We had sadly lost our Jack Russell a few months earlier in a road accident so we were feeling that gaping hole in our home, until Paul handed us a white Jack Russell/ Staffie cross. Her name came about as we were taking her for a walk to see if she was happy with us; Paul, who has a dog called Bullseye, starting reciting the entire musical Oliver! as he often does (trust me), so it was obvious that if he had a Bullseye, we should have a Nancy. We have always been open to having more than one rescue dog. When we had to move to Cardiff for my work on , as a seducer to the boys we said once we’d settled, we would get them Huskies. Seven-year old animal lover Mim Asker wanted to do something extra special for her birthday and had the idea of asking for presents for our animals. Her family and friends were very generous and Mim came in to our London centre at the end of June with her parents and big sister Hattie, laden with bags full of treats! Flynn the Labrador was 11 years old when his owner brought him into Battersea, as he was increasingly working away from home. Flynn’s initial assessments revealed him to be a sweet-natured and very easy going older gentleman who would be an ideal family pet. However, Pam Stock and Claire Wells from The Collett School in Hertfordshire were looking for something a bit more extraordinary than a family pet: they were hoping to meet a dog who could live with them but spend each day at the school they both teach in for children with moderate to complex learning difficulties. The Collett School first got in touch with Battersea six months previously and
