Press statement about 2019-2020 EuroLeague calendar changes On april 8th 2019 ULEB and its member leagues were informed by Euroleague Basketball (ECA) about its calendar changes for the season 2019-2020. On December 19th 2018 all leagues received a "draft calendar" for the 2019-2020 Euroleague season from ECA that served as the base to plan their respective domestic leagues, as it was in previous years. On March 13th 2019 ECA invited all shareholder leagues for a meeting at its offices in Barcelona. At this meeting ULEB and its member leagues requested ECA for better dialogue and transparency in order to be able to collaborate in a positive way, as can be expected with shareholders. No concrete potential calendar changes were addressed at the meeting, except for the information that the final calendar had to be confirmed by the ECA Board on April 3rd 2019. After this meeting nor ULEB, nor its member leagues were consulted in any way regarding the significant modifications. These late and impacting calendar changes, including an earlier start and later end of the EuroLeague regular season and postponing the EuroLeague Final 4 by a week compared to previous seasons, make it extremely difficult for the domestic leagues to schedule their 2019-2020 season. National schedules of most leagues had already been finalized, based on arena availabilities, and had been sent out to the respective clubs. Unfortunately these late changes are another incident in the relationship between ECA and the domestic leagues that damages the interests of the domestic leagues and European basketball. It is ULEB’s conviction that all parties can benefit from an integrated and balanced model where local basketball, European basketball and national team basketball all have their place. ULEB, for the good of basketball, believes in the basic values of the European sport model, based on sporting merits, with an open access pyramid structure. ULEB and its members expect to be consulted by ECA and its co-shareholders for future decisions that impact the interest of basketball in Europe in general and in the national leagues in particular. .

This paper observed 38 games and sixteen variables of standard efficiency during the FIBA EuroBasket Women 2019. Two regression models were obtained, a set of relative percentage and relative rating variables, which are used in the NBA league, where the dependent variable was the number of points scored. The obtained results show that in the first model, the difference between winning and losing teams was made by three variables: true shooting percentage, turnover percentage of inefficiency and efficiency percentage of defensive rebounds, which explain 97.3%, while for the second model, the distinguishing variables was offensive efficiency, explaining for 96.1% of the observed phenomenon. There is a continuity of the obtained results with the previous championship, played in 2017. Of all the technical elements of basketball, it is still the shots made, assists and defensive rebounds that have the most significant impact on the final score in European women’s basketball.

coaches - fundamentals and youth basketball Avoid relaxing by Aíto García Reneses on the court by Sito Alonso Aíto García Reneses was head coach (and also general manager) of Barcelona (Spain) for many years, where his teams won three Division I championships, three Spanish Cups, one King's Cup, two FIBA Europe, and two Korac Cups. He has been head coach of Badalona (Spain) since 2003, where he won one FIBA Europe (2006), one King's Cup (2008) and ULEB Cup (2008). He also was awarded Coach of the Year of the ULEB Cup 2007-08. Sito Alonso started his coaching career in 1987 with the youth teams of Zaragoza (Spain); then he was responsible for youth teams at Monzòn, where he also was head coach of the first team (EBA league) from 1999 to 2004. He has been assistant coach of Badalona since 2006, where his teams won FIBA Europe (2006), King's Cup (2008), and the ULEB Cup (2008). Twenty years ago, many people criticized player rotations. The possible explanation was that people were not used to seeing rotations on the court and they thought that many advantages were lost, such as the possibility of giving the most minutes to the five best players on the team. Currently, however, all good (and even the not-so-good) teams use rotations. The most important advantage of this is that teams can play at the highest athletic lev- els. When a player is fatigued, he can re- couperate and recover his energy on the bench and not on the court. That said, players still relax on the court.

Tena (Universidad Carlos III)* May, 2008 Abstract- When skilled labour is imported to work in a creative industry, local workers may benefit, in terms of their own level of skill, through contact with new techniques and practices. European basketball offers an opportunity to investigate the reality of this general claim. For a panel of 47 European countries observed over more than twenty years, we model probability of qualification for, and subsequent performance in, Olympic Tournaments and World and European Championships. We demonstrate that an increase in the number of foreigners in a domestic league tends to generate a subsequent improvement in the performance of the national team (which has to be comprised only of local players). Game Performance Determining Sports Results During 2003–2016 Matches by Kazimierz Mikołajec1, Damian Banyś1, Justyna Żurowska-Cegielska1, Marek Zawartka3, Karol Gryko2 The main aim of this study was to establish game-related statistics that determined sport results in the Basketball EuroLeague between 2003 and 2016. The study encompasses matches played by 10 teams during 13 consecutive seasons of the EuroLeague. Twenty-two offensive and defensive game related variables were registered. Calculations were performed to establish which of the variables determined performance in the Basketball EuroLeague matches within the analysed period. Based on a number of mathematical and statistical analyses, the elements of play that had the highest effect on sports success were selected. The following determinants displayed the most significant correlations with sport results in the EuroLeague within the analysed period: two-point shots made (2PT-made), two- point shot attempts (2PT-attempts), three-point shots made (3PT-made), one-point shots made (1PT-made), one-point shot attempts (1PT-attempts), assists, fouls and field goals made. The game outcome in basketball is influenced by many variables which may not always be significant in a given match. However, the continuous effort to maintain these variables at the highest possible level is advantageous over less-organised teams.
