By focusing on economic growth, protectionism, and trade, they surpass hegemonic stability Andrew Flory. Even some of the selected British recordings raise the eyebrow. INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of the original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand marking: or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1.The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.

In my heart your memory lingers, Just a memory fond and true Always tender, fond and true; To show, dear mother, we think of you. There’s not a day, dear mother, 13. A loving mother, so gentle and kind, I do not think of you. What a wonderful memory she left behind. 3. We are sad within our memory, Long days, long nights, she bore her pain. Lonely are our hearts today; To wait for cure, but all in vain. For the one we loved so dearly Till God Himself knew what was best Has forever been called away. He took her home and gave her rest. We think of her in silence, 14. God saw the road was getting rough No eye may see us weep; And the hills were hard to climb, But many silent tears are shed So He closed your weary eyelids When others are asleep.

We knew only that they were different, to be feared, and in that fear was included the hostility of the powerless against the powerful, the poor against the rich, the worker against the employer; and the poorly dressed against the well dressed. This is Stamps, a small town in Arkansas, in the United States, in the 1930s. The population is almost evenly divided between black and white and totally divided by where and how they live. As Maya Angelou says, there is very little contact between the two races. Their houses are in different parts of town and they go to different schools, colleges, stores, and places of entertainment. When they travel, they sit in separate parts of buses and trains. After the American Civil War (1861—65), slavery was ended in the defeated Southern states, and many changes were made by the national government to give black people more rights.

Department of Music Stony Brook University The Revolution guitarist Wendy Melvoin Department of Music Stony Brook University Rock, pop music, and society MUS 109 (86275) Fall 2018 This course is a (mostly) chronological survey of the musicians, producers, albums, concerts, genres, instruments, publications, substances, sounds, arguments, and ideas crucial to the past seven decades of rock and pop music. We will examine a musical form vital to twentieth-century artistic innovation, grappling with questions of race, gender, sexuality, and political change along the way. In addition to readings, you will listen carefully to important pieces of music, exploring them formally and historically. Each week, you’ll read a mixture of autobiography, music journalism, interviews, social criticism, and more. You will listen to music, and sometimes view a documentary or video. Several short response essays throughout the semester will allow you to flex your critical and argumentative muscles. By the end of the semester, you will possess an expanded musical vocabulary and a deep knowledge of an important branch of musical history. • In-Memoriam Verses
    1. 6. She’s gone from earth’s toil No prouder parents than we were, To her heavenly rest, Nor with greater right to pride, To be home for all time Till our dear son, scarce grown a man, In the dear Saviour’s breast; Who fought and bled and died, And there when our sun, That freedom and the rights of men Sinks low in the sky, Might have in peace, new birth. God grant that we meet Then ere he’d time to see it come, In the sweet bye and bye. Departed from the earth. 2. 7. If there could be more bitter pain We bade him a last and fond farewell, That hearts could suffer here, Ere his ship put out to sea; Than losing our beloved one – And whispered our prayers ‘Twould be ne’er having known you, dear. For his safe return, But it wasn’t meant to be. 3. For God in His infinite wisdom, Saw fit to ignore our prayer Sleep on our beloved, And took him instead to heaven While years come and go; To rest and await us there. Each brings us but closer to you And the day we shall meet 8. In the bright afterglow, When our life’s lonely journey is through. Ever loving, ever true, To the task God set of you; 4. Mother dear, He knew ‘twas done, So called you home, our dearest one. The hungry years have bitten deep Into the cheeks you found so fair; 9. And the frost of many winters gleams In silvered lacings through my hair; Though pain be our constant companion, Yet while awaiting the call up yonder, And missing you darkens our life; Where we’ll meet at last once more – There’s comfort in knowing you’re happy, I know you’ll recognize me darling, Dear Mother, and dearly loved wife.
