CREDITS 5 he ULEB Cup starts its sixth hoping to offer fans the highest quality ba- sketball and with the conviction of having consolidated the competition in a high T sporting level, following close behind Euroleague Basketball. MONBILE This year we have set ourselves new challenges by modifying some crucial aspects of the competition with the aim of improving its competitiveness and quality. For the first time in ULEB Cup history we will have 54 teams participating. The expansion of the competition has been necessary due to the high number of requests to participate in the ULEB Cup competition received from clubs as well as our desire to maintain the high competitiveness and quality of the participating teams. I believe that we have achieved both goals. We have 54 teams from 26 different countries, including 7 countries which are completely new to the ULEB Cup competition: , Czech Republic, Estonia, Montenegro, , and Romania. We wish them all a very warm welcome. Among the teams we can find 11 current domestic leagues champions, 3 former Eu- ropean champions and 3 former ULEB Cup champions. Taking all these factors into ac- count I can clearly predict that we will enjoy an amazing ULEB Cup season. I want to specially thank the National Leagues and Clubs which form part of our or- ganisation for the total confidence demonstrated through all these years and I would like to encourage them to keep on working towards the improvement of this great sport. We are obliged to keep working to improve, year by year, the general level of our competitions so that our leagues, teams, fans and media can benefit fully. Welcome to the 2007–2008 ULEB Cup season and good luck to you all.

Eduardo Portela ULEB President

7 fter a long summer we are finally able to welcome all those 54 teams from 26 countries who will participating in this sixth edition of ULEB Cup, some old and A some new. This season ULEB Cup is proud to have the largest number of parti- cipating teams ever in the history of the competition.

This expansion is a significant step towards making our commitment of bringing the best of European basketball to fans across the globe more tangible. During the season fans will find a changed competition format to be able to accommodate the larger num- ber of teams that will culminate in an exciting Final Eight in Turin, Italy in April.

As part of our committed interest in developing the sport of basketball we continue to rely on our broadcast partners, and friends, Eurosport who will be bringing the best of European basketball to the homes of many fans. Every Tuesday fans across the glo- be will have the opportunity to tune into the best basketball.

This year is also a very special year for European club basketball as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. ULEB Cup will be enjoying a tip off ASK Rigas vs PBC Lukoil Academic in an attempt to commemorate the same final fifty years ago. This tip off will be the begin- ning of a season where teams and leagues will demonstrate their passion for basketball and their commitment in improving the competition on a European scale. Without this commitment and hard work from the participating teams, coaches, leagues, individuals in the basketball world, and of course FIBA as founder of continental basketball, ULEB Cup would not be what it is today, a highly competitive and fun championship.

I would like to thank all teams and leagues who are participating in this sixth edition. I would like to wish them all the best of luck in the competition. I would also like to thank fans for their continued support in making this competition exciting and of the hi- ghest quality.
