Renovation of Arce Park Complete: A project to renovate Arce Park, located at the northwest corner of Alipaz and Del Obispo Streets, was completed this week. The project scope consisted of removal of a dying Sycamore tree and replanting a new Sycamore, construction of an American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramp, repair of damaged curb and gutter, installation of new brick pavers, drip irrigation system, and new plantings that included Yellow Lantana, Salvia leucantha, red geranium, Natal plum and Agave attenuata. The project’s specific design elements (hardscape and landscape) carefully considered the high pedestrian use of this area.

ASAP Volunteer Leadership Transition: The City’s Associated Senior Action Program (ASAP) will now be led by ASAP volunteer Bill Mase. Bill joined ASAP in 2015 and quickly moved into a leadership role, accepting the position of ASAP Special Events Coordinator overseeing support of the Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration, Annual Christmas Parade and Swallows Day events. Bill was voted 2017 ASAP Volunteer of the Year for his leadership and "can-do" attitude. Bill will now serve as the ASAP Volunteer Operations Lieutenant helping to manage 42 volunteers that serve the community in numerous ways in support of Police Services. San Juan Summer Nites Concert Series: Join us on Wednesday, September 19, as we bid farewell to summer with the final concert of the San Juan Summer Nites series. Classic Rock band “The Trip” is set to perform on stage from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Enjoy dancing, local restaurant fare, a beer/wine garden, business expo and free activities for the kids. Annual Creek Clean Up: This year’s annual creek clean up event will be held on Saturday, September 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This year marks the California Coastal Commission’s 22nd annual Coastal Cleanup event and continued efforts to raise public awareness about trash and debris in streams and waterways. Volunteers will be helping to remove trash from and Creek. The City’s Youth Advisory Board members will once again handle registration, which begins at 7:30 a.m. at Descanso Park, located behind City Hall at 32400 Paseo Adelanto. DIY Succulent Pumpkin Workshop: Fall is upon us, and the Master Gardeners will be conducting a craft workshop to teach attendees how to prepare a succulent pumpkin for a table centerpiece or an outdoor display. This one-day workshop will be offered on Monday, October 22, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center, located at 25925 Camino Del Avion. The workshop is open to anyone over the age of 50. There is a nominal materials fee of $10. Be sure to register early! Senior Excursion - Newport Harbor Holiday Boat Parade, Cruise and Dinner: The Newport Harbor Boat Parade will be held on Wednesday, December 19. Sail the calm waters alongside dozens of other boats decorated with thousands of lights and displays. You’ll have the best vantage point for seeing the exquisite waterfront homes decked out for the holidays in what is commonly known as the “Ring of Lights” around Newport Harbor. This San Juan Senior Club excursion includes dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Anaheim before the parade. The tour leaves the San Juan Capistrano Community Center on a luxury bus at 3:00 p.m. and returns at 9:30 p.m. Registration is $108 per person.
