  • Bible Christian Chapels in Cornwall 1901 Compiled by Colin C Short 2016
Bible Christian Chapels in Cornwall 1901 Compiled by Colin C Short 2016 The following tables list 97% (the figure is explained below) of the Bible Christian Chapels and Preaching Places in Cornwall and the Devon border Circuits in 1901. The Devon Circuits are included to cover cross-border chapels and are listed in their entirety, for completeness. The source of the Chapel names is the Cash Account returns listed in the Annual Report of the Bible Christian Home and Foreign Missionary Society for the year ending July 1901 pp18-32. This lists all the Chapels and Preaching Places by District and then by Circuit. The Bible Christians were extremely fond of naming their Chapels with Biblical names, not all of which appear in the Cash Account. The number of Chapels and Preaching Places in each Circuit is tabulated in the annual Minutes of Conference for 1901, pp19-20. Here those numbers are indicated as « c & p », where c is the number of Chapels and p the number of Preaching Places. Occasionally the number of names found does not equal c+p and that is indicated in the tables below as « [One missing] » which appears for every missing name in a Circuit. There are only 8 such entries in all the Circuits listed, hence the 97% statistic. Not all the discrepancies are due to a missing Preaching Place. In one case, one more name is given than c+p. There are two lists. The first is by Circuit name within each Bible Christian District, as it occurs in the Cash Account.
