Season dedicated to KB4 TLU lost former All-Conference third baseman Keaton Bohrmann in a car crash Riley in October of 2017. He played for TLU for Schaefer four seasons and was an All-Conference selection three times. He played on the 2013 NCAA DIII Regional team and was an integral part of the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 squads. Keaton died on the Texas Gulf Coast while in the area to help Port Aransas, Texas and the surrounding com- munities in hurricane recovery and relief. (The crash was a single-car wreck that was unrelated to his relief work.) Bohrmann was extremely well-liked and well-loved, and many of the players on this team either played with him or knew him well. The team has dedicated its 2018 season to Keaton and to the Bohrmann family. KB4 is written on many things associated with the team. KB4 appears on helmets and gloves (fielding and batting) and in the dirt near home plate and near on-deck circles. #KB4 is used in our baseball social media posts. No. 4 was the number worn by Keaton at TLU. It was fitting that the game-winning hit that sent TLU to the World Series was de- livered by another Keaton, Keaton Boysen, and that the winning run was scored by a person that knew Keaton Bohrmann well, Centenary en route to the conference title.

  • Heroes and Rallies Baseball
Heroes and Rallies Baseball Setup Pick two teams to go head to head, and fill out your lineups on the scoresheet. Each team receives 8 skill assignments to give to individual players. All of the skill assignments listed below must be used within your starting lineup for a total of 8. A player may possess two assignments if you wish. Rate your lineup by placing the appropriate notation beside a player’s name on the scoresheet. 1) star hitter (H) 2) star slugger (S) 3) star runner (R) 4) star fielder (F) 5) poor hitter (H-) 6) weak hitter (S-) 7) slow runner (R-) 8) poor fielder (F-) Once a player has a skill assignment, he cannot transfer it to another player. There is one additional skill assignment available for an ace pitcher (X). You may, however, choose not to start one. Make any pitcher a poor hitter as well (H-), so there will be two poor hitters if a pitcher is in the lineup. Game Play Roll the dice for each player who comes up to bat, reading the colored die first and the white die second. If a result occurs on the Batting chart which displays an image of a ballplayer, the inning is considered finished with no further scoring. Draw an X in the box on the scoresheet representing the current hitter’s at-bat. When his team next comes up to bat, the next player in the lineup will hit. If the color of a chart result corresponds to the color of the skill assignment of the player who is currently up to bat, the result changes to the one shown on the bottom of the Batting chart.

I lusted after the various sports games advertised in the magazines until my mom finally relented and bought Strat-O-Matic Football for me in 1972. I got SOM’s baseball game a year later and I was hooked. I would get the new card set each year and attempt to play the in-progress season by moving the traded players around and turning ‘nameless player cards” into that year’s key rookies. I switched to APBA in the late ‘70’s because they started releasing some complete old season sets and the idea of playing with those really caught my fancy. Between then and the mid-nineties, I collected a lot of card sets.

  • Sliding for Home: the Rhetorical Resurgence of Pete Rose
1 Sliding for Home: The Rhetorical Resurgence of Pete Rose All-time hits leader Pete Rose’s strategy for breaking back into baseball flies in the face of accepted rhetorical theories—and it seems to be working. That success tells us as much about today’s fragmented popular culture as it does about “Charlie Hustle’s” determination to return to the game. by Todd McDorman Jim Gray:Pete, now let me ask you. It seems as though there is an opening, the American public is very forgiving. Are you willing to show contrition, admit that you bet on baseball and make some sort of apology to that effect? Pete Rose: Not at all, Jim. I’m not going to admit to something that didn’t happen. I know you’re getting tired of hearing me say that. Banished in 1989 for allegedly betting on baseball, Pete Rose, the sport’s all-time hits leader, returned to the game for one spectacular evening on October 25, 1999 as baseball honored its “All-Century” team prior to Game Two of the World Series. Upon his introduction as the final outfielder on the team, Rose received a 55- second standing ovation from the Turner Field crowd in Atlanta—15 seconds longer than the next most appreciative response for hometown hero and all-time homerun king Hank Aaron. Immediately following the presentation, Rose conducted an on-field interview with NBC’s investigative sports journalist Jim Gray. Known for his cutting and sometimes insensitive questions, Gray repeatedly pressed Rose to admit that he had gambled on baseball, a charge he has always denied.
