  • Coming to San Luis Obispo County
Coming to San Luis Obispo County Introducing the CowParade In 1999, CowParade debuted in Chicago, featuring 300 painted cows, putting the event on a national stage in the USA. CowParade has since been staged in over 80 cities, spanning 30 countries, and 6 continents, including Paris, Hong Kong, Athens, Moscow, Milan, London, New York, Cannes, Rio, Rome and beyond. CowParade estimates that over 250 million have seen the famous cows worldwide. CowParade - A Mooving Story CowParade has raised more than $30 million for charity. Over 5,000 cows have been created by artists No two cows are alike. San Luis Obispo County has been a chosen region for a 2016-2017 CowParade. How it Works - Step 1 OPEN CALL to sponsors, artists and non-profits to: Sponsor Cows- Both large and small companies and individuals sponsor cows or herds of cows. Sponsors can elect to have their cows benefit a designated non-profit organization of there choosing, or one of the charities designated by CowParade SLO. Sponsors may also purchase their cows as a permanent installation. Local Artists - Designs are submitted from which cow sponsors select their design. Sponsors can work with a specific artist if they have one identified. Local Non-Profits – Assist CowParade in identifying and make introduction and connections to potential cow sponsors. The more sponsors, the more cows, the greater the benefit. How it Works – Step 2 Pre-launch marketing and publicity, in and out of area “A stampede is coming to SLO County 2016” Sponsors and artists are paired to create their unique cow Local artists begin their work and take this… and turn them into this! How it Works – Step 3 Marketing – Over 43% of the cost of each cow will be earmarked for marketing and promotions.

NYC2021 The CowParade God’s Love We Deliver is excited to announce that the Cow Parade is coming back to New York City this summer with God’s Love as the exclusive charity partner! If you were in the city in 2000, you likely recall the CowParade public art event during the summer of that year, which culminated in a live auction that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for New York City non-profits including God’s Love We Deliver. The Mayor’s oce estimated that some 45 million people came to see the cows during the three months of the exhibit. CowParade began in New York and has gone on to stage another 90+ public art exhibits in 34 countries with more than 6,000 life size Fiberglass cows painted and imaginatively transformed by many thousands of global artists and sculptors. God’s Love is thrilled to be staging the 100th global CowParade event this August. NYC2021 Why Moo? The cow is simply a unique, three-dimensional canvas to which artists can easily relate. There really is no other animal that could adequately substitute for the cow. The surface area and bone structures are just right, as well as the height and length. Even more importantly, the cow is an animal we all love. One of the first words we say in our infancy is moo. Cows provide many the milk that fosters our development, and milk is the basis of childhood treats like ice cream. The cow is whimsical, quirky and never threatening. That is why so much of the art in this show causes us to laugh, smile and just feel good, something that New York City is yearning for.

  • A Piece of Me:Annierose Seifert and the SLO Cowparade
A Piece of Me: Annierose Seifert and the SLO CowParade A Senior Project By Annierose Seifert December 2017 Background CowParade is an international art movement brought to sunny San Luis Obispo, California during the summer of 2016. CowParade SLO showcased 101 painted fiberglass cows. Each cow has a different sponsor and artist. This event was created to give back to local charities, attract tourism and notoriety to hosting communities, and give local artists the chance to be on a global stage. CowParade is an international event hosted in more than 70 cities around the globe including Paris, France, Perth, Australia, China and Brazil. The event began in 1999 with the first parade being hosted in Chicago, Illinois (CowParade, 2017). Involvement California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo purchased five cows in total. The College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) sponsored two of the cows and for one of them, selected a student to be the artist. Author and student, Annierose Seifert gladly took the opportunity and painted her very first life-size, fiberglass cow; a piece of art far different than any she had done before. CAFES was aware of the student’s artistic ability from her rodeo coach, Ben Londo. Being a student in the Agricultural Education and Communication Department, they thought it was the perfect opportunity to showcase the Learn by Doing motto of Cal Poly. Getting Started The Cal Poly student has considered herself an artist from the very beginning. She grew up drawing and painting anything she could get her hands on; however, that never included a fiberglass animal.

In Tompkins' impressionist paintings on photographic images, women from the 30's and 40's saucily act out in a frothy, leafy, grassy, effulgent playground, like nymphs in a naturalist boudoir. • Cow in the Museum
There’s a Cow in Our Museum by Mike O’Hara We have a very special cow in our Brighton-Allston Heritage Museum. Her name is “Moo-rathon Runner.” She is not, of course, a real marathon runner, or even a real cow. She is a fiberglass cow. Also, “Moo-rathon Runner” is only part of her name. Her full name is “Moo-rathon Runner on Cow- moo-nwealth Avenue,” which is the title given to her by her design artist, Laura Brooks Meyer, a Boston-based interior designer and artist who entered her in Boston’s Cow Parade back in 2006. Such whimsical names were common among the 117 cows that, like “Moo,” joined Boston’s version of the Cow Parade. For instance, down in the Financial District there was “Cash Cow”; the Waterfront area hosted “Cowtucket”; and in the Back Bay “A Street Cow Named Desire” and “Moom with a View.” So, just what is a Cow Parade? Well, first of all, it is not a real parade. Rather, it is a collection of life size fiberglass cow sculptures designed and painted by local artists featuring artwork specific to local culture, city life and other relevant themes and situated in public places all over the city to provide an enjoyable, unique, family-friendly art-viewing experience. The event also serves to energize the retail and commercial areas in which the cows appear, and at the end of the viewing period, typically three or four months, raises money for worthy causes (usually local children’s hospitals and other charitable organizations) through a public auction.
