Simon Robertshaw, Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas, English Heritage, Letter 26 November 2013 We have commented previously (9 December 2013 and 9 January 2014) that the undulating and sloping site at Poulshot Lodge Farmis unsuitable for a large-scale ground-mounted solar array. As far as we can see from the new landscape section map and indicative layout map, the revised scheme has not, by any means, removed all panels from the higher parts of the site. Many will still stand prominently in views. We therefore contend that the revised proposal at Poulshot Lodge Farm would still, in terms from the GLVIA1,"introduce new, non-characteristic or discordant or intrusive elements into the view (6.44)", which would have alike ly significant impact on the landscape and landscape character, and on visual amenity. Judgement of the magnitude of the visual effectsof a proposal needs to take into accountthe degree or contrast or integration of any new features or changes in the landscape with the existing or remaining landscape elements and characteristics in terms of form, scale and mass, line, height, colour, and texture (GLVIA 6.39). The LVIA submitted originally, and the Assessment of Cumulative Landscape and Visual Effect (ACLVE) in the additional material substantially understate and undervalue the magnitude of the proposed development's landscape and visual impacts and effects.

    Quakers in the Diocese of Salisbury, 1783 Extracts from the written answers to the Visitation Queries of Bishop Shute Barrington on his primary visitation N the Salisbury Diocesan Archives (Diocesan Record Office, Wren Hall, The Close, Salisbury. Assistant Diocesan I Archivist: Miss Pamela Stewart) are three volumes of written returns to questions on the state of the church in the parishes of the diocese (the counties of Berkshire and Wilt­ shire), and the following short notes concerning Friends are reproduced here by kind permission of Mr. Alan Barker, the Diocesan Registrar. Shute Barrington (1734-1826), youngest son of the ist Viscount Barrington, was bishop successively of Llandaff (1769), Salisbury (1782), and Durham (1791). The answers of the clergy to the questions asked before his primary visita­ tion in the diocese of Salisbury in 1783 are the only records of this type for the eighteenth century which survive in the Diocesan Archives. The eighth question read as follows: Are there any Presbyterians, Independents, Anabaptists, or Quakers in your Parish, or Chapelry? and how many of each Sect? and of what Rank? Are there any other Places made use of for Divine Worship, than such as are used by the above-mentioned Sects? What are the Names of their Teachers, and are they all licenced as the Law directs? Is their Number greater or less of late Years than formerly, according to your Observation, and by what Means? Are there any Persons in your Parish, who profess to disregard Religion, or who commonly absent themselves from all public Worship of God? A glance through the answers reveals that the clergy were not all equally particular and specific in their answers to this question, so the following notes on Quakers cannot be taken as comprehensive evidence on the extent of Wiltshire Quarterly Meeting in 1783, but they have value as evidence of the Church of England's estimate of Quakerism in the district at that time.

J. Newell. 200#. A reappraisal of the stratigraphy and depositional development of the Upper Greensand (Late Albian) of the Devizes District, southern England. Proceedings of the Geologists’ Association, XXX. 000 - 000. Three members are recognised within the Upper Greensand Formation of the Devizes district on the basis of outcrop, newly acquired cored borehole and petrographical data. These are, in ascending stratigraphical order, Cann Sand Member, Potterne Sandstone Member and Easterton Sandstone Member. Compared to the imprecise historical subdivisions, the members provide a much clearer indication of lithological variation through the Upper Greensand, and this in turn provides clues to its depositional development. The biostratigraphy of each member has been determined using macrofossils and microfossils. The new biostratigraphical data clarifies the relationship of the Potterne Rock to the traditionally named 'Ragstone' which caps the Shaftesbury Sandstone in the Shaftesbury district, and suggests that the correlation of the Potterne Rock and 'Ragstone' is less straightforward than previously suggested. Whilst tectonic influences have been demonstrated to affect coeval strata in parts of the eastern Weald, these may not be the dominant control on the Devizes succession, which seems to be more strongly influenced by its palaeogeographical setting with respect to sediment source areas, and the effect this had on the volume and timing of sediment infill.

The Proposed Development of Poulshot Lodge Solar Park and the Amended Plans for this Application. I wish to object strongly to the development of the Solar Park in this location and the amended plans, with regard to the access for construction traffic from Devizes Road, opposite Poulshot Lodge Farm Shop. This is not acceptable. The access site proposed for the use by a large number of HGVs, will have a negative visual impact and pose a real threat to Poulshot and its residents. This narrow rural road with no pavement is the pedestrian route from the village to the bus stop on the A361; also parents walk along with pushchairs/prams, dog walkers and the elderly enjoying their customary stroll. It is evident that the development of a Solar Park in this locality will prevent the achievement of human activities of daily living and will have a disastrous effect on the people of Poulshot and beyond The development will generate an increased level of dust, noise, pollution and will be intrusive to the village, resulting in risk to the health of the people of Poulshot. The proposed access for operational and maintenance purposes through the very narrow Barley Hill Lane / Corn Close is totally unacceptable. I believe that the development of a Solar Park in this locality, to be very detrimental to Poulshot and its residents.
