Awards and Recognition 2011- 2012 Civil Engineering 2012 Graduate Noah M. Miller is commissioned into the US Marine Corps: May 4, 2012 Noah M. Miller was commissioned into the Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant on 4 May 2012 in a ceremony at Summerall Chapel at The Citadel. Cadet Miller was the only 2012 Civil Engineering graduate who took a Marine Corps commission. He was also the only Civil Engineering senior who successfully completed The Citadel Honors Program this year. 2nd Lt. Miller was joined at his commissioning ceremony by Colonel Charles O. Skipper, USMC (Ret), 71’. Dr. Skipper is a Visiting Professor in the School of Engineering and the only Marine Corps faculty member at The Citadel. Dr. Skipper was also the only School of Engineering faculty member to teach an Honors Course this year. School of Engineering Honors Graduate Program Students at Graduation Dinner: May 3, 2012 The School of Engineering (SOE) hosted a Graduation Dinner on 3 May, 2012 for Graduate Program students who were completing work for their Masters of Science in Project Management (MSPM), Technical Project Management (TPM) Certificate, or Systems Engineering Management (SEM) Certificate. The dinner was held at the Regimental Commander’s Riverview Room in Coward Hall. The Graduation Speaker was Mr. S. Richard Scalco of the National Security Agency and a member of the SOE Cyber Advisory Committee. This was the SOE’s second graduating class of Master’s Degree students, and 15 students were recognized. The dinner also honored our first 3 graduates of the new Systems Engineering Management Certificate program. Pictured below is Meredith Snyder, the first student to complete the SEM Certificate, being congratulated by Ron Welch, Dean of the SOE. A total of 15 students completed their TPM Certificate. Graduating TPM Students were required to display a poster presentation of their capstone project and explain their project management process and results to dinner attendees. Shown below is new graduate Geoffrey Reid, explaining his project to some interested attendees. Department of Electrical Engineering Awards Spring 2012 The Navy League Sword in Honor of Captain H. Carl Josephson and Family: C/LT Andrew G. Fender Peter Galliard Memorial Award: C/LT Matthew R. Fann Cadet Matthew Fann was selected by the faculty as the 2012 Peter Gaillard Award recipient. The Peter Gaillard Memorial Award annually recognizes an outstanding electrical and computer engineering cadet senior on the basis of scholastic attainment, leadership, and participation in extracurricular activities. It is in memory of an outstanding 1948 graduate of The Citadel's Electrical Engineering Department. The Cadet Medal of Valor: C/LT Denzel O. Grant Cadet ECE Senior Denzel Grant received the Cadet Medal of Valor Award at the 2012 Awards Convocation on Thursday, April 29th, in recognition of his role in saving the life of a stabbing victim in downtown Charleston. Charles Thurston Razor Memorial Award: OC Gordon Finley Since 1960, the Charles Thurston Razor Award annually recognizes an outstanding electrical and computer engineering senior on the basis of scholastic achievement, and ability and willingness to help others. It is in memory of The Citadel's first Electrical Engineering Department Head. Deardorff, along with nearly 100 members of the Airlift Wing, returned from deployment the first week of July. This deployment marked the beginning of a new era for the 103rd Airlift Wing; it was the first time the unit had ever deployed the C-130H Hercules overseas as part of its new tactical airlift mission. The Airmen deployed to multiple locations in Southwest Asia and supported Expeditionary Combat Support operations that included tactical airlift, maintenance, security and logistics support. Over the next two days, you will hear from prominent speakers and panelists on this year’s theme, Resilience in a Changing World. You will also participate in celebrating two major milestones in Citadel history: the 50th Anniversary of African Ameri- cans and the 20th Anniversary of Women in the South Caro- lina Corps of Cadets. Make the most of this opportunity to reflect on contemporary leadership topics as you interact with fellow student delegates, members of the Corps of Cadets, faculty, staff, Citadel alumni, and the Charleston community.
