Lima boasts an excellent range of museums and art galleries which can be visited with our guides and specialists, or in your own time. The is not to be missed if you’re interested in Pre-Colombian art and cultures aside the Incas, holding the best collection of Moche pottery in and a fine collection of textiles and gold. Amano Museum is dedicated to pre-Colombian textiles, displaying an impressive private collection. MALI, Lima’s art museum, shows work from the pre-Colombian era to recent past and is housed in an attractive building in the downtown area.

In Barranco, the Pedro de Osma Museum exhibits pieces from the second to eighteenth century, providing the best, small showcase of artifacts to understand the origin of the Incas. Next door is MATE (Mario Testino Museum) exhibiting the famous Peruvian’s photography; you can purchase a double ticket at either museum to visit both at a reduced cost. A triple ticket can be purchased to additionally include MAC Contemporary Art Museum, when they have temporary exhibitions, which is also located in Barranco.

There are two spaces dedicated to textiles and gold and silver objects. In the Larco Museum you can find the famous erotic pottery from the (500AD). Located in a former summer residence, originally built in 1898, this gallery is dedicated to exhibiting the works of contemporary Peruvian photographer, Mario Testino. The permanent exhibition features portraits of Kate Moss, Gisele Bündchen, Madonna and Princess Diana, as well as a images from his celebrated exhibition, Alta Moda. The gallery hosts temporary exhibitions and is accompanied by a lovely shop, with items ranging from fashionable clothes made from hand-stitched textiles to delicate jewelry with a Peruvian flare. This art gallery features a collection of contemporary art exhibitions housed in three seperate spaces as well as an outdoor park and garden. On-site there is also a nice, peaceful café, La Bodega Verde.

The MALI is housed in the beautiful ‘Palace of the Exhibition’ building which has an iron structural design by the Eiffel Company and is surrounded by charming gardens. It contains four centuries of Peruvian artworks, including modern paintings. It also houses Pre-Colombian artifacts and colonial furniture. The museum’s permanent exhibition is located on the 2nd floor, and on the 1st floor they offer interesting temporary exhibitions. It has a very nice museum shop (including a range of books on Peru) and a café.

It is located on one of the most traditional streets in Lima, and offers free entrance to its small but interesting collections. The basement displays a lovely Pre- Colombian gold coin collection, the main floor offers traditional arts from Pablo Macera’s collection such as festive masks and fabrics, and the top floor houses contemporary art.

This art project is centered around the Ronald Building, a former office building. Restored and renovated, it now houses six floors of working art studios, contemporary galleries and high-end boutiques. Around the building are further art galleries, such as Evolución and Bufeo, with work available for purchase. This area is now also notable for its contemporary graffiti street art murals.

This is the best state museum and displays over 100,000 items (including the likes of pottery and artifacts) to explain the entire history of Peru from the earliest cultures to contemporary times.
