3 Adult Day Health Program Transitions to The Community Family To the right, After 40 years of service to the Greater Lowell D’Youville’s Adult Community, D’Youville Life & Wellness Community Day Health Center closed our Adult Day Health program at the end of opens, circa 1977. Naomi Prendergast, D’Youville’s President and CEO and Anne Marchetta, Executive Director of Community Family announced the new partnership in mid-January. Adult day health care (“ADH”) is a structured program of health and supportive services designed to meet the individual needs of adults who need medical monitoring, supervision, personal assistance and socialization. Participants attend The Community Family’s (TCF) centers on a planned basis for two to five days a week, where they will receive the care they need. Some attend ADH programs for years, while others may attend for short-term support while transitioning back to their homes from hospitals or rehabilitation.

Adult day health care also provides much-needed respite for caregivers who get relief from their care giving responsibilities knowing that their loved one is safe and well cared for. Services provided include nursing care, activities, nutrition, social work and assistance with activities of daily living.

Advanced Therapy at D’Youville provides short-term rehabilitation for patients recovering from a variety of surgeries, injuries, or illnesses which would benefit from a stay in a skilled nursing environment. Some frequent conditions include: • joint replacements or other orthopedic surgeries (including amputations) • surgeries for medical conditions • cardiac and pulmonary diagnoses (CHF, COPD) • strokes and other circulatory issues • chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s disease Our facilities include newly renovated semi-private and private rooms at D’Youville Senior Care and state-of-the- art accommodations at the D’Youville Center for Advanced Therapy. Both offer the same services, staff, activities, and dining options. Our patient centered approach ensures a comfortable stay for a rapid return to home.

D’Youville rehab patients and their family members enjoy our beautiful 75-acre country setting with outdoor courtyards, handicapped accessible park and sunny, spacious living areas. The D’Youville Life Enrichment Program provides daily activities including concerts, exercise programs and games. Amenities include in-room dining, beauty salon/barber shop and seasonal celebrations.

D’Youville welcomes two additions to the Campus Leadership team! Mike joins the D’Youville Life & Wellness Community family with extensive experience as a seasoned healthcare executive at a faith-based, non-profit elder care organization. He began his career in health care as a Registered Nurse and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. Most recently, he served as the Operating Manager of the Leonard Florence Center for Living and as the Executive Director of The Chelsea Jewish Community, both located in Chelsea, MA. In these capacities, he was responsible for all operations of a state of the art skilled nursing facility, including sub-acute rehab units, a ventilator unit and an ALS specialty unit. He also led all operations for the community based service agency including Medicare Certified Home Health, Medicare Certified Hospice and Personal Care Services.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Elms College in Chicopee, MA and has his Oasis Certification and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator.

Having joined us in mid-April, Mike has been busy meeting our residents, resident families, staff, and supporters, and learning all about D’Youville. We wish him much success! Michael Ferrick, RN, BSN, LNHA Director of Post Acute Services

The Saab Residence welcomed new Director, Candace Carney, in January. She is a Certified Dementia Practitioner with a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication from Plymouth State University. Candace has managed several assisted living residences in the area and brings a wealth of knowledge to the residents in her care.

Our Fun-Run & Walk-a-thon will be followed by our Carnival complete with great food, amusement park games, face painting, balloon animals, petting zoo, pony rides, dancing, performances, and of course our famous car show.
