THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW • Tonight’s game marks the second of a three-game home stand, which opened with a 3-1 loss to Detroit on Jan. 13. After hosting the Flyers on Saturday, the Sabres will not play at First Niagara Center again until Feb. 5 vs. STL. • The last time these clubs played, the Sabres scored on each of their first two shots in the game. The teams also combined to score three times in a 17-second span, the fastest combined three goals in franchise history for both teams. • Buffalo has played fewer games against Minnesota (15) than any other NHL franchise. • Minnesota has won the last three games between the two clubs, marking the first time either team has recorded a three-game streak in the all-time series. • Chris Stewart leads all Sabres with 12 points (7+5) in 23 career games against the Wild.

ALL-STAR Z • Second-year Latvian forward Zemgus Girgensons led all NHL players with 1,574,896 votes in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game Fan Vote and will become the 30th player in Sabres history to appear in the All-Star Game when he plays in this year’s installment on Jan. 25 in Columbus. • Of the other 29 Sabres All-Stars, only five others were selected to appear in the game in either of their first two NHL seasons: Tom Barrasso, Phil Housley, Rick Martin, Gilbert Perreault, Christian Ruuttu • With 11 goals this season, Girgensons has already bested his total of eight from his 70-game rookie season. He is two points from tying his 22-point output from last season. • Girgensons leads all Sabres forwards with an average ice time of 18:57 per game this season.

LOGGING BIG MINUTES • Entering Wednesday night’s games, Tyler Myers led all Sabres and ranked 10th in the league with an average time on ice of 25:15 per game. • He skated a team-high 22:09 on Jan. 6 at NJD in his return from a lower-body injury that sidelined him for seven games and has topped 23 minutes in all three games played since then. • Myers has averaged 25:30 of ice time in his last 10 games despite playing only 13:10 in the game in which he sustained his injury. He entered that game having averaged 28:11 in the previous 10 games; it was the highest 10-game average of his career. • Myers last led the Sabres in ice time in a season in his rookie season of 2009-10, when he averaged 23:44 per game.

IN THE LINE OF FIRE • Josh Gorges ranks second in the NHL with 117 blocked shots despite missing nine games to injury this season. • Gorges has blocked 12.7 percent of all opponent attempts taken with him on the ice this season, ranking third among NHL defensemen who have played at least 20 games entering play Wednesday. (Shot attempt data via war-on-ice.com) • His best full-season on-ice shot blocking percentage was 13.0 percent in 2011-12 with Montreal. No NHL-regular defenseman has topped 14 percent in a full season since the league started counting blocked shots in 2005-06.

FAMILIAR FACES Three players on each of these teams’ rosters have direct ties to tonight’s opponent: • Thomas Vanek was a member of the Sabres for just over eight seasons from 2005-2013. Initially drafted by Buffalo in the first-round (fifth overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft, Vanek finished his career with the Sabres ranked 10th in franchise history in points (497), fifth in goals (254), 13th in assists (243), fourth in power play goals (106) and fourth in game-winning goals (41). • Jason Pominville spent the better part of nine seasons as a member of the Sabres (2003-2013), also serving as from 2011- 2013. During this time, he suited up for a total of 578 games with Buffalo and recorded 456 points (185+271). • Keith Ballard was the Sabres’ first selection in the 2002 NHL Draft (11th overall), but did not appear in any games with the team. • Torrey Mitchell spent parts of two seasons with the Wild from 2012-2014. He appeared in a total of 103 games and tallied 17 points (5+12). • Matt Moulson spent part of the 2013-14 season with the Wild, tallying 13 points (6+7) in 20 games and adding three points (1+2) in 10 playoff games. • Cody McCormick also played for the Wild for part of the 2013-14 season, registering two points (1+1) during a span of 14 games. He also contributed one goal in 13 postseason appearances. • Each of these three Sabres players were involved in a single trade last year, as Buffalo traded Moulson and McCormick to Minnesota in exchange for Mitchell and two second-round draft picks. Moulson and McCormick returned to the Sabres as free agents on July 1.

13 Things To Know: 1. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Minnesota has used 33 different lineups in its 42 games this season (78.6%). Only five skaters have played in every game for Minnesota: Coyle, Koivu, Niederreiter, Pominville and Vanek.

2. The Wild is winless in its last six games (0-5-1). Last season, Minnesota lost six straight games in regulation to end the 2013 calendar year, and opened 2014 with a 4-1 victory vs. the Sabres in Saint Paul. The Jan. 2 victory versus Buffalo last season began a stretch of four straight wins and a 23-10-7 record to clinch a playoff spot.

3. Minnesota has outshot its opponents in 32-of-42 games this season (76.2%), totaling a 1,339-1,144 advantage. Minnesota ranks fourth in the NHL in both fewest shots against/game this season (27.2) and shots/game (31.9). The Wild has tallied 40-plus shots in five games this season, a mark it did not hit in a single game last season, and has totaled at least 35 shots in 14 games this year.

4. Wednesday, Minnesota acquired goalie Devan Dubnyk from Arizona in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The 28-year-old has appeared in 192 NHL games with Edmonton, Nashville and Arizona, averaging a 2.88 GAA and .900SV%. He has also represented in five IIHF World Championships.

He has posted points in 16 of his last 23 games, totaling 21 points (5-16=21) in that span. Since Nov. 16, he has recorded 19 assists in 25 games – T-4th-most in the NHL in that span.

He has topped 30 minutes in 13 games this season and has led all skaters – Wild and opponent – in TOI in all but three of his 40 games this season (92.5%). In 17 games since returning from mumps symptoms Dec. 9, he ranks T-6th amongst all NHL defensemen with 10 assists and ranks second in TOI/game (29:57). Of the 170 regular-season games he has played for Minnesota, he has led all Wild players in TOI in 161 of those contests (94.7%). He has led all skaters, Wild and opponent, in TOI in 150-of-170 games (88.2%).

Despite missing seven games this season, the alternate captain is T-1st on the Wild in shots (130), PPG (5), second in points (30) and T-2nd in goals (14). The Bloomington native has points in 13 of his last 22 games, totaling 8-10=18 in that span. He has led the Wild to the Stanley Cup the last two seasons after a five-year absence. Minnesota has posted a record of 122-101-31 (.541) during his four seasons as Head Coach. Yeo, the youngest Head Coach in the NHL, helped lead the Wild’s previous primary affiliate, the Houston Aeros, to a 46-28-1-5 record and the Calder Cup Final in his first season as a Head Coach in 2010-11. The Aeros led the Western Conference and ranked third in the AHL with 46 regular season wins after it did not qualify for the playoffs in 2010. Yeo served as an Assistant Coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2005-10).
