A Love Offering will be accepted on behalf of the ministry of the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal (CCCR) Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD Dan Dúet Director Asst. Director

WASHING OF THE HANDS MASS, DECEMBER 1, 2018 Every year the Charismatic Center (CCCR) and all our associated groups come together to offer our service to the Lord for the new Church Year at our bilingual Washing of the Hands Mass. We have our hands washed as a sign of our commitment to be servants of the Lord and the Holy Spirit. Usually this is the first Saturday of Advent. This year it falls on The Feast of the (December 8) when the Churches are not available. We have moved up our celebration to December 1 which is the Saturday the day before Advent starts:

December 1 at 10:00am at St. Henry Church, followed by a social in the St. Henry Cafeteria

All the members of our Spanish and English prayer groups are encouraged to come as we pray for a new anointing of the Holy Spirit for the new Church Year. Please encourage your members to come. Our unity can lead to a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit as we prepare for our March 1-2, 2019 Conference on the theme, Miracles Never Ending. You will be able to pick up posters and registration forms for the March conference at the social after the Mass. You will also hear more about the coming conference at the Mass. Hope to see you there.

I am grateful for all those who helped with three recent fund raisers for the Center. The Spanish Service Committee hosted a dinner and concert at St Henry Hall. Barca San Pedro also hosted a dinner and concert at St. Henry’s Hall. Thirdly, we had our Pray, Shop, Eat event. Thanks to all!

CCCR Monthly Teaching:- October

A BALANCED APPROACH TO LIVING AND MINISTERING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT:

Ways That People Can Become Unbalanced?

The CCCR offers a teaching every month with few exceptions. This past month was a good look at establishing a balance in our spiritual journey in the Holy Spirit. The teaching was for anyone who wanted to grow in the wisdom and strength to lvie a full a balanced approach to both living and ministering in the Holy Spirit.

Presented by Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD, the teaching was a great help for us to grow in maturity in the Holy Spirit. He covered four primary areas: 1 - Establishing a balance between: Prayer Life, Ministry, and Family/Community 2 - Seven steps to a balanced approach to Prayer Ministry: - Listening with compassion and discernment for evaluation and wisdom - Faith and evangelization - Repentence and forgiveness - Healing (emotions, memories, thinking) - Deliverance - Empowerment with the Holy Spirit - Ministry under authority and understanding one’s limits 3 - Balancing service and holiness. 4 - The Serenity Prayer as an example of how to balance one’s approach to “action” and “waiting on the Lord”.

This was a very practical teaching that allowed for immediate application. Thank you to Fr. Bob and to all who were gathered. Come, Holy Spirit!

(LEFT) Despite the seats in the front row being empty - we ARE good Catholics, aren’t we, LOL - there were approximately 70 people in attendance!

The Prayer Group at Prince of Peace just hosted a very successful one-day ‘Life in the Spirit Seminar’ on October 13, with 65 people in attendance. (RIGHT) Guest speaker Mario Ortiz from Holy Family in New Braunfels.

Time for Testimony!

I was on September 30th of 2011 when I brought my husband to the prayer group “The Miracle Hour.” We had been married for 7 years that date. He was very ill; was not able to eat unaided and could not sleep. I had to feed him in the mouth and stay awake with him during the nights. His illness was a tremendous emotional load for me and I got very depressed. Thanks to the prayers from our group members, God healed my husband and we continue to be part of this prayer group. Blessed be God forever. His mercy has no boundaries, and we will forever praise him with thanksgiving.

November 2018 - Page 4 Back to the Basics

There continues to be very positive feedback regarding this idea of getting ’Back to the Basics’ with the installments of Fr. Bob’s teachings, “Explaining Catholic Charismatic Renewal” and “The Full Role of the Holy Spirit”. What other topics would you like to see in an upcoming Charisletter? Just let me know by sending an email to: [email protected]. - Dan Dúet, Asst. Director

(This is the second of 2 parts: “The Full Role of the Holy Spirit”, Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD)

The Full Role of the Holy Spirit (continued)

Building Communities That Witness to a Renewed Catholic Life At the very beginning of his ministry forms a community of followers (12 apostles, 72 disciples, a group of women who traveled with him, 120 gathered in the upper room before Pentecost). The God of Israel had always made covenants with his people, saying that he would be their God, if they would be his people. Jesus tells us that where two or three are gathered in his name he is in their midst. We have amazing descriptions of the strong community life of the Jerusalem Church (Acts 2:42-47; 4:23-36). St. Paul describes the church as the body of Christ. We are parts of one another. The charisms are given for building up the body of Christ, the Church. As we heard from Steve Clark, “It (the Holy Spirit) was given so that God could have a people who were in effective covenant relationship with him.” The fullness of union with God happens within a community of believers. The fullness of transformation in the Spirit happens within a community of believers. The fullness of charisms and ministry happens within a community of believers. Community is essential for the full working of the Holy Spirit. In communities we develop a renewed Catholic lifestyle that is not the same as our secular culture. Our communal witness of a renewed Catholic lifestyle is meant to affect our whole society and culture.

What Does This Mean for Leadership in Catholic Charismatic Renewal? We started by asking, “What is the charism of the charismatic renewal?” I have suggested that our charism is centered in “the full role of the Spirit” with its four major dimensions. Charismatic Renewal is strongest when we are seeking to live all four of these aspects of the Spirit’s work; when we are “encouraging the awareness and experience of the full role of the Holy Spirit among Catholic Charismatic Renewal groups and ministries, with the goal of reminding the Church to be fully conscious of this role” (NSC Mission Statement). As leaders we seek:

1) To be fully aware (conscious) of the charism that has been bestowed on us by reflecting, praying and pondering the full role of the Spirit.

2) To discern with our core groups how we are growing in all four dimensions of the Holy Spirit’s work. Are we leaving out one or more of the dimensions?

3) To share regularly with our groups the vision of the full role of the Spirit, so that members understand the importance of growing in all four areas; are fully conscious of this role; and can explain to those outside the movement what the charism of the “full role of the Spirit” means for us and for the whole church.

4) To help our groups to understand their role of being “reminders” for the church of the importance of the role of the Holy Spirit. We are not the only ones who have the Holy Spirit, but we have been giving the calling and charism to remind the church to be fully conscious of the Spirit’s importance and role in every aspect of Catholic life and ministry.

5) To pray with our groups for an increase of the Holy Spirit in each of the four dimensions.

May each of us, and our Renewal Movement, continue to learn to live by the Spirit; be guided by the Spirit; live in the Spirit; and follow the Spirit (Gal 5:16, 18, 25) into the fullness of life he has for us and for the Church.

November 2018 - Page 5 YOU are making a difference: New Windows Update!!!

Say “goodbye” to these… And “HELLLLOOO” to these:

Thank you to all of the Prayer Group and Individual Sponsors who have contributed to the new windows project for the CCCR building. While we still need more PGs to participate and consider sponsoring a window for $500, your support so far has inspired us to take a step of faith and we are now scheduled to have all 36 windows in the building changed out between Christmas and New Year’s! The windows will be double-pane, provide insulation, and new window frames as well. We are also looking into a possible rebate from CPS. In addition to the new windows, we renovated both bathrooms last year and are currently preparing for a complete renovation of our Chapel. To that end, the Chapel will be closed from November 2 through the 18th.

We could not do this without YOUR support!! Thank you!!
