Jackson Community Recycling was founded in 1990. The Recycling Center was built in 1995 and the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center in 1999. On July 1, 2009, Jackson Community Recycling became the Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling (ISWR) division of Teton County under the county Engineering Department. This division is managed by county staff, with the support of an Advisory Board. The responsibilities of ISWR include day-to-day operations of the Recycling Center, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, and the Teton County Trash Transfer Station, including composting. ISWR Division Chief Heather Overholser states, “As a division of the county, our organi- zation is able to make better, more holistic decisions regarding solid and diversion in Teton County. This change supports more efficient planning and management of solid waste services in Teton County, with Jackson Community Recycling, a program of ISWR, continuing to offer all of its highly successful recycling and outreach programs. Jackson Community Recycling is still able to raise money from individuals, businesses and foundations, including through Old Bill’s Fun Run.
