Contact: Pete Albietz; [email protected] Vice President, Hockey Communications & Team Operations FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2018 DEVILS AGREE TO TERMS WITH RIGHT WING DREW STAFFORD ON A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils agreed to terms with right wing Drew Stafford on a one- year, one-way contract worth $810,000. The announcement was made by Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero. Stafford had been with New Jersey since the start of training camp on a PTO. Stafford, 32, played 59 games with New Jersey last season, scoring eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. He also appeared in two games during the 2018 Stanley Cup ECQF versus Tampa Bay. The Milwaukee, WI native split the 2016-17 season between Winnipeg and Boston, after he was traded to the Bruins by the Jets on March 1, 2017 for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. The 6-2, 215lb. forward spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career with Buffalo (2006-07 through 2014-15). Stafford was traded to Winnipeg from Buffalo on February 11, 2015. A veteran of 784 regular-season NHL games, Stafford has totaled 191 goals and 224 assists for 415 points with 397 penalty minutes. He has six goals and five assists for 11 points in 32 Stanley Cup Playoff contests. The right-handed forward attended University of North Dakota (WCHA) from 2003-06 where he was teammates with Devils’ center Travis Zajac (2004-06) and helped lead North Dakota to a WCHA Championship in 2006. Born on October, 30, 1985, he was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round, 13th overall, in the 2004 NHL Draft. -devils- .

Miller, named to the U.S. Olympic team earlier this week, may have a chance to equal that run since he's 4-1-1 with a 1.60 GAA and a shutout over his last six home meetings with the Devils (17-17-8).

The two skated together for the final 11 outings, and Vanek put up a point per game with three goals and eight assists. Obviously, he liked the combination. Hodgson’s audition next to the Buffalo Sabres’ most potent scorer deserved an encore, so coach Lindy Ruff began the season Sunday with the center in the middle of Vanek and right wing Jason Pominville. Obviously, Vanek still likes it. Vanek had the best day of his career during a 5-2 victory over Philadelphia, scoring twice and adding three assists as a sellout crowd in First Niagara Center welcomed the NHL back in a rollicking way. “It’s a lot of luck when you get that many points,” said Vanek, who had the best outing by a Buffalo player in five years. “I was fortunate every pass I made went in, and when I scored, I scored. You won’t have many of those nights. You enjoy it, you like the win and you move on.” Vanek can attribute the outing to luck all he wants, but he earned the avalanche of points. He skated hard, controlled pucks, made nice passes and tortured the Flyers and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. “He’s got a lot of special talents, and he used them all,” said Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers, who snapped a 2-2 tie with 5:03 left.

Though the moves came as a shock to most of the team, the Flames (12-15-4) responded by winning for the fourth time in six games, 2-1 in overtime over Carolina. Karri Ramo made 29 saves and denied the Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner on a penalty shot in the third period before defenseman Chris Butler scored the winner. "We reacted the right way (to the front-office shakeup). A lot of things in the game are out of your control," said enforcer Brian McGrattan, who scored the Flames' first goal. "You can only control the things that you do and that's how hard you work and how good your attitude is." Glencross, who has five goals and four assists in 16 games, returned from a 15- game absence due to a knee injury. Calgary could be getting another key player back as early as Saturday.
