    2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships January 11-21, 2021 Las Vegas | The Orleans Arena Media Information and Story Ideas The U.S. Figure Skating Championships, held annually since 1914, is the nation’s most prestigious figure skating event. The competition crowns U.S. champions in ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dance at the senior and junior levels. The 2021 U.S. Championships will serve as the final qualifying event prior to selecting and announcing the U.S. World Figure Skating Team that will represent Team USA at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm. The marquee event was relocated from San Jose, California, to Las Vegas late in the fall due to COVID-19 considerations. San Jose meanwhile was awarded the 2023 Toyota U.S. Championships, marking the fourth time that the city will host the event. Competition and practice for the junior and Championship competitions will be held at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The event will take place in a bubble format with no spectators. Las Vegas, Nevada This is the first time the U.S. Championships will be held in Las Vegas. The entertainment capital of the world most recently hosted 2020 Guaranteed Rate Skate America and 2019 Skate America presented by American Cruise Lines. The Orleans Arena The Orleans Arena is one of the nation’s leading mid-size arenas. It is located at The Orleans Hotel and Casino and is operated by Coast Casinos, a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming Corporation. Born and raised in Toronto, David’s competitive career was cut short and redirected by injury. He toured for five years as a chorus and featured performer with Ice Capades, and then he set out to explore the art of choreography on ice. His early work with professionals such as World Champion and two-time Olympic Silver Medallist, Brian Orser, launched him as an unstoppable creative force. By 2007 his versatility produced a rare clean sweep when he created the winning programs for each senior event at the Canadian Championships - Ladies, Men, Pairs and Dance. In 2009 David was honoured with the PSA Paul McGrath Choreography Award. Today, David’s reach is global. On the competitive stage his signature pieces evoke distinct images. Joannie Rochette’s spirited Firebird. Sasha Cohen’s passionate Romeo and Juliet with which she won a silver medal at the 2006 Olympic Games.     Karl Hugo’s Story Karl Hugo is a prolific pianist, singer and composer whose works are aired in over 100 countries throughout the world on prestigious networks such as ABC, BBC One, CBC, Disney Channel, Disney Channel Asia, Fox Japan, Indosiar, MediaCorp Channels 5 & 8, Telemundo, TF1, Zee Café India and on many airlines. Karl began playing and composing on the piano as a child, creating his first concerto when he was barely a teenager. During this period, he won several prizes and awards including a 1st prize in the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations Music Writing Competition and completed music commissions for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and ICI Radio-Canada Télé (CBC). He studied piano with the great piano teacher Lucille Brassard, composition with André Prévost and orchestration with Alan Belkin. Karl completed his musical education with classical singing, violin, bassoon and orchestral conducting under renowned maestro Alexander Brott. In 1992, Karl realised that he no longer wanted to restrict himself to classical music and released a popular piano album entitled Momentum. He then met Ice Capades star Julie Brault with whom he filmed Broadway, an ambitious video combining piano and figure skating.
