Hardiman 2005 ABSTRACT This dissertation marks the first synthetic and contextual analysis of domestic sculpture for the whole of the Hellenistic period (323 BCE – 31 BCE). Prior to this study, Hellenistic domestic sculpture had been examined from a broadly literary perspective or had been the focus of smaller regional or site-specific studies. Rather than taking any one approach, this dissertation examines both the literary testimonia and the material record in order to develop as full a picture as possible for the location, function and meaning(s) of these pieces. The study begins with a reconsideration of the literary evidence. The testimonia deal chiefly with the residences of the Hellenistic kings and their conspicuous displays of wealth in the most public rooms in the home, namely courtyards and dining rooms. Following this, the material evidence from the Greek mainland and Asia Minor is considered. The general evidence supports the literary testimonia’s location for these sculptures. In addition, several individual examples offer insights into the sophistication of domestic decorative programs among the Greeks, something usually associated with the Romans. -

MODALITES DES VISITES TACTILES Les visites tactiles s’organisent autour des œuvres originales. Sont exclues les œuvres en plâtre et céramique ainsi que les meubles et les maquettes d’architecture. Merci d’ôter les bijoux pour effectuer la visite. Le musée se répartit en 4 niveaux. Un ascenseur et un escalier permettent la circulation dans ces différents niveaux. Les toilettes sont situées au sous-sol. REZ-DE-CHAUSSÉE La sculpture monumentale Une place de choix est dédiée aux sculpteurs – 32 ateliers à Boulogne-Billancourt entre 1920 et 1940 – qui ont participé aux grandes expositions et aux grands décors de l’entre- deux-guerres : Paul Landowski, Alfred Janniot, Robert Wlérick, Joseph Bernard, Charles Despiau, Jan et Joël Martel... Raymond SUBES et Jean MAYODON, Grilles d’intérieur, vers 1942, fer forgé et céramique émaillée Auteur d’une œuvre abondante, Raymond Subes sait s’adapter au style en vogue ce qui lui permet de rester d’actualité des années 20 à 1960. Un grand nombre de commandes prestigieuses viennent récompenser son talent (grilles du Musée des Colonies, nombreuses ferronneries pour les paquebots, de quarante-deux épées d’académiciens...). Ici, les grilles ajourées en fer forgé noir, composées d'entrelacs, lignes courbes élégantes ; reçoivent en leurs centres un médaillon en forme d'amande, œuvres du céramiste Jean Mayodon. -

Enslaved man who secured his freedom and that of his family members Derived from DVB entry: http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/dvb/bio.asp?b=Driggus_Emanuel Emanuel Driggus (fl. 1645–1685), an enslaved man who secured freedom for himself and several members of his family exemplified the possibilities and the limitations that free blacks encountered in seventeenth‐century Virginia. His name appears in the records of Northampton County between 1645 and 1685. He might have been the Emanuel mentioned in 1640 as a runaway. The date and place of his birth are not known, nor are the date and circumstances of his arrival in Virginia. His name, possibly a corruption of a Portuguese surname occasionally spelled Rodriggus or Roddriggues, suggests that he was either from Africa (perhaps Angola) or from one of the Caribbean islands served by Portuguese slave traders. His first name was also sometimes spelled Manuell. Driggus's Iberian name and the aptitude that he displayed maneuvering within the Virginia legal system suggest that he grew up in the ebb and flow of people, goods, and cultures around the Atlantic littoral and that he learned to navigate to his own advantage. 2. The Anchorage Museum’s Patricia B. Wolf Solo Exhibition Series supports the work and development of Alaska artists, highlighting new bodies of work by individual artists. Alaska artists are invited to submit applications to a selection committee comprised of museum staff and art professionals. These solo art exhibitions will be scheduled starting in 2017. The Anchorage Museum is currently accepting proposals from Alaska residents and all tribally enrolled Alaska Natives. Works in all media will be considered. The Anchorage Museum is also accepting curatorial and group proposals featuring more than one artist. These proposals will not be part of the Patricia B. Wolf exhibition series but will be brought before the museum’s Exhibition Review Committee for consideration. Applicants for group and curatorial proposals do not need to be from Alaska, but successful proposals will support the museum’s mission to connect people, expand perspectives and encourage global dialogue about the North and its distinct environment.
