2019-04-26 10:00 CEST Opeth bringer deres utroligt smukke musik til Det Kgl. Teater til november OPETH DET KGL. TEATER, GAMLE SCENE 17. NOVEMBER 2019 Svenske Opeth bringer deres stemningsfulde progressive metal til en af Danmarks smukkeste koncertsale. Således skrev vi i 2016, da de besøgte DR Koncertsalen. Det bliver bestemt ikke mindre smukt denne gang, for søndag 17. november kan man opleve dem på Det Kongelige Teaters Gamle Scene. Opeth er en foranderlig størrelse. Ved dannelsen i 1990 havde de ellers som ambition at blive verdens ondeste band, men udviklede sig fra at være et regulært dødsmetalband til at få en helt unik position på metalscenen, hvor de henter inspiration fra andre genrer. Guitarist og sanger Mikael Åkerfeldt forklarer: I can only talk from my perspective and taste here, but we offer diversity that’s not really present in the scene today. Whatever genre. We’ve always been a special band. We’ve gotten a lot of shit for being different. We still do. Our time will come, I think. It comes down to perseverance. It comes down to not giving up or giving in to public opinion. Music is about doing your own thing or going your own way. Opeth fik i 2003, efter 13 år i undergrunden det store kommercielle gennembrud med albummet ”Damnation”, og kunne i 2015 fejre deres 25 års jubilæum med en Europa-tour der ikke bragte dem til Danmark. Det gjorde de som tidligere nævnt i 2016,- en koncert som heavymetal tildelte 9 af 10 stjerner. Vi ser derfor denne gang frem til en helt speciel aften i Det Kongelige Teater, hvor Opeths yderst lytterkrævende og samtidig utroligt smukke musik, kan udspilles side om side med de fantastiske visuelle og lydmæssige rammer. Opeth – Sorceress (56:36, CD, Moderbolaget/Nuclear Blast/Warner, 2016) Old School-Fans, die Opeth auf Growls und Death Metal reduzieren, werden mit dem dritten „Just clean vocals“- Album in Folge erneut Schwierigkeiten haben und also weiterhin nur noch bei Konzerten bedient. Wer aber bereits zwischen „Heritage“ und “ Pale Communion“ eine deutliche Steigerung und Weiterentwicklung wahrgenommen hat und sich vielleicht für die Ausrichtung von Songs wie ‚Faith In Others‘ besonders erwärmen kann, wird diesem Zauber nun komplett verfallen. Obwohl kein wirkliches Konzeptalbum ist bei allem Abwechslungs- und Ideenreichtum doch eine deutliche atmosphärische Geschlossenheit spürbar – sowohl was musikalische wie textliche Themen angeht (vgl. dazu auch den Interview-Link bei den Surftipps unten). „Sorceress“ gelingt der Trick, den Eindruck von kompakter Zusammengehörigkeit, den „Heritage“ vermittelt, mit stärker anhaftenden, ohrwurmigeren Melodien wie bei „Pale Communion“ zu kombinieren. Akustische Gitarren und analoge Keyboardsounds sind nochmals wichtiger geworden – vgl. etwa die Ouvertüre ‚Persephone‘, das Album-Finale ‚Persephone (Slight Return)‘, oder das nach einem heftig zerrenden E-Piano-Intro in Midtempo majestätisch losrockende ‚Sorceress‘. Opeth – Deliverance & Damnation (Bookset) (61:52, 43:24, „Buchset“ 2CD/2DVD, Music For Nations/Sony, 2015) Jetzt dröhnt und tönt zusammen, was zusammengehört! Wir erinnern uns: Die ungleichen Geschwister „Deliverance“ und „Damnation“ hatten in den Jahren 2002 und 2003 auf Wunsch der ursprünglichen Plattenfirma zwar getrennt das Licht der Plattenläden erblickt, waren aber von Opeth „gemeinsam“ konzipiert, von Mikael Åkerfeldt geschrieben und – mit Steven Wilson als Co-Produzent sowie Hintergrundgesang, Mellotron u. a. Keyboards – auch eingespielt worden. Mikael hatte zunächst ausdrücklich ein Doppelalbum im Sinn gehabt. Beide Alben sind denn auch seiner Großmutter gewidmet, die während der Aufnahmen bei einem Autounfall starb. Im Jahr des 25-jährigen Bestehens der Band veröffentlicht Music For Nations nun beide Alben als wiedervereinigtes Werk in zwei leckeren Konfigurationen. Zur Besprechung liegt uns das bildschöne 4-Disc-Buchset mit neuem Stereomix und zusätzlichen 5.1 Mixen vor. Der 5.1 Surround-Mix für „Damnation“ wurde von Steven Wilson besorgt, der von „Deliverance“ seitens Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief, Katatonia, Wisdom Of Crowds). Mikael dazu: „Es war pure Spannung, als ich mir die einzelnen Tracks angehört und sie wiederentdeckt habe. Besonders beeindruckt bin ich vom Sound der Drums von Martin Lopez, und gleichzeitig total baff, wie abgefahren und außergewöhnlich das Album ist.“ Man sieht schon – es gibt also auch Liner Notes vom Opeth-Boss Mikael. Und von Jerry Ewing vom Prog Magazin (der den Einfluss von Katatonias Jonas Renske betont). Und es gibt ein von Travis Smith für das Buch nochmals geschmackvoll-düster überarbeitetes Artwork! Oui, Opeth et Anathema assument cela fait déjà 50 ans que les Scorpions, groupe teutonique s’il est, écument la planète rock. Reconnus sur les cinq continents – une performance rarement égalée dans le milieu –, ils avaient pourtant décidé de faire une tournée d’adieux. Vu son succès, ces vieux baroudeurs ont choisi de LAURENT KLEISL remettre ça. Sur la route comme sur disque, puisqu’ils viennent de commettre un nouvel album. Late 1960's - Early 1970's The birth of heavy metal. Groups like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were the first heavy metal bands. Late 1970's The rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest become very popular. 1978 Van Halen released their debut album. This began the Los Angeles/Sunset Strip scene, and many bands would come out of this era, including Motley Crue and Quiet Riot. The so called "hair bands" like Poison, Warrant and Ratt came from that scene as well. The Who's Keith Moon died. Bands formed this year: Dokken, Ratt, Whitesnake A sample of heavy metal albums released in 1978: Black Sabbath - Never Say Die Judas Priest - Stained Class UFO - Obsession 1979 The German band Accept releases their self-titled debut album. They are considered to be the first European power metal band. Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. But I’ve heard music that makes you think that the end of the world is like, right now. This release reminds me a lot of Devin Townsend Project stuff. There are some real prog touches in here, mixed with some heavier, metal type music, and some flat out death metal vocals at times.
