Eight species are recorded for the first time; 3 species were mentioned by name only (but not discussed) in the article by Barash & Danin (1982: 107) and 18 species have been dealt with in articles on individual Indo-Pacific immigrants. Along with the 29 species not yet discussed in earher reports, 4 species, which have been treated pre- viously are included in this paper for supplementary data (see general remarks, p. 130ff.). This report is based on material obtained from various sources, as follows: A great deal of dredging was carried out during 1974-1977 by the late Prof. Ch. Lewinsohn (Tel Aviv University) and his assistants M. Tom and B. Galil. They worked in the infralittoral zone in north and south Israel and opposite the Mediterranean coast of north Sinai. Among the material coUected by them the nudibranch Plocamopherus ocellatus is noteworthy because of its power of luminescence (O'Do- NOGHUE 1929: 808). -

For this purpose, the material collected from the area between the years 2005 and 2009, within the framework of different projects, was investigated. The investigation of the material taken from various biotopes ranging at depths between 0 and 100 m resulted in identification of 286 mollusc species and 27542 specimens belonging to them. Among the encountered species, Vitreolina cf. perminima (Jeffreys, 1883) is new record for the Turkish molluscan fauna and 18 species are being new records for the Turkish Levantine coast. A checklist of Iskenderun mollusc fauna is given based on the present study and the studies carried out beforehand, and a total of 424 moluscan species are known to be distributed in Iskenderun Bay. THE EFFECT OF THE ECfOPARASITIC PYRAMIDELLID SNAIL, BOONEA IMPRESSA, ON THE GROWTH AND HEALTH OF OYSTERS, CRASSOSTREA VIRGINICA, UNDER FIELD CONDITIONS ELIZABETH A. WILSON,' ERIC N. POWELL,' AND SAMMY M. RAY· ABSTRACT BOfYMQ. (= Odostomia) impressa are contagiously distributed on oyster reefs so that some oysters are parasitized more than others. The parasite's mobility and the ability of oysters to recover from snail parasitism may be important in assessing the impact ofparasitism on oyster populations. Duringa 4-week exposure period in the field, B. impressa reduced American oyster, CrasS08trea virgillica, growth rate and increased the intensity ofinfection by the protozoan, Perki71/J'U8 (- Dermoeystidium) marillUB, but produced few changes in the oyster's biochemical composition because. although net productivity was reduced, the oysters retained a net positive energy balance (assimilation> respiration). During a 4-week recovery period, growth rate returned to normal (control) levels, but infection by P. marillUB continued to intensify in previously parasitized oysters kept B. impressa-free. Most changes in biochemical com position during recovery, including increased lipid and glycogen contents, could be attributed to the con tinuing increase in infection intensity of P. marillUB. Consequently, the temporal stability and size of snail patches. particularly as they regulate infection by P. marillUB, may be the most important factors influencing the impact of B. impressa on oyster reefs. Parasitism can be an important factor affecting the abundantly on oyster reefs from Massachusetts to population dynamics (Wickham 1986; Brown and the Gulf of Mexico, B. impressa has been reported Brown 1986; Kabat 1986) and health (Brockelman in numbers as high as 100 per oyster (Hopkins 1956). -

Twenty-one species are recognised: 13 are described as new: Brachystomia cantaurana nov. sp., Goniodostomia bicarinata nov. sp., Iolaea miocenica nov. sp., Chrysallida cantaurana nov. sp., Kleinella pumila nov. sp., Parthenina martae nov. sp., Ividella guppyi nov. sp., Chemnitzia macsotayi nov. sp., Turbonilla paraguanensis nov. sp., Pyrgiscus caribbaeus nov. sp., Pyrgiscus silvai nov. sp., Eulimella dianeae nov. sp. and Iselica belliata nov. sp., three are left in open nomenclature. The state of knowledge of tropical American Neogene pyramidellids is rudimentary, but the assemblage is fairly typical at generic level to that of the tropical American Neogene today, with some species suggesting closer affinities with tropical American Pacific taxa. NEMOURIA Occasional Papers of the Delaware Museum of Natural History NUMBER 39 SEPTEMBER 30, 1991 JOHANNES THIELE AND HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO ZOOLOGY. PART 2. GENUS-GROUP NAMES (MOLLUSCA) Kenneth J. Boss 1 and Rudiger Bieler2 ABSTRACT. This is the second part of a series on the German zoologist Johannes Thiele (1860-1935) and comprises a critical listing of the genus-group taxa which he described as new to malacology. Each of these names is accompanied by author and bibliographic references, original status, type-species with its original binominal spelling and bibliographic source and some data on subsequent taxonomic placements. Thiele introduced a total of 291 such names in the Phylum Mollusca, distributed as follows: 11 Aplacophora; 39 Polyplacophora; 200 Gastropoda (138 Prosobranchia; 20 Opisthobranchia and 42 Pulmonata); 31 Bivalvia; 10 Cephalopoda; there were no new scaphopod or monoplacophoran names. Of these, later authors recognized as valid 85 at the generic level, 110 at the subgeneric level; 71 are considered to be synonyms, and the remaining 25 are unjustified emendations or errors. INTRODUCTION As part of a series on the scientific contributions of Johannes Thiele, the eminent German zoologist, we provide here an alphabetical listing and analysis of all the genus-group taxa introduced by him in his publications on mollusks as delineated by Bieler & Boss (1989).
