21 Thornsett Road, Bromley. Sitting room: Atwood greeted by wife Julie (Juliet Ann Daniels). George Daniels highlights Breguet's life born in Switzerland moving to Paris, France aged 15. Breguet's workers regarded as artists, he had ability to extract the best work from them. Respect between English and French makers: Breguet and John Arnold had reciprocal arrangements for both their sons. Breguet had 100 people working for him during his life time, many became celebrated makers in their own right. Discussions include: Breguet's marine chronometers, a luxury item in France; the carriage clock was invention by Breguet and Daniels shows a highly complex three-wheel Skeleton Clock Breguet replica he made with the full agreement and approval of Breguet, Paris; Breguet wanting to prove himself the supreme master produces the Sympathetique Table Clock incorporating pocket watch - the Clock itself winds and adjusts the pocket watch. Breguet's products prove to be the most desirable collectables with ever increasing values. Unique horologist and great inspiration to Daniels.

21 Thornsett Road, Bromley. Discussing the watch Daniels will be making for Atwood. The watch with two wheel trains and Independent Double-Wheel Escapement (Daniels' own escapement) [watch completed 1976].

The look is important and this watch includes innovations in precision time-keeping not done before. Design evolves as it is produced without comprehensive precision drawings. This will be a self-starting watch unlike any self-starting watch. The watch is key-wound to provide the owner with the job of opening the watch to wind it. Daniels says: 'If the owner has not the peace of mind to do this, he does not deserve the watch'.

Filming continues with views of the workshop, demonstrating wheel cutting, pantograph trepanning from brass sheet, engine turning on Rose engine, demonstrating advantages of in- house capability of producing the entire watch. Abrupt ending without credits

Please see staff Sitting room, 21 Thornsett Road, Bromley: Daniels describes three-wheel Breguet clock which he took 16 weeks to make; influence of Breguet on him and how the clock he made expresses Breguet's mechanical ingenuity and aesthetics. Workshop: Daniels discusses the state of British horology and the desire for a new escapement which eliminates the need for oil and an improvement of the lever escapement dating from 18th century. 'A challenge to keep the electronic watch at bay'. Swiss manufacturers are interested in his idea and he needs their assistance for large-scale production. Talks about obsession in work, need for frequency in use of tools, he works for the result not for pleasure. Aims to improve each watch, and reach an aesthetic quality - 'few understand them but everyone is interested'. Talks about the action of watch remarking accuracy should be consistently half a second a day. Swiss go for 8 seconds a day. Describes three of his watches: all key wound with close up views.

Workshop: views on state of British horology and lack of pursuit in inventions. Daniels wants to design a new oil-less escapement to hold the electronic watch at bay. Experiments for 4-5 years, now interest from Switzerland. 'Work is something of an obsession. Interest not so much in doing the work as seeing it done'. His principle aims are making improvements and aesthetic qualities. Accuracy is an honour of design and craftsmanship. The watch is working to a consistency of half a second a day.
