BRIDGE/ENRICHMENT COURSES:

SAT/ACT Prep: Cost $150 June 7 - June 18 7:45am- 9:45am or 10:00am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ ​ ​ Elective 9-12; no credit, no grade ​ ​ ​

This non-credit course will allow students to hone their SAT/ACT test preparedness. During the SAT/ACT Prep program, teachers will help students improve their knowledge base and test taking skills. Students will attend ten sessions that will acquaint them with the expectations of the test, enable them to analyze their own results and sharpen their understanding of key skills covered on the test.

MATH

AP Calculus Bridge Class: Cost $225 June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective, no credit, no grade

This non-credit, three-week course for incoming juniors and seniors is by teacher recommendation only. It is designed to bridge the curriculum between Integrated Math 3 Honors and AP Calculus AB or BC and requires a high level of mastery of all previous math classes. Students will be expected to make connections, think abstractly, and provide justifications while working numerically, geometrically, symbolically, and verbally. A TI-84 graphing ​ calculator is required. ​ ​

Integrated Math 2 Honors Bridge Class (Invite Only) June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective, no credit, no grade, no charge

This non-credit, three-week course is for recommended freshmen who meet the following criteria: NWEA math scores of 245+ and D117 department chair recommendation. This course is required for students who have completed a Algebra 1 course and want to enroll in Integrated Math 2 Honors - the second-year course in D117’s Integrated Math Curriculum. Units in basic geometry, geometric reasoning, one-variable statistics, and two-variable statistics will cover the standards aligned to D117’s Integrated Math 1 Honors course that are not taught in traditional Algebra 1 courses. A TI-84 graphing calculator is required. ​

SOCIAL STUDIES

AP History Bridge Class: Cost $150 June 7 - June 18 7:45am- 9:45am or 10:00am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective, no credit, no grade

This non-credit course is for recommended students who meet the following criteria: students interested in enrolling in either AP European History or AP United States History in the fall. The curriculum will focus on skills that will support success in level history courses. Skills such as effective reading, and note taking, thesis development, vocabulary development, document analysis, FRQ/DBQ, organization, and use of evidence to support claims will be emphasized.

AP Human Geography Bridge Class (Invite Only) Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ June 14 – June 18 7:45am- 9:45am or 10:00am-12:00pm @ Antioch Community High School June 28 - July 2 7:45am- 9:45am or 10:00am-12:00pm @ Lakes Community High School Elective, no credit, no grade, no charge

This non-credit course is recommended for students interested in enrolling in AP Human Geography in the fall. The curriculum will focus on skills including: writing Free Response Questions, analyzing data on maps, charts, and graphs in a college level history course, effective reading and study skills, and more. This course will support AP Human Geography students in being successful critical thinkers in a college level history course.

AP Chemistry Bridge Class: Cost $75 June 7 - June 11 7:45am- 9:45am or 10:00am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective, no credit, no grade

This non- credit, one-week course is recommended for students enrolling in AP Chemistry in the fall. The course will focus on the major content objectives needed in order to begin the year in AP Chemistry.

AP Biology Bridge Class: Cost $75 ​ June 7 - June 11 7:45am- 9:45am or 10:00am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective, no credit, no grade ​

This non-credit, one-week course is recommended for students enrolling in AP Biology in the fall. The course will focus on the major Biology content objectives necessary to begin the year in AP Biology.

Sustainable Living: Cost $225 June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective 09-12, no credit, no grade @ Lakes Community High School ​

Become a more thoughtful consumer and reduce your ecological footprint with this course that teaches you how to integrate sustainable practices into your everyday life. By learning specific knowledge and techniques on how to work more efficiently with the energy, water, and food you consume, you can live a more balanced and sustainable lifestyle that also positively impacts the world around you. This class includes field trips to local businesses and farms as well as time establishing and maintaining our district garden.

CREDIT BEARING COURSES:

Life Resource Management (LRM): Cost $225 June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective 11-12, 1 semester, 0.5 credit @ Lakes Community High School ​

LRM teaches students the skills necessary to live on their own. The majority of the topics covered will be project-based experiences. Topics include consumer rights and responsibilities, money management (including checking and credit), and employment preparation. This course fulfills the Consumer Education graduation requirement.

Personal Finance: Cost $225 June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective 11-12, 1 semester, 0.5 credit @ Antioch Community High School ​

Personal Finance helps prepare students for life on their own. Students will gain the knowledge necessary to make wise financial decisions that will benefit their personal and professional lives. The major areas of study will focus on banking, budgeting, obtaining and using credit, renting an apartment, comparison shopping, insurance, financial management, and sources of consumer information. Projects and hands on activities are a vital part of this course, including the Virtual Business—Personal Finance simulation. This course meets the Consumer Education requirement for graduation.

American Government: Cost $225 June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Required 12 only, 1 semester, 0.5 credit

American Government is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to participate effectively in a democratic society. Students will gain a strong understanding of how federal and state governments operate, how the government’s actions affect individuals and the role of citizens in the democratic system. Class activities include research and exploration, written projects, discussion of current and controversial topics, and simulations. This class will prepare students for the required examinations on the Illinois and United States Constitutions and meets the state civics graduation requirement.

Art 2D (Two dimensional): Cost $225 June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective 9-12, 1 semester, 0.5 credit

This credit class is a general introduction to drawing, painting, collage, elements of art, principles of design, and art history. Students will be introduced to various media and techniques in producing two-dimensional works of art.

Art 3D (Three dimensional): Cost $225 June 7 - June 25 7:45am-12:00pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective 9-12, 1 semester, 0.5 credit

This credit class is a general introduction to sculpture, ceramics, elements of art and principles of design, and art history. Students will work with various materials and techniques in producing three-dimensional works of art.

Students must be 15 by June 1, 2021 to enroll and have adult/guardian permission.

This driver education course is an accelerated two-phase program that consists of 15 days of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel (BTW) instruction. Students will attend a 2-hour block of virtual classroom instruction to meet the 30-hour classroom requirement from the State of Illinois. During the first week of classroom, parents and students will sign up to select 6 different dates, spaced out 1-2 sessions/drives per week. Students will ​ ​ select a 2-hour block with a driving instructor; 1 hour of driving training and 1 hour of observation to meet the 6-hour BTW training and 6 hours of observation requirement from the State of Illinois. In Accordance with ISBE, driving must be extended over a minimum of a 4 week period. They will receive driving training one to two times a week with an instructor. In addition, students should receive a minimum of 2 hours of home practice each week during the course. Driving outside this course is crucial to the completion and success of the student in this program. Enrollment ​ ​ in the course will be selected by birthdate and not by order of sign up.

Attendance is critical for the virtual classroom component to meet the 30 hour classroom component per Illinois State law requirements. Students will only be allowed one medical or extenuating absence and proper documentation will need to be submitted for that absence. After 1 absence a student will be dropped from the course; if ​ ​ documentation is not provided and any more absences, students will be dropped from the course even for illness.

Attendance for the Behind-the-wheel portion is critical as teachers and other student’s time is valuable. COVID related issues will be handled on a case by case basis.

Students must have a permit on the first day of the course, and are eligible to receive a permit 30 days prior to the start date. Permit testing will take place at the high school prior to the summer session beginning. If the student does not attend that session, then they MUST visit the DMV to obtain their permit. Students should begin reviewing the Rules of the Road when they register for the course. ● Note: There is a separate $20 permit fee required by the Secretary of State in Illinois. Summer Freshman Academy Summer Freshman Academy (Invite only) ​ (location: Lakes & Antioch Community High Schools) Registration occurs separately by Google Form ​ June 9 - June 30 8:00 am -12:00 pm Registration Deadline: May 26 ​ Elective, 0.5 credit, Pass grade for those who complete the program satisfactorily This course is designed to foster reading, writing, math, and organizational skills for selected incoming freshmen as well as build social-emotional skills including growth mindset, resilience, self-efficacy and grit.

Full Semester Credit Recovery June 7 - June 25 as assigned - Seating is limited - Times Assigned ​ Session (1) 7:45am-9:45am, Session (2) 10:00am-12:00pm, Session (3) 12:30-2:30pm For students who have failed a Semester 1 or 2 course ​ Cost: No fee for credit recovery for Summer 2021 Registration Deadline: June 2 Students can recover up to 2.0 credits by registering for up more than two courses and all three time sessions. Satisfactory completion of a combination of online assignments and independent written work will fulfill course requirements with a grade of “P” for Pass. No grade point value will be assigned.
