This is something emerging from discussions we have been having about our community – and the survey which some of you completed and returned to the village shop. We are grateful for your continuing input. One thing which people felt was needed was “more ways to get together”. This came from one of our young people. We hope to provide a safe place for all generations to be able to meet. A place to be able to offer the skills we all have, as well as to learn Devon Community Together new ones and in doing so meeting neighbours and making friends. Energy Efficiency Initiatives Passing skills on from old to young, and from young to old. But you also don‟t need a child to be able to come! 9 10 11 While we are hosting this hub at St. Peter‟s, this is not „church‟. We 12 13 won‟t be preaching or praying with you… unless of course you want and choose to chat about faith. This hub is purely meant as a 14 15 16 partnership between church and community – and a meeting 17 18 place for everybody. We want to use the community building that is the church for the community. 19 20 So we‟re starting out on this adventure – not knowing quite what it th will look like initially – on Thursday 20 September. Report on Housing Needs Surveys RURAL ALLIANCE North Devon – September 2012 Bratton Fleming East Down Kentisbury Arlington Challacombe Goodleigh Marwood Stoke Rivers Loxhore Shirwell Trentishoe RURAL HOUSING PROJECT Exmoor, North Devon & West Somerset The Rural Housing Project has been running since 2002 and is a partnership between Exmoor National Park Authority, North Devon Council, West Somerset Council, English Rural Housing Association, Falcon Rural Housing, Hastoe Housing Association, North Devon Homes, Devon and Cornwall Housing Association and Magna Housing Association. It has been working hard to address the shortage of affordable housing within a predominantly rural area. The area covered by the project displays an extreme disparity between incomes and house prices, which makes it hard for many to gain secure footing within the housing market. The Rural Housing Project is designed to help promote and deliver affordable rural housing strategically across the project area and helps deliver Exmoor National Park housing policies within the Park. This is being achieved by informing people about affordable rural housing, providing help and advice, carrying out research at parish level to assess the affordable housing need and bringing together the community and various partners to help deliver housing where it is needed. One of the tasks for the project is to work with the Parish Council and the local community to assist them in carrying out a housing needs survey, in order to identify whether there is a need for affordable housing for local people in the parish. Colin Savage, Rural Housing Enabler Introduction The “Rural Alliance” is made up of the North Devon parishes of Arlington, Bratton Fleming, Challacombe, East Down, Goodleigh, Kentisbury & Trentishoe, Loxhore, Marwood, Shirwell and Stoke Rivers.
