  • Grand Opening of the Todd Bardes Meadowlands Side Trail by Nancy Tilt, TBTC Conservation Committee
Winter 2016-2017 THE QUARTERLY OF THE TORONTO BRUCE TRAIL CLUB Vol. LIII No. 4 www.torontobrucetrailclub.org | 416-763-9061 | [email protected] Grand Opening of the Todd Bardes Meadowlands Side Trail by Nancy Tilt, TBTC Conservation Committee Friends and family, hikers, and Toronto Bruce Trail Club Conservation Committee members, about 75 in all, gathered at Limehouse Com- munity Hall on a beautiful early September Sunday. The occasion was the Grand Opening of a new Side Trail in memory of Todd Bardes, a dedicated and treasured Bruce Trail volunteer. Car and bus thru-hikes had been organized for the day to coincide with the early afternoon opening of the Trail. Peter Leeney, friend of Todd and currently Land Stewardship Director and past President of the Toronto Club, spoke of Todd's long history with the Bruce Trail. Todd joined the Bruce Trail Association in 1994 and had been actively involved with trail activities since 1996 both at the club level, the broader Board level, and most recently as President. In 2001 the Bruce Trail purchased the 39-acre Springle property just north of Limehouse. Todd and his wife, Christina, subsequently took on the role of Land Stewards. Existing ATV disturbance in the mead- owland portion of the property was an issue needing attention. Fellow Bruce Trail volunteer, Andrew Costley, came up with the idea of a community-based and monitored Side Trail through the meadow. Todd, along with support from other volunteers, wholeheartedly agreed, and through their efforts the Side Trail came to life. Andrew Costley, on behalf of all volunteers who knew Todd, spoke Hike Leader Training 2017 of him as a friend and mentor, providing both advice and leadership with wise and patient counsel.

  • Routing Changes – Junction Area Study
For Action Routing Changes – Junction Area Study Date: April 11, 2019 To: TTC Board From: Chief Customer Officer Summary The TTC operates an established and mature bus network. TTC staff conduct localized area network studies to ensure that the bus network continues to reflect changes in community population and employment and the best way to serve customers and their travel patterns. The TTC 5-Year Service Plan and 10-Year Outlook will identify future area network studies to be prepared as part of future annual service plans. This report recommends routing changes resulting from the Junction Area Study. The TTC Board reviewed and approved a study update of the Junction Area Study at the July 10, 2018 meeting. Since then, staff have refined the study to incorporate further feedback from consultations with the local communities. The recommendations in this report address the two remaining issues identified by customers: Provide new continuous transit service along Dundas Street West between Dundas West Station and Kipling Station; and, Provide new continuous transit service along St Clair Avenue West between Gunn’s Loop (Weston Road) and Scarlett Road Subject to Board approval, the routing and service improvements outlined in this report can be implemented in Q4 2019 and improve service for 11,000 customer-trips per weekday. The recommended service changes are expected to benefit customers by reducing trip duration, reducing waiting time for vehicles, and eliminating transfers from journeys through more direct service. Recommendations It is recommended that the TTC Board: 1. Endorse the implementation of the bus route changes detailed in this report for the St Clair Avenue West and Dundas Street West corridors effective in Q4 2019.

  • Accessible Transit Services Plan: 2010 Status Report
TORONTO TRANSIT COMMISSION REPORT NO. MEETING DATE: February 2, 2011 SUBJECT: ACCESSIBLE TRANSIT SERVICES PLAN: 2010 STATUS REPORT ACTION ITEM RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Commission forward this report to the City of Toronto, Metrolinx, the Ontario Ministries of Community and Social Services, Transportation, Energy and Infrastructure, and the Ontario Human Rights Commission, noting that: this report fulfils the provincially-legislated requirement in the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 for an annual documentation of the TTC’s accessibility plan; the TTC is making steady progress in the implementation of its Accessible Transit Services Plan, with accessibility initiatives underway on bus, streetcar, and rapid transit modes; the status of the TTC’s current activities to improve the accessibility of its facilities and services is described in more detail in the attached Appendix 1, entitled, TTC Accessible Transit Services Plan - 2010 Status Report; due to budget constraints, the TTC will not be able to retrofit subway stations with elevators and accessibility features as quickly as previously planned. Previous plans called for all stations to be retrofitted by 2020, while the current plan defers this completion date to 2024; Provincial regulations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities, 2005 (AODA) are being enacted, and these will apply to all public sector agencies, including the TTC. The TTC is in compliance with the regulations for customer service that came into effect January 2010. A consolidated regulation for standards for accessible transportation, employment, and communications is expected to be posted for public review early in 2011. The regulation for standards for the built environment will follow at a later date.
