Frink, PhD University of Pittsburgh, 2016 Ornette Coleman (1930-2015) is frequently referred to as not only a great visionary in jazz music but as also the father of the jazz avant-garde movement. As such, his work has been a topic of discussion for nearly five decades among jazz theorists, musicians, scholars and aficionados. While this music was once controversial and divisive, it eventually found a wealth of supporters within the artistic community and has been incorporated into the jazz narrative and canon. Coleman’s musical practices found their greatest acceptance among the following generations of improvisers who embraced the message of “free jazz” as a natural evolution in style. -

Além disso, busca-se relacionar o impacto das evoluções tecnológicas na indústria da música, em especial do cenário de propagabilidade proporcionado por ferramentas como o YouTube, como um dos principais difusores do k-pop. Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time. -
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Whitaker Center Welcomes Sully Erna This
Media Contact: Ashlee Hurley Director of Marketing and Sales 717-724-3879 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Whitaker Center Welcomes Sully Erna This Fall Singer, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist Plays Intimate Acoustic Performance Harrisburg, PA- Whitaker Center, in association with SLP Concerts, announces musician Sully Erna at Sunoco Performance Theater on Tuesday, November 15 at 8:00 pm. The singer, songwriter and multi- instrumentalist is launching his ‘Hometown Tour’ in celebration of the release of his new solo album Hometown Life, due out Friday, September 30 via BMG. Only this time, Erna plans on stripping it down for an intimate acoustic evening with guitar-player and band member Tim Theriault. Composed by Erna on piano and acoustic guitar and produced in his New England-based studio, the 10 songs on Hometown Life are a powerful mix of blues, country and adult contemporary, all layered with orchestral overtones offering another stylistic left-hand turn from his first solo album Avalon as well as the music he creates as front man for the multi-platinum rock band Godsmack. Case in point, the powerful and emotional first single "Different Kind Of Tears" written with songwriter/producer Zac Maloy (Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood). A personal, confessional, raw work, Hometown Life offers a wide-ranging glimpse of Erna’s eclectic musical tastes--from singer-songwriter Billy Joel/Bruce Springsteen, to the bossa nova touch of “Take All of Me,” to the breezy island feel of “Your Own Drum,” the finger-snapping Motown bass lines of the bluesy “Turn It Up,” the country flavors of “Different Kind of Tears” and the wide-screen canvas of mini- symphonies such as “Blue Skies” and “Forever My Infinity.” All of them are tied together with Erna’s unflinching view of the emotional roller-coaster of his life, drawing us into a very intimate space. -

Two Must-See 1990S Artists, Vanilla Ice and Mark Mcgrath, Are Bringing
Contact: Caitlyn Baker [email protected] (805) 944-7780 (c) (805) 350-7913 (o) VANILLA ICE AND MARK MCGRATH TO PERFORM AT CHUMASH CASINO RESORT SANTA YNEZ, CA – May 30, 2019 – Two must-see 1990s artists, Vanilla Ice and Mark McGrath, are bringing their “I Love the 90’s” tour to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019. Tickets for the show are $49, $59, $69, $74 and $79. Be prepared to go back in time and enjoy a retro night of music, dancing and nostalgic hits like “Ice, Ice Baby,” “Play That Funky Music,” “Fly” and “Every Morning.” Born Robert Matthew Van Winkle, Vanilla Ice first caught mainstream attention in 1990 when a local DJ decided to play “Ice Ice Baby,” a B-side track from his debut album “Hooked.” Due to the track’s quickly growing success, Ice re-released his debut, and not so successful, album, “Hooked,” under the title “To The Extreme.” This album went on to tell more than 15 million copies and once held the record for the highest selling rap record of all time. Later in 1991, Vanilla Ice decided to get involved with the movie business. He made an appearance in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” and then later scored his first feature film, “Cool as Ice.” Later that year, he released a live concert album, “Extremely Live,” which sold 500,000 copies and reached Gold status. Today, he can be seen on his home renovation reality television series, “The Vanilla Ice Project.” The show wrapped up its eighth season this past fall. -
