Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 4, 2014 Devils-Sabres Preview By Nicolino DiBenedetto Associated Press January 4, 2014 The Buffalo Sabres may own the fewest points in the NHL, but they've hardly resembled the league's worst team lately at home. Ryan Miller has had a hand in that success. Miller will likely be in net looking to win a sixth straight home game, as the Sabres face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Buffalo (11-26-4) not only has the worst record in the league, its average of 1.63 goals ranks last - 0.60 behind Minnesota for 29th. The Sabres fell 4-1 at Minnesota on Thursday, losing their 11th straight on the road. "It's just one of those things where when we're bad, we're bad," interim coach Ted Nolan said. They've been very good at home, however, going 5-0-1 in their last six home games. They're averaging 2.75 goals to win four straight there for the first time since a five-game streak from Feb. 19-March 12, 2012. Miller has been superb at home, compiling a 1.34 goals-against average and .962 save percentage while winning his last five games in Buffalo. He last won six straight there from Nov. 13-Dec. 9, 2010. Miller, named to the U.S. Olympic team earlier this week, may have a chance to equal that run since he's 4-1-1 with a 1.60 GAA and a shutout over his last six home meetings with the Devils (17-17-8).

  • Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips Monday, January 21, 2013 Sabres find that winning combination By John Vogl The Buffalo News January 21, 2013 Thomas Vanek got a glimpse of life alongside Cody Hodgson at the end of last season. The two skated together for the final 11 outings, and Vanek put up a point per game with three goals and eight assists. Obviously, he liked the combination. Hodgson’s audition next to the Buffalo Sabres’ most potent scorer deserved an encore, so coach Lindy Ruff began the season Sunday with the center in the middle of Vanek and right wing Jason Pominville. Obviously, Vanek still likes it. Vanek had the best day of his career during a 5-2 victory over Philadelphia, scoring twice and adding three assists as a sellout crowd in First Niagara Center welcomed the NHL back in a rollicking way. “It’s a lot of luck when you get that many points,” said Vanek, who had the best outing by a Buffalo player in five years. “I was fortunate every pass I made went in, and when I scored, I scored. You won’t have many of those nights. You enjoy it, you like the win and you move on.” Vanek can attribute the outing to luck all he wants, but he earned the avalanche of points. He skated hard, controlled pucks, made nice passes and tortured the Flyers and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. “He’s got a lot of special talents, and he used them all,” said Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers, who snapped a 2-2 tie with 5:03 left.
