Brooklyn Transit Primary Source Packet
BROOKLYN TRANSIT PRIMARY SOURCE PACKET Student Name 1 2 INTRODUCTORY READING "New York City Transit - History and Chronology." Mta.info. Metropolitan Transit Authority. Web. 28 Dec. 2015. Adaptation In the early stages of the development of public transportation systems in New York City, all operations were run by private companies. Abraham Brower established New York City's first public transportation route in 1827, a 12-seat stagecoach that ran along Broadway in Manhattan from the Battery to Bleecker Street. By 1831, Brower had added the omnibus to his fleet. The next year, John Mason organized the New York and Harlem Railroad, a street railway that used horse-drawn cars with metal wheels and ran on a metal track. By 1855, 593 omnibuses traveled on 27 Manhattan routes and horse-drawn cars ran on street railways on Third, Fourth, Sixth, and Eighth Avenues. Toward the end of the 19th century, electricity allowed for the development of electric trolley cars, which soon replaced horses. Trolley bus lines, also called trackless trolley coaches, used overhead lines for power. Staten Island was the first borough outside Manhattan to receive these electric trolley cars in the 1920s, and then finally Brooklyn joined the fun in 1930. By 1960, however, motor buses completely replaced New York City public transit trolley cars and trolley buses. The city's first regular elevated railway (el) service began on February 14, 1870. The El ran along Greenwich Street and Ninth Avenue in Manhattan. Elevated train service dominated rapid transit for the next few decades. On September 24, 1883, a Brooklyn Bridge cable-powered railway opened between Park Row in Manhattan and Sands Street in Brooklyn, carrying passengers over the bridge and back. -

Sažetak Gradovi Hamburg, Rennes, Lausanne i Liverpool su europski gradovi sa različitim sustavom podzemne željeznice čiji razvoj odgovara ekonomskoj situaciji gradskih središta. Trenutno stanje pojedinih podzemno željeznićkih sustava i njihova primjenjena tehnologija uvelike odražava stanje razvoja javnog gradskog prijevoza i mreže javnog gradskog prometa. Summary Cities Hamburg, Rennes, Lausanne and Liverpool are european cities with different metro system by wich development reflects economic situation of city areas. -
Taking a Safe Train Ride Home
TCT, Chengdu Metro Line 3 Taking a Safe Train Ride Home Riding on Chengdu Metro Line 3, you can reach various historic sites that are more than one thousand years old. The metro line's mission is to provide convenience for sightseeing and mitigate urban traffic issues. Apart from providing optimized transportation to Chengdu's residents and visitors, Chengdu Metro Line 3 also drives the market expansion of TCT's independently developed communications- based train control (CBTC) technology. AT A GLANCE BUSINESS CHALLENGE SOLUTION RESULT AT A GLANCE CBTC Becomes the Mainstream Technology “With metros taking the lead in adopting the CBTC system, Traffic Control Technology (TCT) is the first and the only high-tech company in China that has independently I believe in the future, high- developed the CBTC signaling system technology. Until recently, all TCT's projects had been limited to Beijing. Now, Chengdu Metro Line 3 has become the first metro line outside Beijing to have adopted TCT's CBTC speed trains, freight trains, technology. For TCT, this is big milestone as their domestic CBTC technology enjoys wider national attention. and other trains will also apply For passengers, the shift from a traditional control system to CBTC means shorter departure intervals between this system.” trains. With the traditional system, only one train at a time could enter a tunnel between stations, but now several trains can run at the same time in a tunnel with a safe distance between them. In terms of the huge traffic congestion, shorter departure intervals significantly increase the transport capacity of metro lines. -

PR RKH Opened Doha Metro May 8, 2019.Pdf
RKH Qitarat, composed of RATP Dev, Keolis and Hamad Group, opened Doha Metro Red Line South On 8 May 2019, RKH Qitarat, the joint venture consisting of RATP Dev, Keolis and Hamad Group 1, opened the first section of the Doha metro to the public. This follows the award in December 2017 by Qatar Rail of a contract to operate and maintain Qatar’s first urban rail transport network for a period of 20 years. The network includes three automated metro lines in Doha, the Qatari capital, and four tram lines located in the city of Lusail. On 8 May 2019, the Doha Metro Red Line South opened to the public. Initial operation includes 13 out of 18 stations of the line, which will connect Al Qassar in the North to Al Wakrah in the South. For this first stage of the launch, service will be ensured from Sunday to Thursday, from 8am to 11pm. It is an important stage for testing the Doha Metro system with passengers, providing an opportunity to evaluate and review the performance in preparation for the full operation of the network in 2020. This major urban project is of crucial importance for the region as 90% of the Qatari population currently live in Doha and its surrounding suburbs (equivalent to 2.6 million people). Qatar wants to make the city of Doha more attractive to visitors and facilitate the daily journeys of the population as the country prepares for the post-fuel extraction era. The Doha metro will be completely automated and driverless, incorporating three lines (Red, Green and Gold) 75km of track and 37 stations. -

While the world population is expected to grow to 8.3 billion by 2030, public transport will remain the backbone of multi-modal mobility services in the future. The future market will have options within multi-modal mobility. As per UITP’s Grow with Public Transport Strategy, almost 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas by 2025. This implies that people will want and need to make more journeys. Urban Mobility: Think Big Act Smart is the slogan of 2016 MENA Transport Congress & exhibition. This slogan is selected to ensure that we liberate the cities of the future from the environmental, economic and social consequences of traffic congestion. The congress program will attract governments, city authorities and transport professionals from different part of the world in order to share knowledge and experience. MENA Transport Congress & Exhibition & National Association of Public Transport has joint ventured to stage school transport conference together, thus enhancing the program. The public transport authorities of the region are also keen and investing in school transport operation projects like Roads and Transports Authority (RTA) who has recently established a school transport department and ventured into school transport operation aiming at providing safe and smooth transport for all students of different ages.
