Taktiež zloženie a štruktúra riadiacich orgánov - vedenia ústavu a ústavnej rady zostala nezmenená. Celková prevalencia AP a CNM dosahovala 3,4% a 4,5%. CARPENTER Museum of Comparative ZoSlogy, Harvard University During the three years subsequent to the publication of my revision of the Nearetie Meeoptera *, a number of new and interesting species have come to my attention. Some of these were taken by me in the central and western states, but by far the majority were received from other entomolo- gists, as follows: Mr. E. S. Thomas, Ohio State Museum; Mr. C. A. Frost, Framingham, Mass. Dr. C. 13. Philip, Hamil- ton, Montana;Dr. H. B. Mills, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming; Mr. E. P. Van Duzee, California Academy of Sciences; Mr. L. C. To all these I am grateful for their eo6peration. In the present paper I have included the most interesting of the new locality records and descriptions of eight new spe- eies. Including the latter, the total number of Nearetie species is sixty-four. Family Panorpidm Brachypanorp montana Carp. Bull. Mus. Comp. ZoSl., 72 (6) 212; 1931. Four males were taken among pines at Crater Lake, Ore- gon, July 16, 1932, at an altitude of about 8,000 feet (F. M. Carpenter). As far as I am aware, these are the only speci- mens in addition to the types which have been collected. No females were found in spite of careful searching. Panorpa lugubris Swederus Kgl. There is some controversy about the specific assignment of these populations: while most authors assign them toC. pyrenaica (Gené, 1832), other consider that C. aptera (Mégerlé, 1825) is also present in the Pyrenees. The main objective of this work was to revise the identity and synonyms of Pyrenean Chelidura. Specimens from recent fieldwork and collections (MNCN-CSIC) were used for morphological and molecular studies (cytochrome oxidase 1). All Pyrenean specimens shared similar cox1 sequences, very divergent from those of Alpine C. ap- tera. As a consequence, the variability observed in male cerci morphology from the Pyrenees, ranging from long and slightly curved to short and very curved, corresponded to C. pyrenaica, and the presence of C. aptera in the Pyrenees can be rejected. As previously suggested by Maccagno (1933) and Fontana et al. (2021), the revision of the synonymic list uncovered the misplacement of the name F. simplex Germar, 1825 under the synonymy of C. aptera, while it rather represents a synonym of C.

The importance of the paintings, one of the finest examples of European rock art paintings, was recognized shortly after their discovery in 1940. In the 60’s of the past century the cave received a huge number of visitors and suffered a microbial crisis due to the impact of massive tourism and the previous adaptation works carried out to facilitate visits. In 1963, the cave was closed due to the damage produced by visitors’ breath, lighting and algal growth on the paintings. In 2001, an outbreak of the fungus Fusarium solani covered the walls and sediments. Later, black stains, produced by the growth of the fungus Ochroconis lascauxensis, appeared on the walls. In 2006, the extensive black stains constituted the third major microbial crisis. In an attempt to know the dispersion of microorganisms inside the cave, aerobiological and microclimate studies were carried out in two different seasons, when a climate system for preventing condensation of water vapor on the walls was active (September 2010) or inactive (February 2010).

Ankara Üniv Vet Fak Derg, 64, 141-144, 2017 Short Communication / Kısa Bilimsel Çalışma First investigation on vectorial potential of Blattella germanica in Turkey Bekir OĞUZ 1, Nalan ÖZDAL1, Özlem ORUNÇ KILINÇ2, Mustafa Serdar DEĞER1 1 Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Parasitology; 2 Özalp Vocational High School, Van, Turkey. Summary: Cockroaches are claimed to be mechanical vectors of microorganisms such as intestinal parasites, bacteria, fungi, and viruses. This study was conducted to determine the potential role of cockroaches as carriers of parasites having medical importance in Van province, Turkey. One hundred and thirty-eight cockroaches were collected from different parts of apartments and houses between March and April 2014. All of the collected cockroaches were identified as Blatella germanica. They were examined for isolation and identification of intestinal parasites from external surface. The results showed that 66 (48%) of the cockroaches harbored parasitic organisms. Of these, 96.6% were protozoon and the remaining 3.4% were helminthes. Isolated helminth, species were Toxocara sp. (3%), Ascaris lumbricoides (3%), Trichostrongylus sp. (1.5%), Trichuris trichiura (1.5%) and unidentified nematode egg samples (3%). The protozoon identified during the study were Endolimax nana (7.6%), Blastocystis hominis (41%), Entamoeba histolytica/E. dispar (16.7%), unsporulated coccidial oocyst (7.6%), Chilomastix mesnilli (4.5%), Entamoeba coli (35%), Giardia sp. (13.6%) and Iodamoeba butschlii (7.6%). In conclusion, Blattella germanica was found to harbor intestinal parasites of public health importance. Hence, awareness on the potential role of cockroaches in the mechanical transmission of intestinal parasites needs to be further investigated.

  • Long Rdna Amplicon Sequencing of Insect-Infecting Nephridiophagids
www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Long rDNA amplicon sequencing of insect‑infecting nephridiophagids reveals their afliation to the Chytridiomycota and a potential to switch between hosts Jürgen F. H. Strassert 1*, Christian Wurzbacher 2, Vincent Hervé 3, Taraha Antany1, Andreas Brune 3 & Renate Radek 1* Nephridiophagids are unicellular eukaryotes that parasitize the Malpighian tubules of numerous insects. Their life cycle comprises multinucleate vegetative plasmodia that divide into oligonucleate and uninucleate cells, and sporogonial plasmodia that form uninucleate spores. Nephridiophagids are poor in morphological characteristics, and although they have been tentatively identifed as early‑branching fungi based on the SSU rRNA gene sequences of three species, their exact position within the fungal tree of live remained unclear. In this study, we describe two new species of nephridiophagids (Nephridiophaga postici and Nephridiophaga javanicae) from cockroaches. Using long‑read sequencing of the nearly complete rDNA operon of numerous further species obtained from cockroaches and earwigs to improve the resolution of the phylogenetic analysis, we found a robust afliation of nephridiophagids with the Chytridiomycota—a group of zoosporic fungi that comprises parasites of diverse host taxa, such as microphytes, plants, and amphibians. The presence of the same nephridiophagid species in two only distantly related cockroaches indicates that their host specifcity is not as strict as generally assumed. Insects are the most diverse group of all animals. So far, about one million species have been described and recent estimates for extant species range from 2.6 to 7.8 million1,2. Tey are globally distributed and impact human life at numerous levels. In agriculture, for instance, insects play a major role as both pollinators (e.g., honey bees) and pests that feed on crops (e.g., grasshoppers).

  • Scientific Experiences from Pest Advisory in Vorarlberg, Austria
Proceedings of the Eighth International Conference on Urban Pests Gabi Müller, Reiner Pospischil and William H Robinson (editors) 2014 Printed by OOK-Press Kft., H-8200 Veszprém, Papái ut 37/a, Hungary SCIENTIFIC EXPERIENCES FROM PEST ADVISORY IN VORARLBERG, AUSTRIA KLAUS ZIMMERMANN inatura GmbH, Jahngasse 9, 6850 Dornbirn, Austria Abstract The biological advisory service (BAS) of the “inatura-Erlebnis Naturschau Dornbirn” is a free service for the general public, authorities and professionals in the state of Vorarlberg (Austria). Pests and annoying intruders in houses and gardens appear as a main topic for the advisors. They are regularly confronted with new pests, mass occurrences and invasive alien species. The preferred migration corridors of selected species are explained. Some of the invaders enlarge their range naturally are forced by climate changes. Others have been introduced by worldwide trading activities. Key Words Argiope bruennichi, Cheiracanthium mildei, Cylindroiulus caeruleocinctus, Ectobius vittiventris, Harmonia axyridis, invasive species, Leptoglossus occidentalis, mass occurrence, Sceliphron curvatum, Scutigera coleoptrata INTRODUCTION The “inatura – Erlebnis Naturschau Dornbirn” is a museum for natural history in Vorarlberg (Austria). It was founded in 1960 by the state government and by the city of Dornbirn. In 2003 it was transformed into a limited liability company. Besides the classical challenges of a museum like exhibition, conservation and research, inatura also offers a biological advisory service (BAS). This service works on enquiries of the general public, mass media, authorities and professionals (e.g. pest controllers or physicians). A wide range of questions concerning animals, plants and fungi have to be handled. An increasing part of the consultants’ work is pest advisory in a broad sense, including troublemakers and intruders.
