Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (Tübingen, Germany). E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Sandelzhausen is an Early/Middle Miocene (Mammal Neogene zone MN5) fossil site near Mainburg, S Germany, and despite its small size it harbors a rich fossil record. Hundreds of fossil continental mollusks, almost exclusively pulmo- nates snails, were recovered during the excavations, but never received due attention by researchers. Here, the second part of a formal taxonomical treatment of the fossil pulmonates from Sandelzhausen is presented, dealing with the superfam- ilies Succineoidea, Testacelloidea and Helicoidea, and including the description of a new hygromiid species. The follow- ing species were found in the material: Succinea minima (Succineidae); Palaeoglandina sp. (Spiraxidae); Testacella zellii (Testacellidae); Klikia cf. coarctata (Elonidae); Cepaea cf. eversa, Cepaea cf. sylvestrina and Tropidomphalus cf. incras- satus (Helicidae); ?Helicodonta sp. and Helicodontidae indet. (Helicodontidae); Leucochroopsis kleinii and Urticicola perchtae sp. nov. (Hygromiidae). Key words: Gastropoda, MN5 European Mammal Neogene zone, Pulmonata, Stylommatophora, Urticicola perchtae new species Introduction The Sandelzhausen fossil site is one of the most important continental sites in Europe (Moser et al. 2009a) and its bounty include hundreds of specimens of gastropods.

Desenvolvimento. Moluscos. Bradybaena similaris. The relationship between activity rhythm and age in Bradybaena similaris (Férussac, 1821) (Mollusca, Xanthonychidae). This study describes and quantifies the behavioral categories of three age groups of Bradybaena similaris, with 22 animals each (Group 1, 80 days, Group 2, 40 days and Group 3, newly hatched). Eight categories were described. Activity was higher during the night (8,0%, 1,9%, 4,3%) than during the day (6,1%, 1,7%, 2,7%), for the three study groups.

DE WINTER, H.J.W.M. CREMERS & D.M. SOES National Museum of Natural History Naturalis, Postbus 9517, 2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands; [email protected] The occurrence of the Asian tramp snail Bradybaena similaris (Férussac, 1821) is reported from a tropical greenhouse in Burgers’ Zoo near Arnhem, The Netherlands, where the species has been present at least since 2002. The snail was introduced unintentionally from an unknown source, probably with plant material. The morphology of the genitalia is compared with descriptions in the literature from Brazil and Nosi-Be island (Madagascar). This appears to be the first European record for the species. Keywords: Gastropoda, Stylommatophora, Hygromiidae, Bradybaenidae, invasive species In 2002 the first two authors independently collected respectively a juvenile and an adult shell of a land snail species unfamiliar to them in the tropical greenhouse “Burgers’ Bush”, Burgers’ Zoo, Arnhem, The Netherlands. In 2005 the second author collected a larger sample, which the first author recognized as Bradybaena similaris (Férussac, 1821). This snail was introduced unintentionally from an unknown source, probably with plant material. During joint visits by all authors in 2008 and 2009 the species was found abun- dantly. This probably represents the first published record of B. similaris from The Netherlands. The species was not mentioned by Meeuse & Hubert (1949) in their overview of Dutch greenhouse snails. We have searched in vain for records from other European countries.

Novaj; Hungary) A. Dávid Abstract: Among the Egerian Age exposures of North-east Hungary the Molluscan Clay of Wind Brickyard (Eger) and Nyárjas Hill (Novaj) contain fossils in exceptional richness. Distribution of molluscs of the Molluscan Clay of these two outcrops according to habitats and feeding habits is examined and compared. There are definite differences between the two localities. Introduction Among the several Upper-Oligocene outrops of North-Hungary the Molluscan Clay layers «f _Wind Brickyard, Eger and Nyárjas Hill, Novaj is compared (Fig.l.). These layers contain well-preserved „micro-mollusc" fossils abudantly. The bivalves, gastropods and schaphopods which were living here during the Egerian stage have belonged into the Hinia — Cadulus fossil community. It refers to similar paleoenvironments in case of both localities. The sea was deeper than 120 metres and the bottom was covered by fine-gra ined, clayey sediments. The aim of the investigation was to examine the distribution of the molluscs according to habitats and feeding habits in the collected materials. Methods Fifteen kilograms of clay was taken from both localities. After drying the samples were treated with hot water and peroxide of hydrogen. This material was washed out through a 0,5 nun sieve. At the end the molluscan remains were assorted from among the other fossils (e.gJ^oraminifera, Decapoda, Echinoidea, Osteichthyes).

Simple Summary: The superfamily Helicoidea is a large and diverse group of Eupulmonata. The su- perfamily has been the subject of several molecular and phylogenetic studies which greatly improved our knowledge on the evolutionary relationships and historical biogeography of many families. In contrast, the available karyological information on Helicoidea still results in an obscure general picture, lacking a homogeneous methodological approach and a consistent taxonomic record. Never- theless, the available karyological information highlights the occurrence of a significant chromosomal diversity in the superfamily in terms of chromosome number (varying from 2n = 40 to 2n = 62), Citation: Petraccioli, A.; Crovato, P.; chromosome morphology and the distribution of different karyological features among different Guarino, F.M.; Mezzasalma, M.; taxonomic groups. Here we performed a molecular and a comparative cytogenetic analysis on of Odierna, G.; Picariello, O.; Maio, N.

  • Biodiversidad De Gasterópodos Terrestres (Mollusca) En El Parque Biológico Sierra De San Javier, Tucumán, Argentina
Biodiversidad de gasterópodos terrestres (Mollusca) en el Parque Biológico Sierra de San Javier, Tucumán, Argentina María José Miranda & María Gabriela Cuezzo CONICET-Facultad de Ciencias Naturales, Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, Miguel Lillo 251, 4000 Tucumán, Argentina; [email protected], [email protected] Recibido 08-III-2009. Corregido 12-III-2010. Aceptado 08-IV-2010. Abstract: Biodiversity of land gastropods (Mollusca) in Sierra de San Javier Park, Tucumán, Argentina. Studies related to land mollusk diversity in tropical and subtropical forests are scarce. To assess this, a study on land snail diversity of subtropical cloudforest (Yungas) and dry forest (Chaco) areas of Sierra de San Javier Park, Tucumán, Argentina, was carried out. Taxonomic identifications were performed to species level and built a species per stations data matrix to analyze diversity patterns on qualitative and quantitative samples processed from 10x10m quadrates in altitudinal transects. Non parametric analysis (ICE, ACE, Chao 1 and Chao 2) were used to estimate the true diversity of the area, as well as the degree of undersampling and spatial aggregation of the data. Diversity was also calculated using Shannon, Simpson, Whittaker and Jaccard indices. The richness of the San Javier Park was estimated to be 32 species distributed into 13 families and 21 genera. From the total number of species collected, a single one belongs to Caenogastropoda, while the rest of the species are classified into Pulmonata Stylommatophora and Systellommatophora. The most representative family was the micromol- lusc Charopidae, while the most relatively abundant species was another micromollusc snail, Adelopoma tucma. Richness and diversity were slightly more elevated in dry forest areas of the Chacoan Ecoregion than in cloud forest areas of Yungas.
