  • Kings' NBA Venture a USA Slam Dunk for Sydney
Media Release Thursday, 28 September 2017 Kings’ NBA venture a USA slam dunk for Sydney The Sydney Kings will represent the Harbour City on one of the biggest sporting stages in the world next week when they take on the NBA’s Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City on October 3. The Sydney Kings were farewelled today at an event at Sydney’s International Airport enroute to the US for the first ever game between a National Basketball League (NBL) and NBA side. The Kings, whose playing singlets will be emblazoned with Sydney.com, will be representing Sydney in front of a global audience, with the game set to be broadcast live on ESPN Australia and NBA League Pass, the League’s digital streaming service which last year generated 26.7 million game views by domestic and international subscribers. Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the matchup was an exciting opportunity for the Sydney side and a chance to promote Sydney to a huge television and online audience. “The Kings will play with the Sydney.com emblem on their playing singlets, providing a great opportunity to drive viewers to our website where potential visitors can research and plan their trip to the Harbour City,” Mr Marshall said. “We’re expecting to see a spike in website visits off the back of this ground breaking initiative and I know the Kings will do Sydney and NSW proud when they take on the Jazz, which includes Australians Joe Ingles and Dante Exum. “The NBA is one of the most popular sporting leagues in the world, with audiences switching on from all corners of the globe every week, and I am sure this world-first game will be popular viewing.

He joined the Kings on March 3, 2015 as the team’s vice president of basketball and franchise operations and was named General Manager on August 31, 2015. One of the most respected and revered individuals in franchise history, Divac returns to Sacramento having spent more than a decade serving the NBA and international sporting communities with the same distinction that solidified his reputation as a consummate teammate, player, humanitarian and overall difference-maker on and off the basketball court. Divac has served in a variety of administrative and leadership roles since retiring from professional basketball in 2007. In addition to his philanthropic efforts focused on helping children in his native country and other reaches of the globe, he was named President of the Serbian Olympic Committee in 2009. In 16 NBA campaigns with Los Angeles, Charlotte and Sacramento, Divac averaged 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game over 1,134 contests.
