Overview

Aksum University Shire Branch IDP site is located in the North West Zone of Tigray Region in the campus buildings (dormitories, offices, storage spaces, libraries), as well as in unfinished structures which are very exposed to the elements. The main humanitarian issues in this site include inadequate sanitation facilities (including flooding around latrines) congestion, and insufficient NFIs. As of the time of publication, this site has been prioritized for evacuation by the Zonal authorities, in order to enable reopening of the university. The Shire-based Relocation Taskforce, including the CCCM and Protection Clusters, are working to propose to authorities the possible community relocation consultation process.

Overview

Fre Swuat Secondary school IDP site is located in the North West Zone of Tigray Region in school buildings; emergency shelters have been constructed in the school grounds. The main humanitarian issues in this site include congestion (some IDPs are residing outdoors in the balconies of the multi-story school buildings, which have been clad in plastic sheeting), inadequate WASH facilities. Overview

Midregenet Secondary School IDP site is located in the North West Zone of Tigray Region in school blocks. No additional shelter has been constructed in this site. The main humanitarian issues in this site include shelter congestion (households share unpartitioned classrooms), lack of hygiene kits and insufficient clean water. Latrines are functional but below minimum standards. No access to handwashing facilities and no supplementary food for children identified by a MUAC screening. There is large open pool of water in the site that represents a serious hazard to children and persons with mobility issues, as well as being a malaria risk. Procurement is underway by IOM to fence off this area. As of the time of publication, site planning is underway to plan for additional shelter to be constructed within the school grounds.
