LANDCROSS or LANCRAss, a smo.U village and parish in the Tonidge valley, 2! miles S.S.E. of Bideford, has only 120 souls and about t>OO acres of land, mostly belonging to the trustees of the late Lord Rolle, who are lords of the manor, and patrons of the rectory, valued in K.B. at£:> 4s. 9Jd.p and in 1831 at £84. The Rev. E. H. Fnr1·ington, B.A. is the incumbent. and has 9A. of glebe and a small residence. The Clmrcl& (Holy Trinity,) is an ancient structure, with a wooden belfry. The celebrated General Monk was bomhere in 1608. The FARMERS are John Abbott, Simon Crang, John Ford, Henry Guard, (miller,) and Wm. Partridge, Watet-town. LANGTREE is a considerable village, 3! miles S.,V. of Gteat Tarring ton, and has in its parish 941 souls, and 4028 acres of land, including &he hamlets of Stowford and Week. The Trustees of the late Lord Rolle owa most of the soil, and are lords of the manors of Langtree and Stowfordp and patrons of the ret:tory, valued in K.B. at £29. ls. 3d., and in 1831 at .£t>23. The Rev. John Guard, M.A., is the incumbent, and has 66A. of glebe, and a good residence. The tithes were commuted in 1838 for .£4:70 per annum. The Church has a tower and five bells, and contains several neat monuments. There was anciently a chapel at Cross hill. The National School, built in 1840, is supported by the rector. Mrs. and Miss Anthony are ladies of the manor, owners of a great part of the soil, and patrons of the redory, valued in K.B. at £14. 16s. 10fd., and in 1831 at £241, and now held by the Rev. J. L. Harding, B.A., who has 97A. of glebe, and an elegant resi dence, in the Grecian style, with a beautiful lawn, &c. The tithes were commuted in 184:1 for £204 per annum.
