Dixie Olds Club 2016 Membership Application March 2016 Rocket Review A Message From Your Dixie Olds President My Mother always told me that the older I got the faster time would pass. She was right. Seems as if it was just a few short weeks ago I was writing a President’s message (January) and already we are into the month of March. We’ve had some warm, beautiful days and I’m sure many of you are looking forward to getting your Oldsmobiles ready for another car show season. Our club has been invited to participate in an Atlanta area Easter Parade on March 27, 2016 and we have the BOP&C show coming up later this spring, on April Dixie Olds Club 29 - 30, 2016 to name a couple. More on these events as well as others appear at the end of the newsletter. Board Planning for the Oldsmobile Club of President Doug Williams America (OCA) Nationals continues. Page 3 • March 2016 3 • March Page Rocket Review Member Sightings Jerry Hicks was recently spotted driving a 1976 Cutlass Karen and Joe Neely made a grand appearance on a cold Salon in Cream Gold that was built in the (now leveled) day in their 1971 Olds Cutlass Supreme convertible. It’s Doraville Assembly Plant. It’s a project car that he has their second one, named Ruby II – their first one was also owned for 2.5 years and is slowly bringing back to her red and named Ruby. Joe and Karen have had Ruby II for original glory. She still has her original 350 V-8 engine two years. It has a new top, new windshield, new radial and 3-speed auto transmission, with bucket seats and floor tires, and a modern radio with CD player hidden in the shifter. At a mere 64,000 miles, Jerry enjoys driving her as glove box! They enjoy cruising to the Dacula Memorial much or more than his other three Oldsmobiles.

Take the hot wire that goes to the original Sami coil (hopefully it is still there) lengthen it, put an eyelet on it, and voila!!! It's hot when the key is on, therefore energizing the solenoid. On your relay plug base or your actual glow plug relay, you will find a set of numbers. Take a look here at figure #4: http://acmeadapters.com/support_2.php Figure number 4 will show you what wires go where and what wires your missing in your plug end. We'll help you through the wiring. Its not as scary as it seems. For your starter circuit, you need to use your stock samurai wiring harness as is with no modifications: Black wire with a yellow stripe goes to your solonoid on the starter. Fat red wire from the battery goes to your solonoid post with the big nut.

One would think that other parts of the country would be more conducive to the formation of such an important part of the history of this nation. Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana were not members of the original 13 states and therefore have to be considered less developed territories than the original thirteen states around the turn of the 19th century when the American gasoline powered automobile was invented. Statistics of the Department of Industry show that sales of large cars in Australia peaked way back in 2003, the year of the Iraq war which was designed to use Iraqi's oil to push the global peak a couple of years into the future. Only months before the invasion then Prime Minister Howard joined the collation of the peaking he announced a13 year long assistance package for the Australian car industry – without introducing mandatory fuel efficiency standards for car fleets. Holden's demise was sealed in 2009 at the height of the financial crisis which was triggered by high oil prices. In that year the US government forced GM – as a condition of its bail-out - to dump the Pontiac brand, for which Holden's VE Commodore SS was planned to play a major role. Local production of the Cruze came too late. So we have peak oil ignorance being punished all the way to the very end – without any chance for a transition to e.g.
