Chu for her tireless efforts in providing all the support, emotional as well as financial, necessary to complete my dissertation. Her energy and perserverance will always be a source of inspiration for me in all my future endeavors. I would also like to thank the rest of my committee: Dr. Roger Mann for his insights in oyster biology, Dr. Robert Diaz for his help in experimental design and statistics, Dr. Sandra S.Shumway for her helpful comments during the whole lengthy process of writing this dissertation, and Dr. Jeffrey D. I would also like to thank Dr. David Evans who served as my moderator for both my qualifying exam and my dissertation defense. Thanks to Dr. Michael Newman for assistance with survival analyses.
