A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF REFORMIST AND TRADITIONALIST CONCEPTIONS OF THE OBJECTIVES OF SHARĪ‘A by OMERTASGETIREN (Under the Direction of Alan Godlas) ABSTRACT A comparison of the ideas of the reformist Muslim thinkers Khaled Abou El Fadl and Tariq Ramadan with those of the more traditionalist scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi illustrates that, in contrast to what is generally assumed, there is substantial common ground between these reformist and traditionalist positions in four areas; human rights and democracy, women's rights, jihād and peace, and dialogue and collaboration. This consensus among these Muslim intellectuals on these important issues has arisen because they share a theory of interpretation that necessitates the utilization of and reliance upon "objectives of Sharī‘a" (maqāṣid al- sharī‘a) to adjudicate between conflicting points of view. Since these thinkers espouse this methodology of jurisprudence and do not differ substantially concerning their views of the foundational principles of Islam, it becomes possible for them to propound similar ideas regarding the four areas mentioned above. The Message of the Majestic Quran Summary of Juz 11 Surat al-Tawba continued The goodness of the faithful Whilst Surat al-Tawba exposes the wicked nature of the hypocrites, it honoured the true believers as Allah’s property, “Repentant, worshippers, praise Allah, fast, bow, prostrate, enjoin good, forbid evil, and keep to the boundaries of Allah” (112). The loyal and dedicated companions are praised, “Allah is well pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him and He has prepared for them gardens with running streams where they will live forever; that is the greatest victory” (100). The story of the three sincere Muslims who remained behind during the campaign of Tabuk. When the Prophet returned from Tabuk, he reprimanded them and no one was to speak to them for forty days. But eventually, they were forgiven. The surah takes its name, Al-Tawba, from Allah’s acceptance of their repentance. After congratulating the true Muslims on what they have achieved, the surah urges them to take the education of religion seriously: “A group from each community should stay behind to thoroughly understand the religion and warn their people when they return to them, so they shall be mindful (122).” One cannot fail to notice a striking contrast between the opening passage of the surah and its ending. • Notes on Surah of Yusuf (Joseph)1 Haj Dr
Notes on Surah of Yusuf (Joseph)1 Haj Dr. Noor-Ali Tabandeh In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful Introduction At first that I began to study the Quran and mystical and religious books, my intention was solely to obtain a greater awareness and knowledge of my religious beliefs and matters, and I often took notes of the aforesaid subjects for my personal use. Therefore, these notes did not have a proper order and coherence. Nonetheless, now that this tariqa responsibility has been laid upon me, I am responsible to provide well-ordered answers to the questions asked from me, related to mystical issues. In addition, since in responding to each question, I generally explain all the matters related to that subject, they may not be of a proper order because I consecutively express all the issues. Thus, I hope the audience would organize the stated materials in their mind as is the best. In addition, sometimes during my thoughts and studies, I noticed things that others may have not remarked them or they been attended less frequently. In the case of Moses (AS), the Quran says that God inspired Moses’s mother: “…Suckle him; but when you fear for him (from the agents of the pharaoh), cast him into the river2”. Most of people have not noticed the fact that while it was certain that the Pharaoh had already ordered to kill all the children, but, God did not straightaway say to cast him into the river. I was thinking what God required us to understand from this term, until I realized maybe he has asked us to conclude that the fear of an incident should not make us to change the common practice and convention of customs, and here, God said to the mother of Moses (AS) that if you were then afraid, cast him into the river.

TranscUlturAl, vol. 12.2 (2020), 3-18. http://ejournals.library.ualberta.ca/index.php/TC Application of Eugene Nida’s Theory of Translation to the English translation of Surah Ash-Shams1 Omar Osman Jabak King Saud University 1. Introduction For Muslims, and many other people following other religions, the Holy Qur’an is the last sacred book revealed by Allah, the Almighty, to Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) through Angel Jibril (Gabriel) (Kelen; Jones). Therefore, it is widely believed that Allah’s message to humanity is preserved in this holy book (Saeed). The Holy Qur’an is the latest version of Allah’s message to human beings: “And it was not [possible] for this Qur’an to be produced by other than Allah, but [it is] a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of the [former] Scripture, about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds” ( 276)2, and Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) is Allah’s last messenger to human beings. “Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing” (586). As non-Arab Muslims outnumber Arab Muslims, there has been a pressing need to read the Holy Qur’an in the native languages of these non- Arab Muslims. Therefore, numerous translations of the meanings of the Holy Qur’an have appeared in many languages. The earliest translations of the Holy Qur'an presumably date back to the 16th century (Saab cited in Al-Salem), and these were produced by religious missionaries and not professional translators.
