QUEENS SUMMER DEBATE INSTITUTE AND SUMMER DEBATE SEASON ENDS! SCHOOL YEAR DEBATE SEASON BEGINS!
This week we celebrate the end of the summer debate season! From the first day of summer to the last day of summer, hundreds of NYC youth participated in summer debate institutes throughout the boroughs - the Harlem Debate Institute, the Manhattan Debate Institute, the Varsity Debate Institute, the Brooklyn Debate Institute, the MSQI Brooklyn Debate Institute, and the Queens Debate Institute. We would like to thank all our students, parents, teachers, volunteers, sponsors, and all supporters who made all these programs possible. Our last debate institute culminated with a visit by City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley to Maspeth High School! Thank you Council Member Crowley and Maspeth High School for making the Queens Summer Debate Institute possible and thank you for making the Queens Debate League possible!

SEPTEMBER 2ND MASPETH HIGH SCHOOL'S CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM FEATURED IN THE QUEENS CHRONICLE!

Senior Arielle Gallegos says, "Debate helped me to become very confident and skilled with public speaking," and senior Rocky Sanabria says, "Competing in debate tournaments helped me to understand popular issues and current events on a much more nuanced and academic level." This past school year, Maspeth's Victoria Panata and Arielle Gallegos won the 2015 Citi Foundation HS Championships in Public Forum and went on to compete in the prestigious National Debate Coaches Association (NDCA) National Championships held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jordy Portugal, a seasoned UDL Public Forum debater and Maspeth's Debate Team Captain, graduated high school with an admission and full scholarship to Columbia University; he attributes much of his acceptance to his history in debate. SEPTEMBER 3RD QUEENS SUMMER DEBATE INSTITUTE AND QUEENS DEBATE LEAGUE IN THE NEWS!
The Queens Summer Debate Institute was our last camp of the summer at Maspeth High School. Thank you to Council Member Crowley for making this possible. "The community is so proud to have a first class debate team right here at Maspeth High School, and I enjoy seeing the team share their talents with other youth in New York City," City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley stated. SEPTEMBER 3RD BROOKLYN DEBATE LEAGUE IN THE NEWS!
"The skills you build in a debate program really help foster a sense of community, said Principal Honoroff. "We want debate to be a central part of the change we're initiating at the school, and we want to grow our team, and have them compete at the national level." This is the second year of the Manhattan Debate Center and Manhattan Debate Club. The Club meets nearly every Saturday from 11:00am-1:00pm and competes at tournaments. SEPTEMBER 19TH NYC MIDDLE SCHOOL DEBATERS ON FOX NEWS AGAIN!
During our summer debate season, NYCUDL middle school debaters were invited to Fox News' Greg Gutfeld Show to comment on the first NYC Debaters on Fox News! Republican Presidential Debate! Click here for the video! Our students had an exemplary performance and the episode was one of the highest viewed and so our debaters were invited back to analyze the second Republican Presidential Debate! The second Republican Presidential Debate is scheduled for September 16th at 6:00pm and 9:00pm. Our debaters will be featured on Fox News on Saturday, September 19th! Participating schools include North Star Academy, Hunters Point Community Middle School, PS 161 and Harlem Success Academies. Good luck everyone!
SEPTEMBER 19TH YALE UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT!
While our middle school debaters will be on Fox News, our high school debaters will be at Yale University in the Travel Team's first tournament! Each year New York City urban debaters have won top awards at the tournament! Several of our alumni are now Yale University students and will be helping to host our debaters! SEPTEMBER 26TH FIRST MIDDLE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR
Our first middle school tournament of the year is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th for the debate events of public forum debate and policy debate! Middle School Policy Debate Resolution (2015-2016) Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially curtail its domestic surveillance.

On Saturday, October 3rd the Bronx High School of Science will host the NYCUDL Season Opener Workshop! This will be for all grade levels and all debate events! Registration will be online soon! NYC Debate Clubs meet Saturday, Thursdays, and Wednesdays during the Fall and Spring Semesters for practices and debate tournaments. The Debate Club is open to all grade levels - elementary school, middle school, and high school. The Debate Club is open to all grade levels - beginners, intermediate and advanced. Our students have won local, city, regional and national tournaments. Our instructors are among the top debaters and coaches in the city. We are so excited to announce the grand opening of our Harlem Debate Center at Columbia University. The Harlem Debate Center will be opening its doors every Thursday from 4:00pm-6:00pm and competing in monthly tournaments.
