Abstract.—Some critical remarks on Oestophora cuerdai Quintana, Vicens et Pons, 2006 (Mollusca: Pulmonata: Helicodontidae). Oestophora cuerdai Quintana, Vicens et Pons, 2006 in an endemic helicodontid from the Late Pleistocene of the island of Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Western Mediterranean), which was recently described on the basis of specimens housed at the Museu de la Naturalesa de les Illes Balears– Societat d’Història Natural de les Balears (MNIB-SHNB). A new genus and species, Darderia bellverica Altaba, 2007, have been described in parallel on the basis of specimens housed at the Museu de Zoologia de Barcelona (MZB). In this paper it is concluded that both taxa are synonymous. In spite of this fact, there are considerable differences in the description of the dentition of O. cuerdai as compared to D. bellverica; these most likely result from the different preservational state of the specimens employed for each description (better in the shells from the MNIB-SHNB). The description of D. bellverica is ambiguous and partial, the accompanying iconography is insufficient, and the biogeographic arguments are unsubstantiated and incongruous. The description of D. bellverica is based on the presence of pits for the insertion of hairs of the periostracum and in the ornamentation of the protoconch; these features are not figured on the original description. The inclusion of D. bellverica in the subfamily Lindholmiolinae is based on a clearly erroneous interpretation of the basal tooth and the presumed similarities between the (non-figured) protoconch of D. bellverica and Atenia quadrasi. The conchological similarities with the genus Oestophora are neither taken into account. D. bellverica does not display 1-5 infrapalatal denticles, but a basal tooth and an elongated palatal tooth. In fact, the dentition displays an excrescency that might indicate that the holotype corresponds to a teratological individual. The type locality does not entirely match the geographic location of the specimens found by Gasull, in which the description of D. bellverica is based. Finally, the date of publication of D. bellverica is not correct; it cannot correspond to year 2006, because the acceptance of the paper took place during year 2007. On application of the Principle of Priority, it is concluded that the genus Darderia and the species D. bellverica are junior subjective synonyms of Oestophora and O. cuerdai, respectively. This work presents results of two years collecting efforts within the project “The role of the alpine karst area in Bulgaria as reservoir of species diversity”. It summarizes distribution data of 44 terrestrial gastropods from the Bulgarian part of Alibotush Mts. Twenty-seven species are newly recorded from the Alibotush Mts., 13 were con- firmed, while 4 species, previously known from the literature, were not found. In the gastropod fauna of Alibotush Mts. predominate species from Mediterranean zoogeographic complex. A large part of them is endemic species, and this demonstrates the high conservation value of large limestone areas in respect of terrestrial gastropods. Within Ariantinae, C. obtusus stands out because of its aberrant cylindrical shell shape. Here, we present phylogenetic trees based on these five marker sequences and discuss the position of C. obtusus and phylogeographical scenarios in comparison with previously published results. Our results provide strong support for the sister-group relationship between Cylindrus and Arianta confirming previous studies and imply that the split between the two genera is quite old. The tree reveals a phylogeographical pattern of Ariantinae with a well-supported clade comprising the Balkan taxa which is the sister group to a clade with individuals from Alpine localities.

This data suggests that the genus Atenia Gittenberger, 1968 should be placed in the Subfamily Lindholmiolinae Schileyko, 1978 within the Family Helicodontidae Kobelt, 1904. The small range of this species and the threat to the habitat both suggest that A. quadrasi should be considered threatened. Novaj; Hungary) A. Dávid Abstract: Among the Egerian Age exposures of North-east Hungary the Molluscan Clay of Wind Brickyard (Eger) and Nyárjas Hill (Novaj) contain fossils in exceptional richness. Distribution of molluscs of the Molluscan Clay of these two outcrops according to habitats and feeding habits is examined and compared. There are definite differences between the two localities. Introduction Among the several Upper-Oligocene outrops of North-Hungary the Molluscan Clay layers «f _Wind Brickyard, Eger and Nyárjas Hill, Novaj is compared (Fig.l.). These layers contain well-preserved „micro-mollusc" fossils abudantly. The bivalves, gastropods and schaphopods which were living here during the Egerian stage have belonged into the Hinia — Cadulus fossil community. It refers to similar paleoenvironments in case of both localities. The sea was deeper than 120 metres and the bottom was covered by fine-gra ined, clayey sediments. The aim of the investigation was to examine the distribution of the molluscs according to habitats and feeding habits in the collected materials. Methods Fifteen kilograms of clay was taken from both localities. After drying the samples were treated with hot water and peroxide of hydrogen. This material was washed out through a 0,5 nun sieve. At the end the molluscan remains were assorted from among the other fossils (e.gJ^oraminifera, Decapoda, Echinoidea, Osteichthyes).

  • Is Lindholmiola Corcyrensis (Rossmässler, 1838) (Mollusca: Gastropoda) Extinct in Croatia?

Vesna Štamol Croatian Natural History Museum, Demetrova 1, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia Štamol, V.: Is Lindholmiola corcyrensis (Rossmässler, 1838) (Mollusca: Gastropoda) extinct in Croatia? Nat. Croat., Vol. 25, No. 1, 159–162, 2016, Zagreb. This paper discusses the reliability of data on finding localities of the land snailLindholmiola corcy- rensis (Rossmässler, 1838) in Croatia and concludes that this species has probably never inhabited and probably does not inhabit Croatia. Key words: land snails, Lindholmiola corcyrensis, Croatia Štamol, V.: Lindholmiola corcyrensis (Rossmässler, 1838) (Mollusca: Gastropoda) izumrla u Hrvatskoj? Nat. Croat., Vol. 25, No. 1, 159–162, 2016, Zagreb. Ključne riječi: kopneni puževi, Lindholmiola corcyrensis, Hrvatska The malacologists Peter Subai and Eike Neubert recently published a very important paper (Subai & Neubert, 2014), providing a comprehensive look at the terrestrial snails of the genus Lindholmiola. All the statements given about the conchiological characteri- stics, genital structures, synonyms and distribution maps emerged exclusively from the authors’ study of an impressive number of specimens from significant private and mu- seum collections. Accordingly, we find that the only species of the genus Lindholmiola found in Croatia is L. corcyrensis (Rossmässler, 1838), with three localities. The paper lists the coordinates of two of these localities (both in southern Dalmatia: Prapratna Bay on the Pelješac Peninsula, and the islet Badija near the island of Korčula).
