Corresponding author: Y. Ouagajjou, [email protected]; [email protected] Abstract. The local clam Ruditapes decussatus has been a widespread bivalve along the natural beds in Dakhla Bay (Morocco). But, nowadays its overexploitation during many years has prompted the depletion of its occurrence in many extents and also has limited the availability of natural spat. In this study, the influence of nutrition on spawning, fertilization and larvae rearing was assessed for the first time. The potential of oocytes accumulation and release was highly influenced by the quality of microalgae combination (F = 20.7, p < 0.001) rather than their availability (F = 4.092, p < 0.05). Nevertheless, the eggs fertilization was also significantly affected by diet and ration respectively (F = 7.347, p < 0.01 and F = 4.645, p < 0.05). For larvae rearing, as regards to physiological responses, small size strains Isochrysis galbana and Pavlova lutheri are the most suitable regimen during early larvae phase, while diatom Chaetoceros calcitrans and large size strain Tetraselmis chui are more appropriate during late larvae phase. Therefore, the mixture of the four microalgae was the only diet that led to metamorphosis and settlement throughout this experiment. -

Among the habitats, especially the coasts along Japan, the Pacific coast of the U.S.A. and coasts along Australia have many species and large production. In Japan from ancient times abalones have been used as food. Japanese, as well as American, abalones are famous for their large size. Among abalones, H. gigantea (" Madaka-awabi "), H. gigantea sieboldi (" Megai-awabi "), H. gigantea discus (" Kuro-awabi") and H. discus hannai (" Ezo-awabi") are important in commerce. Abalone is prepared as raw fresh meat (" Sashimi") or is cooked after cut ting it from the shell and trimming the visceral mass and then mantle fringe from the large central muscle which is then cut transversely into slices. These small steaks may be served at table as raw fresh meat (" Sashimi") or may be fried, stewed, or minced and made into chowder. A large proportion of the abalones harvested in Japan are prepared as cooked, dried and smoked products for export to China. -

Presently, these species live in sympatry and the impact of the invasive species was evaluated under controlled microcosmos setting, through combined/manipulated ratios of both species, including monospecifc scenarios and a control without bivalves. Bioturbation intensity was measured by maximum, median and mean mix depth of particle redistribution, as well as by Surface Boundary Roughness (SBR), using time-lapse fuorescent sediment profle imaging (f-SPI) analysis, through the use of luminophores. Water nutrient concentrations (NH4- N, NOx-N and PO4-P) were also evaluated. This study showed that there were no signifcant diferences in the maximum, median and mean mix depth of particle redistribution, SBR and water nutrient concentrations between the diferent ratios of clam species tested. Signifcant diferences were only recorded between the control treatment (no bivalves) and those with bivalves. Thus, according to the present work, in a scenario of potential replacement of the native species by the invasive species, no signifcant diferences are anticipated in short- and long-term regarding the tested functional traits. -

Little is known however about early life history stages, such as the larval and newly settled stages of marine invertebrates. No one has captured wild larval or newly settled red abalone (Haliotis rufescens) in California even though this species supports a recreational fishery. A sampling program has been developed to capture larval (290 mm), newly settled (290–2,000 mm), and juvenile (2–20 mm) red abalone in northern California from 2007 to 2015. Plankton nets were used to capture larval abalone using depth integrated tows in nearshore rocky habitats. Newly settled abalone were collected on cobbles covered in crustose coralline algae. Larval and newly settled abalone were identified to species using shell morphology confirmed with genetic techniques using polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism with two restriction enzymes. Artificial reefs were constructed of cinder blocks and sampled each year for the presence of juvenile red abalone.
