Background: The Etobicoke Community Council had before it a communication dated September 18, 2002, from Councillor Rob Ford, Ward 2 – Etobicoke North, requesting, for the reasons outlined in the communication, that the requirement of the Transportation Services Division that a sidewalk be installed on Molson Canada’s property, specifically the Galaxy Boulevard frontage, and payment of a fee, be waived. - 2 - The following persons appeared before the Etobicoke Community Council in connection with this matter: - Amir Remtulla, Manager, Corporate Affairs, Ontario West Region, Molson Canada; and - Mark Hayward, Ross & Anglin Ontario Ltd. -

Toronto, Tourism, and the Fractured Gaze
PLACE MARKETING AND PLACE MAKING: TORONTO, TOURISM, AND THE FRACTURED GAZE by Nadia Franceschetti A thesis submitted to the Department of Cultural Studies In conformity with the requirements for the degree of Masters of Arts Queen’s University Kingston, Ontario, Canada (September, 2011) Copyright ©Nadia Franceschetti, 2011 Abstract This thesis is an empirical and theoretical investigation into the changing trends in place marketing as it relates to urban tourism, particularly in the city of Toronto. It begins by exploring broader discourses to do with capitalism and creativity and their impacts on city space and people’s interactions with it and within it. These perspectives are then situated in the Toronto context, a city that currently embraces the notion of the Creative City, as promulgated by Richard Florida, which encourages the branding of the city for the purpose of stimulated economic growth and in which tourism plays an increasing role. Thirdly, it examines the theoretical implications of the prominent belief that tourism and place marketing are imperative for Toronto’s economic well-being. Official efforts at place marketing and place branding construct what John Urry terms the tourist gaze, and frame the city in particular ways to particular people. Fourthly, this thesis gives an empirical account of how the gaze comes to bear on the physical city space in terms of infrastructure and financing projects in the interest of creating a Tourist City. The penultimate chapter brings to light how the rise of new media has allowed for the greater possibility to puncture the traditionally linear narrative of the city with new voices, thus fracturing the monolithic gaze in some instances. -

I am honoured to be one of your Academic Directors for Model City Hall 2021. I am a senior at Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton. Next year, I will be attending the University of Ottawa to study Conflict Studies and Human Rights in French Immersion. I am very excited to have been chosen to work at the House of Commons to work as a parliamentary page. I am passionate about psychology, helping others, social issues, human rights and politics. I love to learn languages. I am fluent in French and I am learning Spanish. In my spare time I enjoy being outside, walking my dog Mazie, swimming, doing art, writing spoken word poetry and spending time with my friends. I am part of Westdale’s Model UN delegation, poetry club, and Student Council. I am so excited to be a part of Model City Hall 2021. I first attended Model City Hall in 2018 when I was in Grade 9. I loved getting the opportunity to debate municipal political issues. Mel Lastman Square Special Event Guidelines General Facilities Mel Lastman Square has 20,000sq.ft. of open space and is open to host events that accommodate up to 5,000 participants. The stage is an outdoor amphitheatre, which can accommodate over 2,000 spectators. More than 600 audience members can be seated in permanent, raised, concrete bleachers in addition to temporary seating and standing areas. The stage is spherical in shape and measures 34’ wide by 30’ deep and it is elevated 3’3” off the ground. The stage is made of concrete and is partially covered by a sloping roof. Access is available upstage right and upstage left. Mel Lastman Square also has a 6,724sq.ft. Garden Court, a 23sq.ft. shaded Wedding Pavilion and a 7,656sq.ft. Reflecting Pool. The grounds have convenient access to public transit and washrooms which are located on the lower levels of the North York Civic Centre. De regio Utrecht heeft een bevolking Nederlandse landbouw. Landelijk is 65% van van ongeveer 730.000 inwoners (2015), met een het geconsumeerde voedsel afkomstig van verwachte groei naar 830.000 in 2030. De stad vormt Nederlandse boeren, maar er is weinig bekend een belangrijk logistiek knooppunt door de ligging in over voedselstromen. Op basis van interviews met het centrum van Nederland. deskundigen en gegevens van de belangrijkste lokale initiatieven voor voedseldistributie, wordt geschat dat de landbouw in de regio Utrecht maximaal 5% van al het geconsumeerde voedsel in de regio levert. A POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE ON THE CASE OF TORONTO Andrew Sancton SUMMARY Toronto is unlike any other city, as its local boosters will not hesitate to point out. That was the basis, after all, of the “charter movement” that demanded special rights for a mega-city that the movement’s backers insisted was so vital that it even warranted a status similar to that of an entire province. Their efforts culminated in the province’s passage in 2006 of the City of Toronto Act, which appeared on its face to grant the metropolis the power it believed it required and merited. In reality, the Ontario government may have actually set Toronto back, leaving it more at the mercy of provincial power than other smaller municipalities. The few additional taxation powers that were granted by the ostensible Toronto “charter” — the City of Toronto Act — are, in reality, still overseen by the province, which retains the right to limit those revenue tools if it considers it “desirable in the provincial interest to do so.” But while Toronto may have been given just a small number of revenue tools, which it has used only sparingly, and the use of those tools is ultimately decided by Queen’s Park, their very existence has given the province licence to sidestep the city’s calls for more funding. The provincial Liberals have, in the past, insisted that Toronto make use of its own taxes before it demands more provincial funds. Meanwhile, the City of Toronto Act did nothing to curtail the power of the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). -
