uring the Easter holidays my Andy Biggs family went to Cape Town, South Africa. On the way our luggage got lost and we had to wear the same Loch Lomond Dclothes for 2 days. Luckily on Easter Sunday the luggage arrived. My Grandpa bought a Longboat called Pellicano. On the Tuesday we took it for a spin. The other crew were Mom and Dad, my brothers Will and Ollie, my Auntie Sarah and Captain Grandpa. We motored out of the marina and the crew hoisted the sails. I helped the Captain by steering whilst my brother did the navigation using the map of Simon’s Bay as there are rocky reefs. The destination was Boulders Beach to see the African Penguins. It took about half an hour to get there as Noah at the helm with Noah’s Rock in the background the wind was light. The at 34°S sight of rafts of penguins gathering nearby in groups of 25 or so for a morning fishing expedition provided one of the highlights; the other was a chance sailing encounter with hundreds of common dolphins at dawn. These will linger long in the memory. Pellicano returned briefly with my co- owner to Langebaan at Easter and finished 12th in a fleet of 21 in their annual race, and winning the Prix d’Elegance.
