I hope this finds you well. It’s been a tough year and a half but things are finally getting back to normal. This will be the first of many newsletters that will help keep all of us informed and will give us the opportunity to spotlight deserving people in our organization. With the development of the Golden Gloves monthly newsletter, we hope to build a stronger bond and establish networking between the 30 franchises and many sub-franchises. This month, we are featuring Dean Fay, who operates a gym with the most members in the country. Dean is the Director of the Western New England Golden Gloves, a sub- franchise of the New England Golden Gloves. Please check out his interesting story this month. I am asking all franchises to cooperate and to please share the newsletter with your contacts, as well as to share your email list with us so that we may grow our base. Our first newsletter will reach about 50,000 people and we are hoping to grow this over the next year or so to well over 100,000. I’m proud to say we have a lot of good projects in the works, including a brand new National website with a page for general information for each franchise (thanks to the hard work of John Pacheco Jr. who is the chairman of the Developing and Marketing Committee). The most exciting project in the works which should be a major boost for us is a potential deal for a documentary about the 100 year history of the Golden Gloves of America. This, to me, is huge for us and will help create new fans and will enlighten them on the good works of the Golden Gloves. They will be drawn in with the interesting stories on the Who’s Who of boxing who have participated in the Golden Gloves such as Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Evander Holyfield, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, and countless others. A very special thanks to three young people who volunteered their time to execute this newsletter: Missy Fitzwater of Kansas, Izzy Corbett of Minnesota, and Zordan Holman of Maine. They will also activate our Facebook and Instagram accounts. I hope to see you all in Tulsa for the Tournament of Champions! Also known as Vale Tudo, No Holds Barred (NHB), Cage Fighting, Ultimate Fighting, Pride Fighting, Sougo Kakutogi Focus Various Hardness Full contact Olympic sport No Mixed martial arts (MMA), popularly known as cage fighting or ultimate fighting is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills, from a mixture of other combat sports, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of both striking as well as grappling techniques, both while standing and while on the ground. Such competitions allow fighters of different backgrounds to compete. The roots of modern mixed martial arts can be traced back to various mixed style contests that took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s. The combat sport of Vale Tudo that had developed in Brazil from the 1920s was brought to the United States by the Gracie family in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Professional MMA events had also been held in Japan by Shooto starting back in 1989. In due course the more dangerous Vale Tudo style bouts of the early UFCs were made safer with the implementation of additional rules, leading to the popular regulated form of MMA seen today. Originally promoted as a competition with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations,
