  • Tomas Van Den Spiegel Re-Elected As ULEB President View Artcile
ULEB Press Release Tomas Van Den Spiegel re-elected as ULEB President At yesterday’s ULEB General Assembly current President Tomas Van Den Spiegel was re- elected for the 2020-2024 term. Tomas Van Den Spiegel: “I am happy to be re-elected and thank all member leagues for their confidence. I am looking forward to representing each one of them again for the coming 4 years. It is important to me to maintain the current momentum and togetherness that we have established between all members during my first term. This has culminated amongst others in the competition complaint that was recently filed to the European Commission versus Euroleague. Next to protecting the European sports model, it is essential that we as domestic leagues stand our ground and protect national league basketball in general. Furthermore I will look to build on the improved international relations that have allowed ULEB to be actively involved in discussions and decision making on a number of levels, always looking to protect our members’ interests. As for the future of ULEB we are aiming to optimize the internal functioning of the organization with the installment of a strategic committee that will be exploring ULEB expansion and partnership development amongst other things.” About ULEB: ULEB, the association of the European Basketball Leagues, was founded in 1992 and aims to develop and to defend the rights of the European domestic leagues and their clubs. ULEB members today include ACB (Spain), LNB (France), BBL (Germany), HEBA (Greece), PBL (Belgium), PLK (Poland), DBL (Netherlands), Legabasket (Italy), VTB United League, LKL (Lithuania), BSL (Israel).

  • Difference-Based Analysis of the Impact of Observed Game Parameters on the Final Score at the FIBA Eurobasket Women 2019
Original Article Difference-based analysis of the impact of observed game parameters on the final score at the FIBA Eurobasket Women 2019 SLOBODAN SIMOVIĆ1 , JASMIN KOMIĆ2, BOJAN GUZINA1, ZORAN PAJIĆ3, TAMARA KARALIĆ1, GORAN PAŠIĆ1 1Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2Faculty of Economy, University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina 3Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, University of Belgrade, Serbia ABSTRACT Evaluation in women's basketball is keeping up with developments in evaluation in men’s basketball, and although the number of studies in women's basketball has seen a positive trend in the past decade, it is still at a low level. This paper observed 38 games and sixteen variables of standard efficiency during the FIBA EuroBasket Women 2019. Two regression models were obtained, a set of relative percentage and relative rating variables, which are used in the NBA league, where the dependent variable was the number of points scored. The obtained results show that in the first model, the difference between winning and losing teams was made by three variables: true shooting percentage, turnover percentage of inefficiency and efficiency percentage of defensive rebounds, which explain 97.3%, while for the second model, the distinguishing variables was offensive efficiency, explaining for 96.1% of the observed phenomenon. There is a continuity of the obtained results with the previous championship, played in 2017. Of all the technical elements of basketball, it is still the shots made, assists and defensive rebounds that have the most significant impact on the final score in European women’s basketball.

  • Avoid Relaxing FIBA
coaches - fundamentals and youth basketball Avoid relaxing by Aíto García Reneses on the court by Sito Alonso Aíto García Reneses was head coach (and also general manager) of Barcelona (Spain) for many years, where his teams won three Division I championships, three Spanish Cups, one King's Cup, two FIBA Europe, and two Korac Cups. He has been head coach of Badalona (Spain) since 2003, where he won one FIBA Europe (2006), one King's Cup (2008) and ULEB Cup (2008). He also was awarded Coach of the Year of the ULEB Cup 2007-08. Sito Alonso started his coaching career in 1987 with the youth teams of Zaragoza (Spain); then he was responsible for youth teams at Monzòn, where he also was head coach of the first team (EBA league) from 1999 to 2004. He has been assistant coach of Badalona since 2006, where his teams won FIBA Europe (2006), King's Cup (2008), and the ULEB Cup (2008). Twenty years ago, many people criticized player rotations. The possible explanation was that people were not used to seeing rotations on the court and they thought that many advantages were lost, such as the possibility of giving the most minutes to the five best players on the team. Currently, however, all good (and even the not-so-good) teams use rotations. The most important advantage of this is that teams can play at the highest athletic lev- els. When a player is fatigued, he can re- couperate and recover his energy on the bench and not on the court. That said, players still relax on the court.

  • Impact of Importing Foreign Talent on Performance Levels of Local Co-Workers
IMPACT OF IMPORTING FOREIGN TALENT ON PERFORMANCE LEVELS OF LOCAL CO-WORKERS by J. Alvarez (Universidad Complutense), D. Forrest (University of Salford), I. Sanz (Universidad Complutense), and J. D. Tena (Universidad Carlos III)* May, 2008 Abstract- When skilled labour is imported to work in a creative industry, local workers may benefit, in terms of their own level of skill, through contact with new techniques and practices. European basketball offers an opportunity to investigate the reality of this general claim. For a panel of 47 European countries observed over more than twenty years, we model probability of qualification for, and subsequent performance in, Olympic Tournaments and World and European Championships. We demonstrate that an increase in the number of foreigners in a domestic league tends to generate a subsequent improvement in the performance of the national team (which has to be comprised only of local players). Given that foreign players have such a beneficial impact, we develop a theoretical framework for how a regulator of the sports labour market might take this into account. key words: basketball, migration, spillovers. * We acknowledge financial support from the Consejo Superior de Deportes of Spain. IMPACT OF IMPORTING FOREIGN TALENT ON PERFORMANCE LEVELS OF LOCAL CO-WORKERS 1. Motivation In an era of globalisation of labour markets there are few developed countries where the issue of whether immigration brings net benefits to the host economy does not lie at the heart of political debate. In this paper we focus on skilled immigrants. On the one hand, they may boost national output but, on the other, labour unions argue that they depress wages and/ or reduce employment for their members.
