Charisletter NOVEMBER 2018 Volume 18 Issue 9 A Love Offering will be accepted on behalf of the ministry of the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal (CCCR) Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD Dan Dúet Director Asst. Director WASHING OF THE HANDS MASS, DECEMBER 1, 2018 Every year the Charismatic Center (CCCR) and all our associated groups come together to offer our service to the Lord for the new Church Year at our bilingual Washing of the Hands Mass. We have our hands washed as a sign of our commitment to be servants of the Lord and the Holy Spirit. Usually this is the first Saturday of Advent. This year it falls on The Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8) when the Churches are not available. We have moved up our celebration to December 1 which is the Saturday the day before Advent starts: December 1 at 10:00am at St. Henry Church, followed by a social in the St. Henry Cafeteria All the members of our Spanish and English prayer groups are encouraged to come as we pray for a new anointing of the Holy Spirit for the new Church Year. Please encourage your members to come. Our unity can lead to a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit as we prepare for our March 1-2, 2019 Conference on the theme, Miracles Never Ending. You will be able to pick up posters and registration forms for the March conference at the social after the Mass. You will also hear more about the coming conference at the Mass. Hope to see you there. I am grateful for all those who helped with three recent fund raisers for the Center. The Spanish Service Committee hosted a dinner and concert at St Henry Hall. Barca San Pedro also hosted a dinner and concert at St. Henry’s Hall. Thirdly, we had our Pray, Shop, Eat event. Thanks to all! November 2018 - Page 2 CCCR Monthly Teaching:- October A BALANCED APPROACH TO LIVING AND MINISTERING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT: Ways That People Can Become Unbalanced? The CCCR offers a teaching every month with few exceptions. This past month was a good look at establishing a balance in our spiritual journey in the Holy Spirit. The teaching was for anyone who wanted to grow in the wisdom and strength to lvie a full a balanced approach to both living and ministering in the Holy Spirit. Presented by Fr. Bob Hogan, BBD, the teaching was a great help for us to grow in maturity in the Holy Spirit. He covered four primary areas: 1 - Establishing a balance between: Prayer Life, Ministry, and Family/Community 2 - Seven steps to a balanced approach to Prayer Ministry: - Listening with compassion and discernment for evaluation and wisdom - Faith and evangelization - Repentence and forgiveness - Healing (emotions, memories, thinking) - Deliverance - Empowerment with the Holy Spirit - Ministry under authority and understanding one’s limits 3 - Balancing service and holiness. 4 - The Serenity Prayer as an example of how to balance one’s approach to “action” and “waiting on the Lord”. This was a very practical teaching that allowed for immediate application. Thank you to Fr. Bob and to all who were gathered. Come, Holy Spirit! (LEFT) Despite the seats in the front row being empty - we ARE good Catholics, aren’t we, LOL - there were approximately 70 people in attendance! The Prayer Group at Prince of Peace just hosted a very successful one-day ‘Life in the Spirit Seminar’ on October 13, with 65 people in attendance. Time for Testimony! - María Reyes I was on September 30th of 2011 when I brought my husband to the prayer group “The Miracle Hour.” We had been married for 7 years that date. He was very ill; was not able to eat unaided and could not sleep. I had to feed him in the mouth and stay awake with him during the nights. His illness was a tremendous emotional load for me and I got very depressed. Thanks to the prayers from our group members, God healed my husband and we continue to be part of this prayer group. Blessed be God forever. His mercy has no boundaries, and we will forever praise him with thanksgiving. Bob Hogan, BBD) The Full Role of the Holy Spirit (continued) Building Communities That Witness to a Renewed Catholic Life At the very beginning of his ministry Jesus forms a community of followers (12 apostles, 72 disciples, a group of women who traveled with him, 120 gathered in the upper room before Pentecost). The God of Israel had always made covenants with his people, saying that he would be their God, if they would be his people. Jesus tells us that where two or three are gathered in his name he is in their midst.
