The Asia Pacific Zone of the IWFS invites you to an exciting weekend in , India from Friday, February 24 to Sunday, February 26, 2017.

Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India and is said to be one of the world’s top ten centres of commerce besides being home to the largest film industry in the world. The city is a heady mix created by the juxtapositioning of cultural heritage, modern day technological advancement, Bollywood “masala” and old world charm.

The heart of the city, , is dotted with some of the grandest colonial era (Indo- Saracenic, Art-Deco) architecture. A great example of this stands on the Mumbai harbour, the stone arch, built by the British. We will be staying opposite this landmark structure, at the , an iconic building in its own right, built in 1903 and steeped in its very own special history. THE PROGRAMME Bombay Branch has planned a very special programme, to give you a peek into India’s exotic culture and heritage.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2017 Opening dinner at Konkan Cafe - Vivanta Taj President at 7:00 PM The Konkan Cafe at Vivanta President offers a fantastic melange of coastal cuisines from the west coast of India; covering multiple cuisines from each of the states along the Konkan coast. You will savour authentic regional cuisine from the states of Maharastra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala. The restaurant recreates the ambience of a typical Konkan home.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2017 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM - Heritage tour South Mumbai is dotted with architectural gems that are steeped in history. We will take a guided tour around these historic sites of the city. You will witness first hand the mix of Art Deco, modern towers, and Victorian era structures - the eclectic mix that has come to define the city of Mumbai.

11:00 AM to 12:30 PM - Visit to the Museum With introduction by the Museum Director The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralaya (CVMVS) is one of the premier cultural institutions of the country, housing a world-class art collection. The impressive building is a mix of Islamic, Hindu and British architecture and was built in the early years of the 20th century. The CSMVS has an outstanding collection of sculptures, terracottas, bronzes, excavated artifacts from the ancient Harappan sites and Indian miniature and European paintings.

1:00 PM to 2:30 PM - Lunch - Thackers Experience a traditional, Gujarati vegetarian meal, as you sit down to a large silver thali with a number of bowls that are filled with great ease and dexterity. You will get a tiny peek into the complex repertoire of Indian home-style cooking. The event will also present one of the best Indian wine producers who will showcase their wines.

3:00 PM to 4:30 PM - Presidents’ Round Table Meeting Royal Bombay Yacht Club This event is open to Branch Presidents only or in their absence, a proxy delegate. This is an excellent way to share and update on the various events held at the other branches across the Asia Pacific Zone.

7:00 PM - Gala Dinner Ballroom, , Palace Wing 1st Floor The gala event will open with a short recital of traditional Indian dances. Chef Amit Choudhury, Executive Chef of the Taj Group of who created the concept and menu of Varq, the renowned modern Indian cuisine restaurant at the Taj Mahal in Delhi will present several courses. An iconic international wine producer will showcase their wines. Dress Code: Black Tie/National Dress.

7:00 PM - Dinner with Rahul Akerkar - The Clearing House (Optional: not included in base package rate) After he sold his immensely successful and world-renowned Indigo Restaurant chain, and a two-year hiatus, Rahul Akerkar is back, and will cook a meal for us at the newly opened restaurant ‘The Clearing House’. Rahul was a founding committee member of the IWFS Bombay Branch and has cooked for many of its events.
