The Metropolitan Museum of Manila held an opening reception for its newest exhibit entitled, “The City Who Had Two Navels.” The exhibit is curated by the Chapters own, Ar. Edson Cabalfin, PhD with Ar. Arlene Lusterio Taking inspiration from the novel, “The Woman Who Had Two Navels,” by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin, the exhibit displays two “navels” that have moulded our society. The first, how colonialism impacts the formation of the built environment, and second, how the process of neo- liberalization alters the urban landscape. Lectures on the themes of architecture, colonialism and neo-liberalization will also be provided. The exhibit is open from July 2 to October 19, 2019.

The CPD Seminar was held by Foundree with UAP Diliman Chapter Member Ar. Edson Cabalfin PhD as the speaker. The seminar focused on inspiring future generations of architects as well as already existing professionals to delve deeper into the anthropology of the profession as well as its many adjacent and alternative practices.

Foundree is a learning and development center that aims to educate graduates of architecture as well as practitioners, on the various relevant aspects involved in the architectural profession.

The 7th PropertyGuru Philippine Property Awards gala dinner and ceremony was held this past 5th of July celebrating the various innovations in design in the industry from the previous year. The Award for Best Office Architectural Design was given to the Damosa Diamond Tower designed by PDP Architects. UAP Diliman Chapter Fellow Ar. Cathy Saldaña is currently the Managing Director of the company.

Attendees were: incoming officers; Chapter President Charles Alianan, VP for Operations Gerry Zafra, Jr., Reno de Leon, Joan Therese Marie Villamor, Laurence Marco Salsalida, Japeth Ocray, Dante Del Rosario, John Michael B. dela Cruz and Vittorio Veloso,. Past Chapter Presidents Ma. Angela Estabillo, Ma. Christina Puno and Florencio Sebastian III, and past VP for Operations Ramon Gallardo Jr, and Ma. Bernardine D. Reyes were all present to give advice to the incoming officers.

As part of the preparation for the 40th Anniversary Celebration, the UAP Diliman Chapter’s past presidents had gathered together to create the chapter’s personal take on the recitation of the Architect’s Credo. The group had envisioned to make the presentation more personalized whilst also promoting a more modernized manifestation of the timeless tradition. In commemoration of the chapter’s 40th, this seeks to extend to all the members of the chapter on a more personal level, as well as to the entire architecture community.

UAP Diliman member and fellow Ar. Joan Villamor attended the first General Membership meeting for the fiscal year 2019. This was the first GMM of the new Chancellor of the College of Fellows, Ar. Gloria Teodoro. The agenda for the event included the Chancellor’s discussion of her plans for the incoming year as well as some team building activities amongst the members.

The UAP Diliman Chapter celebrated its 40th Anniversary and induction ceremonies this past 13th of July. Among the attendees were the current UAP National President Ar. Benjamin Panganiban Jr., past UAP National President and LIKHA Awardee Ar. Prosperidad Luis, Quezon City City Architect Lucille Chua speaking for Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and the past presidents of the Diliman Chapter. The event also introduced recipients of the Haligi ng Diliman Award for chapter members’ outstanding service to the Architecture community as well as Philippine Society.

Gilles’ feature entitled “The Space Between” she speaks about urban planning and the challenge of apply the practice to the current state of . The “Building and Soul” article on Ar. Luna talks about heritage conservation and its importance in our society, going beyond the restoration of old buildings. Ar. Luna “dreams of raising a breed of archtects that’ll regard architectural heritage conservation as not just a mere practice, but a profession of devotion.”

UAP Dilimaner Ar. Gerard Lico was recently featured in an ABS-CBN segment about the heritage conservation of Wordl War 2 Bunkers in General Santos City. They talk about the bunkers’ recent uncovering and its significance in understanding the history of the Philippines during the Japanese war. Also included in the segment was Dr. Ricardo Jose, a renowned WW2 Historian.

Gerard Lico. Ar. Lico is also a curator for the Met Museum of Manila.
