In addition, enrollment trend data are included by sector for fall 1975 to fall 1985. Degree-credit enrollment data are provided for full- and part-time undergraduates, first-professional, graduate students, and for all students. This information is presented for specific colleges andfor the following institutional groupings: total state, total public, State University of New York, City University of New York, independent, proprietary, two-year, four-year and higher,and graduate only. Data are also provided for categories withinthe sector (e.g., university college, health science centers). The trend data cover the following institutional types: independent, proprietary, state university, city university, and totalstate. UNDERGRADUATE: Students enrolled in a four- or five -year bachelor's degree program, in an associate degree program, in a vocational or technical program that is normally terminal and results in formal recognition below the baccalaureate, or students who are not candidates for a degree or other formal award, although taking degree-credit courses designated by the institution as undergraduate level. FIRST-PROFESSIONAL: Students enrolled in a professional school or program which requires at least two academic years of college work for entrance and a total of at least six years for a degree.This category only includes students taking courses in the following first-professional degree programs: Dentistry (D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree), Medicine (M.D.degree), Optometry (0.D. degree), Osteopathic Medicine (D. 0. degree), Pharmacy (D. Phar. degree), Podiatry (Pod.D., D.P.) or Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) [include Chiropody], Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. degree), Chiropractic (D.C. or D.C.M. degree), Law (LL.B. or J.D. degree), and Theological Professions (B.D., M.Div.). GRADUATE: Students who hold the bachelor's or first-professional degree or equivalent and are enrolled in graduate level curricula which lead to a certificate, master's or doctoral degree, or students who are not candidates for a graduate degree or certificate but are taking degree-credit courses designated by the institution as graduate level. FULL-TIME: Those students whose academic load-course work or other required activity is at least 75 percent of the normal full-time load. Undergraduate students must carry at least 12 credit hours to be considered full-time, while graduate students must carry at least 9 credit hours. Graduate students enrolled in The City University of New York must carry at least 12 credit hours to be considered full-time. PART-TIME: Those students whose academic load-course work or other required activity is less than 75 percent of the normal full-time load. UNDERGRADUATE FIRST-TIME STUDENTS: Students who began their first academic year in a degree-granting institution after July 30, 1986 and are currently enrolled at the undergraduate level, either in a program or as an unclassified stvdent.
