Once upon a time five Pandavas brother's were wondering in a forest to hunt a deer. But the deer in their sight disappeared suddenly. In the min time, they felt tiredness grew thirsty & they were unable to move ahead. They set under a tree & Yudhisthira's sent his eldest brother Sahadeva. To search for water but he didn't come for a long time. He sent his entire brother's one after the other gradually. However, none of them returned for a long time. Therefore, ultimately Yudhisthira's himself set out in search of his bother's following their footprints. After a short walk, he notices a beautiful pool. On its bank, his four brother's were lying either unconsciousness or death. Although viewing the events he was in stream distress & sorrow. Then he bent to drink water from the pool but an unknown voice warned him. Not to drink water from the pool before answering his questions. After listening carefully Yudhisthira's tactfully answered all questions of Yama(the god of justice & death). His four brothers were prostrate on the ground due to their disobedience to the voice of Yama. -
Jagar As Emotion Discourse
Understanding an Indigenous Indian Himalayan Folklore: Jagar as Emotion Discourse Dr. Shachi Negi Assistant Professor, DIT University, Dehradun, India Abstract Modern approach in urban world is more towards outside development and lesser we are concerned to the emotions inside. In the present scenario, jagar, a ritual performed in rural Uttarakhand attempts to awake and release the deep rooted psyche of human beings. The present paper examines how jagar is performed as emotion discourse in indigenous set-up of central Himalayan, India. Jagar is a popular folklore of central Himalayas in India which is co-existed with mainstream Hinduism for ages. Traditionally in its classical form, it is performed as ritual to awaken supernatural powers of God, local deities and dead sprits (ghosts). The word Jagar is originated from ancient Indian Sanskrit language, ‘jaga’ which means to awake. The narrator of jagar is called jagariya who through indigenous musical instruments narrates/ sings ballads of God or dead spirits with allusions to Indian epics: Mahabharat/ Ramayana. In rural Uttarakhand, India, Jagar is an organized ritual to seek divine intervention to the problems or to receive blessings of God. In recent years, jagar has also been diversified as popular music in urban Uttarakhand. The credit of its popularity goes to jagariya as well as folk artist who came forward to exhibit jagar by using various medium of entertainment. In today’s context, Stefan Fiol in his book, Recasting Folk in the Himalayas writes about the significance of jagar as “an important marker of regional belonging and devotional expression for many migrants living far from home”(24). -

Tourist Places in and around Dhanbad Dhanbad the coal capital of India lies at the western part of Eastern Indian Shield, the Dhanbad district is ornamented by several tourist spots, namely Parasnath Hill, Parasnath Temple, Topchanchi, famous Jharia coalfields, to mention a few. Other important places are Bodh Gaya, Maithon Dam, and this town is only at 260 km distance by rail route from Kolkata. Bodh Gaya Lying at 220 km distance from Dhanbad. Bodh Gaya is the place where Gautam Buddha attained unsurpassed, supreme Enlightenment. It is a place which should be visited or seen by a person of devotion and which would cause awareness and apprehension of the nature of impermanence. About 250 years after the Enlightenment, the Buddhist Emperor, Ashoka visited the site of pilgrimage and established the Mahabodhi temple. Parasnath Temple The Parasnath Temple is considered to be one of the most important and sanctified holy places of the Jains. According to Jain tradition, no less than 23 out of 24 Tirthankaras (including Parsvanatha) are believed to have attained salvation here. Baidyanath Temple Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baba dham and Baidyanath dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in Deoghar at a distance of 134 km from Dhanbad. It is a temple complex consisting of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples. Maithon Dam Maithon is 52 km from Dhanbad. This is the biggest reservoir in the Damodar Valley. This dam, designed for flood control, has been built on Barakar river. -

Tell me, O foremost of regenerate ones, I am never satiated with listening to the grand feats of my ancestors.” Vaisampayana said, “After the fall of Karna, O king, Dhritarashtra’s son Suyodhana was plunged deep into an ocean of grief and saw despair on every side. Indulging in incessant lamentations, saying, ‘Alas, oh Karna! Alas, oh Karna!’ he proceeded with great difficulty to his camp, accompanied by the unslaughtered remnant of the kings on his side. Thinking of the slaughter of the Suta’s son, he could not obtain peace of mind, though comforted by those kings with excellent reasons inculcated by the scriptures. Regarding destiny and necessity to be all- powerful, the Kuru king firmly resolved on battle. Having duly made Salya the generalissimo of his forces, that bull among kings, O monarch, proceeded for battle, accompanied by that unslaughtered remnant of his forces. Then, O chief of Bharata’s race, a terrible battle took place between the troops of the Kurus and those of the Pandavas, resembling that between the gods and the Asuras. -
