Seven species are local endemics for the region of Lake Prespa and adjacent mountains, eight are West-Balkan endemics and seven are Balkan endemics. There are no species considered threatened according to the IUCN cat- egories and only one species, Orcula wagneri, is in the category Near Threatened. Of the habitats studied, limestone rocks and rocky grasslands are the most important for the diversity of the gastropods in the region. Key words: Albania, Prespa National Park, terrestrial gastropod fauna, distribution Introduction The Prespa National Park is included in the network Previous studies have recorded 13 terrestrial gas- of protected territories in Albania and is an integral tropod species and subspecies from the the territory of component of the planned large trans-boundary con- the Prespa National Park and its vicinity: Helix schlae- servation area occupying the Lake Prespa drainage flii, Lindholmiola corcyrensis, Lindholmiola lens (A. basin situated in Albania, Greece and the Republic Ferrusac, 1832), Monacha frequens, Montenegrina of Macedonia. K., Z. Fehér, M. Szekeres & U. E. Schneppat Materials and Methods The materials were collected at 41 localities (Table 1, Fig. 1) between 2007 and 2016 in the course of vari- ous field trips. Hand-collecting and the soil-sifting methods were used. The gastropods were preserved in 70% ethanol or kept as dry shells in the collec- tions of the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia (IBER-BAS), the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest (HNHM) and the Natural History Museum, Vienna (NHMW). The morphological and anatomical examinations were carried out using ster- eomicroscope. Results The present study adds 39 species newly re- corded for the territory of the Prespa National Park (Albania) and, with the present publications, 51 mol- lusks taxa are known for the region (Table 2). One species (Lindholmiola lens) was not confirmed. Several species of high importance for biodiversity conservation were found. Seven gastropods are lo- cal endemics for the region of Lake Prespa and ad- jacent mountains, eight are West-Balkan endemics and seven are Balkan endemics. Only one species, Orcula wagneri, is included in IUCN categories for threatened species as Near Threatened. Out of the species recorded, 19 were collected Fig. 1. Online serial at <http://mollusca.sav.sk> 20-Feb-2008. This work presents results of two years collecting efforts within the project “The role of the alpine karst area in Bulgaria as reservoir of species diversity”. It summarizes distribution data of 44 terrestrial gastropods from the Bulgarian part of Alibotush Mts. Twenty-seven species are newly recorded from the Alibotush Mts., 13 were con- firmed, while 4 species, previously known from the literature, were not found. In the gastropod fauna of Alibotush Mts. predominate species from Mediterranean zoogeographic complex. A large part of them is endemic species, and this demonstrates the high conservation value of large limestone areas in respect of terrestrial gastropods. Within Ariantinae, C. obtusus stands out because of its aberrant cylindrical shell shape. Here, we present phylogenetic trees based on these five marker sequences and discuss the position of C. obtusus and phylogeographical scenarios in comparison with previously published results. Our results provide strong support for the sister-group relationship between Cylindrus and Arianta confirming previous studies and imply that the split between the two genera is quite old. The tree reveals a phylogeographical pattern of Ariantinae with a well-supported clade comprising the Balkan taxa which is the sister group to a clade with individuals from Alpine localities.

This data suggests that the genus Atenia Gittenberger, 1968 should be placed in the Subfamily Lindholmiolinae Schileyko, 1978 within the Family Helicodontidae Kobelt, 1904. The small range of this species and the threat to the habitat both suggest that A. quadrasi should be considered threatened. Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (Tübingen, Germany). E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Sandelzhausen is an Early/Middle Miocene (Mammal Neogene zone MN5) fossil site near Mainburg, S Germany, and despite its small size it harbors a rich fossil record. Hundreds of fossil continental mollusks, almost exclusively pulmo- nates snails, were recovered during the excavations, but never received due attention by researchers. Here, the second part of a formal taxonomical treatment of the fossil pulmonates from Sandelzhausen is presented, dealing with the superfam- ilies Succineoidea, Testacelloidea and Helicoidea, and including the description of a new hygromiid species. The follow- ing species were found in the material: Succinea minima (Succineidae); Palaeoglandina sp. (Spiraxidae); Testacella zellii (Testacellidae); Klikia cf. coarctata (Elonidae); Cepaea cf. eversa, Cepaea cf. sylvestrina and Tropidomphalus cf. incras- satus (Helicidae); ?Helicodonta sp. and Helicodontidae indet. Lichadonisia is one of the few volcanic island groups of Greece, consisting mainly of lava flows. Today the islands are uninhabited with high numbers of visitors, but permanent population existed for many decades in the past. Herein, we present for the first time the land snail fauna of the islets and we compare their species richness with islands of similar size across the Aegean Sea. This group of small islands, provides a typical example on how human activities in the current geological era, i.e., the Anthropocene, alter the natural communities and differentiate biogeographical patterns.

TOPONYMIC FACT FILE ALBANIA Country name Albania State title Republic of Albania Name of citizen Albanian Official language Albanian (sqi)1 Country name in official language Shqipëria State title in official language Republika e Shqipërisë Script Roman ISO-3166 country code (alpha-2/alpha-3) AL/ALB Tiranë or Tirana (see geographical names policy Capital in official language(s) below) English conventional name of capital Tirana Introduction Albania is a country in the Balkan peninsula of south-eastern Europe on the Adriatic and Ionian Sea within the Mediterranean Sea. In size it is similar to Belgium, Burundi or Massachusetts. It became independent from the Ottoman Empire in 1912 with international boundaries little different from today. Geographical names policy Albanian names are written in Roman script. Place names should be taken from official Albanian- language sources and all diacritical marks should be retained. Mapping can be found on Albania’s State Authority for Geospatial Information (ASIG) Geoportal. Nouns in Albanian may be in the definite or indefinite grammatical forms, which usually makes a minor difference to the end of the word. Large-scale maps produced during the late Communist era (1970s and 1980s) typically used the definite forms, but the practice in Albania now is to use the indefinite form, except in certain instances where the definite is required for grammatical reasons. PCGN advice is to follow this style, reflecting the forms as shown on current official Albanian cartographic products. Specifically, the indefinite form is used for all populated place names, short-form administrative division names and all physical feature names which do not include a generic term.
