The interview took place at Wilson's home in Valatie, New York, and was conducted by Jonathan Katz for the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. This transcript has been lightly edited for readability by the Archives of American Art. The reader should bear in mind that they are reading a transcript of spoken, rather than written, prose. Interview ANN WILSON: [In progress] "—happened as if it didn't come out of himself and his fixation but merged. It came to itself and is for this moment without him or her, not brought about by him or her but is itself and in this sudden seeing of itself, we make the final choice. What if it has come to be without external to us and what we read it to be then and heighten it toward that reading? If we were to leave it alone at this point of itself, our eyes aging would no longer be able to see it. External and forget the internal ordering that brought it about and without the final decision of what that ordering was about and our emphasis of it, other eyes would miss the chosen point and feel the lack of emphasis. -
"Nay"; the Story of John T. Bernard's Quarrel with American Foreign

[Wib Ilia m B.] Bankhead looked at me with murder in his eyes refusing to recognize me. I shouted again, 'Mr. Speaker, I object.' Still he refused to recognize. THE Again I objected and again four times." ^ By thus confronting the formidable presiding of ficer on January 6, 1937, Congressman John Toussaint Bernard of the Eighth District of northeastern Minne ONE MAN sota began his first and only term in the United States House of Representatives. Although he knew this out burst was considered unbecoming to a freshman con gressman, Bernard held convictions that would not WHO allow him to accept the attempt of the speaker of the House to hurry through the unanimous-consent reso lution in question. That resolution would have per mitted the measure on the ffoor — a "neutrality" VOTED measure to prohibit the sale of munitions to either the republican Loyalist or the challenging rebel Fas cist factions in the civil war that had been ravaging Spain for the six months since July, 1936 — to be "NAY" considered and voted upon without first being sub mitted to committee for debate. Later on the same day, January 6, Bernard further jeopardized his career by voting against the arms em bargo resolution. It had been urgently forwarded to Congress by President Franklin D. Rooseveff, passed The Story of unanimously by the Senate, and, despite Bernard's opposition, was to pass 431 votes to 1 in the House. -

The Jamaica Plain-based ensemble will present its introductory concert in the Gardner’s Tapestry Room on Saturday, December 5th as part of the museum’s annual Artful Holidays at the Gardner evening event in celebration of the season. Guide to Oral History Collections in Missouri. Compiled and Edited by David E. Richards Special Collections & Archives Department Duane G. Meyer Library Missouri State University Springfield, Missouri Last updated: September 16, 2012 This guide was made possible through a grant from the Richard S. Brownlee Fund from the State Historical Society of Missouri and support from Missouri State University. Introduction Missouri has a wealth of oral history recordings that document the rich and diverse population of the state. Beginning around 1976, libraries, archives, individual researchers, and local historical societies initiated oral history projects and began recording interviews on audio cassettes. The efforts continued into the 1980s. By 2000, digital recorders began replacing audio cassettes and collections continued to grow where staff, time, and funding permitted. As with other states, oral history projects were easily started, but transcription and indexing efforts generally lagged behind. Hundreds of recordings existed for dozens of discreet projects, but access to the recordings was lacking or insufficient. Larger institutions had the means to transcribe, index, and catalog their oral history materials, but smaller operations sometimes had limited access to their holdings. Access was mixed, and still is. This guide attempts to aggregate nearly all oral history holdings within the state and provide at least basic, minimal access to holdings from the largest academic repository to the smallest county historical society. The effort to provide a guide to the oral history collections of Missouri started in 2002 with a Brownlee Fund Grant from the State Historical Society of Missouri. That initial grant provided the seed money to create and send out a mail-in survey. -

Six Canonical Projects by Rem Koolhaas
5 Six Canonical Projects by Rem Koolhaas has been part of the international avant-garde since the nineteen-seventies and has been named the Pritzker Rem Koolhaas Architecture Prize for the year 2000. This book, which builds on six canonical projects, traces the discursive practice analyse behind the design methods used by Koolhaas and his office + OMA. It uncovers recurring key themes—such as wall, void, tur montage, trajectory, infrastructure, and shape—that have tek structured this design discourse over the span of Koolhaas’s Essays on the History of Ideas oeuvre. The book moves beyond the six core pieces, as well: It explores how these identified thematic design principles archi manifest in other works by Koolhaas as both practical re- Ingrid Böck applications and further elaborations. In addition to Koolhaas’s individual genius, these textual and material layers are accounted for shaping the very context of his work’s relevance. By comparing the design principles with relevant concepts from the architectural Zeitgeist in which OMA has operated, the study moves beyond its specific subject—Rem Koolhaas—and provides novel insight into the broader history of architectural ideas.
