Carlo PIOLA CASELLI Il vero ruolo di Bartolomea Orsini a Bracciano Donne del Lago Sabatino Quaderno 1 2016 PREFAZIONE Il ruolo della donna nella società nei secoli è argomento arduo quanto sublime. Nel passato, come nel presente, si sono sempre distinte donne che hanno avuto un ruolo di spicco nella società del loro tempo, oppure sono protagoniste di episodi rimasti noti nel tempo: Hatshepsut, Nefertari, Ipazia, Zenobia, Cleopatra, fino a giungere a donne dei nostri tempi, come le madri fondatrici dell’Europa Unita e le donne insignite del premio Nobel per la Pace. Scavando nella storia se ne trovano molte altre, protagoniste di note battaglie, ma sottoposte a discriminazioni, o distrazioni, storiche. Di sicuro meno eclatanti, ma significative per le vicende dei luoghi e, si sa, le piccole cose contano e i piccoli episodi compongono insieme la grandiosità della storia. Bartolomea sembra proprio una di queste. Ci ha lasciato poche tracce di sé, alcuni cronisti del suo tempo la descrivono come donna forte, fu lei, infatti, insieme al marito Bartolomeo d’Alviano, ad evitare che Bracciano cadesse nelle mani di Alessandro VI, Rodrigo Borgia. Fu una dura battaglia iniziata nel dicembre 1496 e terminata nel gennaio 1497. Di sicuro, lei non amava la guerra, amava il suo paese e fece di tutto per proteggerlo seguendo quegli ideali che inducono ciascuno di noi a combattere difronte alle difficoltà, ma a distinguerla da molti è il coraggio a non arrendersi, la temerarietà, la tenacia e la lucidità. Sono onorata di ricevere questo dono da Carlo Piola Caselli al quale esprimo profonda gratitudine e devozione per aver riportato in vita la memoria di Bartolomea, gentildonna guerriera, che con la mente e il cuore difese Bracciano dalla sete di vendetta di un pontefice furibondo per non essere riuscito a soddisfare totalmente le sue pretese. -

journal of jesuit studies 6 (2019) 213-248 brill.com/jjs Andrea Pozzo and the Jesuit “Theatres” of the Seventeenth Century Andrew Horn University of Edinburgh, School of History of Art [email protected] Abstract Considered within the context of Jesuit theatre and liturgy, and within the broader culture of spectacle and ritual in the era of Counter-Reform, the works of art and ar- chitecture commissioned by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century can be read as “the- atres” of religious performance. This concept is given an ideal case study in the work of Jesuit artist Andrea Pozzo (1642–1709). In this essay I present Pozzo’s work within the context of ritual and prayer for which it was produced, focusing on two of his religious scenographies and two of his lesser-known painting projects. As I consider their use of allegory, emblems and symbols, visual narratives, spatial illusions, and architecture, I argue that both the scenographies and the permanent church decorations achieve persuasion through the engagement of the observer as a performer in a ritual involving both internal and external performance. En este artículo se pretende desmenuzar los elementos de su santidad, de acuerdo con la imagen de obispo santo contrarreformista que ofrece buena parte de la historiografía, analizando el proceso mediante el cual se construye dicha imagen. Diversos especialistas se han interesado en los mecanismos de una canonización que se realizó con relativa rapidez: el cardenal y arzobispo de Milán falleció el 3 de noviembre de 1584, y fue elevado a la gloria de los altares en julio de 1610. Sin embargo, aún falta un cuadro capaz de recomponer en conjunto las numerosas y dispersas teselas que la hagiografía, en primer lugar, y la historiografía, en segundo lugar, han recogido. El mosaico creado en este estudio muestra cómo hay numerosos elementos disonantes con respecto a la tradición hagiográfica, y a la historiografía, que más recientemente se ha ocupado de la santidad borromaica en su parte puramente censitaria e inquisitorial. De este nuevo análisis de su proceso de canonización se desprende en especial una estratificación de los distintos problemas y tensiones que se sucedieron en el camino, tanto en los círculos eclesiásticos como en los laicos. -

FONTI PER LA STORIA DI MILANO NEI CODICI DEL FONDO TROTTI a cura di Angelo Colombo Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Milano 2014 “Tra i fondi manoscritti di acquisizione più recente, la Biblioteca Ambrosiana annovera, dall’anno 1907, una raccolta di 443 codici comunemente nota come Fondo Trotti. Tale raccolta era nata, all’inizio del XIX secolo, dalla scissione della Biblioteca della famiglia Trivulzio in due biblioteche parallele: quelle – per intenderci – che, dopo ulteriore evoluzione, sarebbero giunte a noi, nella loro parte più consistente, l’una come Biblioteca Trivulziana presso il Castello Sforzesco di Milano e l’altra appunto come Fondo Trotti della Biblioteca Ambrosiana”.1 Il fondo, acquisito nel 1907, fu inventariato da Maurizio Cogliati nel 1969.2 I dati catalografici del Cogliati, verificati direttamente sui codici e opportunamente integrati, sono stati ora inseriti nel Catalogo Unico della Biblioteca Ambrosiana.3 Per una presentazione del Fondo, soprattutto in ordine alla sua formazione, si rimanda al volume di Seregni 4 e allo studio di Pasini 5, dove è indicata la principale bibliografia di riferimento. In questa sede mi limito a segnalare la notevole connotazione ‘milanese’ del fondo: su 443 codici, ben 130 riguardano Milano, la sua storia, i suoi ordinamenti, i suoi personaggi.
