Her first dog earned titles in rally obedience, earth dog, agility, barn hunt and nose work. Her second dog, an , added obedience and draft dog to her competition repertoire. Sarah-Jane began her judging career with the Canadian Association of Rally Obedience (CARO) and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) (now World Cynosport) in 2005. When rally obedience was introduced to CKC in 2008, Sarah-Jane was licensed to judge all levels. Judging has taken me to so many fabulous places from Alaska to Texas, from Hawaii to New York, from Canada to Florida and everywhere in between. With each place I have met great people, wonderful dogs and experienced spectacular travels. Handlers often tell me “You make it such a wonderful experience in the ring”, and I respond…”Because I Love Judging” and they say it shows. I love to Judge because I am passionate for the sport and love giving back to the Obedience community, who has given me so much for the past 39+ years. I am married to my wonderful husband Phillip; we have one son, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild due in August of 2019. I just retired in April 2018 after working Full- time as the Administrator for a large private surgical practice located in the Twin Cities area where I had been for the past 31 years. I have three beautiful Golden Retrievers: Brandy age 12, Bella age 9 and Scarlett age 7 months. Chemistry between the dogs and the size must be taken into account. Back to Table of Contents 25 OSTEOPATHY / CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY TREATMENTS Dr. Laura Taylor DVM August 2 – 4th, 2019 9 am – 4 pm Osteopathy is a type of manual therapy that restores normal mobility to all the joints and internal tissues and organs of the body. The end result is optimum posture, balanced symmetry of movement, greater stride length, etc. A dog does not need to have a mobility problem to benefit from an osteopathic treatment. A great moving dog will move even better! The majority of joint restrictions often come from nerve changes from organs…this is why chiropractic can be very temporary. It is very common to have subtle tension in the prostate/ovaries/uterus be a cause of loss of some symmetry in the pelvis thus affecting mobility. 30 minute treatment sessions - Show Special $90.00 For more information / to book an appointment ($50 deposit required) Contact Dr. Laura Taylor [email protected] More information at www.TaylorHolisticVet.ca

SPECIALTY JUDGE: Betty-Anne Stenmark

10282 Quail Creek Rd, Grass Valley, CA 95949-7179

ASSIGNMENT: All Regular, Unofficial and Non-Regular Classes

A lifetime participant in the sport of dogs, Mrs. Stenmark competed in her first dog show in 1967, showing her Saint Bernard in Vancouver, B.C. She went on to become a breeder of Saint Bernards, bred a litter of Salukis but for the last 43 years it’s been Dandie Dinmont Terriers, still breeding today under the King’s Mtn. prefix. Mrs. Stenmark was approved in 1977 to judge Saint Bernards. She now judges all Sporting, all Hounds, all Terriers, 12 Working breeds, both Corgis and Best in Show. In 1980 she chaired the first Del Valle Dog Club of Livermore show and recently retired as show chairman, having chaired 70 consecutive all breed events. In 1990 Mrs. Stenmark co-founded Responsible Dog Breeders of San Mateo County in response to the first animal rights’ inspired anti-breeding laws. RDB/SMC successfully overturned this first restrictive legislation and the group was later granted AKC recognition as Skyline Dog Fanciers, now an all-breed show that accompanies the Del Valle shows to become the Harvest Moon Classic. Mrs. Stenmark is the past President of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club of America, a past board member of the San Mateo County Fair Board and Take the Lead, and a longtime member of the AKC Trial Board. Professionally Mrs. Stenmark was a partner in the firm of her late husband, Roy, Stenmark Metal Specialties, specializing in seismic motion systems. In later years she was the Volunteer Coordinator at Palo Alto Animal Services. In 2011 she was awarded the prestigious Winkie for Annual Achievement, voted by her peers Judge of the Year. She has judged 11 times at Westminster, judging Best in Show in 2018. She previously judged the Hound Group both in 1998 and 2015, and the Terrier Group in 2008. Mrs. Stenmark is retired and lives with her husband, Ben, and four Dandies in Grass Valley, California.

10519 Hidden Lake Ln, Richmond, TX, 77406-8757

ASSIGNMENT: All Regular, Unofficial and Non-Regular Classes I have been involved with the sport of pure-bred dogs since the 70’s. Although my first show dogs were Great Danes, which I brought back from England from my overseas military service, I am best known for my involvement with sighthounds, and more specifically Salukis. I first showed under the kennel name S’Dawn, but after marrying my wife, Dr. Judith A. Newton, we combined our kennels under the name of Solari, named after the first Saluki that we owned together. We have successfully bred and exhibited Salukis since the 1980’s. Our Salukis have excelled in the conformation ring, obedience, lure coursing, and junior showmanship. I have owned and /or bred Afghan Hounds, Salukis, Ibizan Hounds, Greyhounds, Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen, Borzois, and Great Danes, as well as a Golden Retriever, Italian Greyhound, a Toy Fox Terrier, and a Parson Russell Terrier. I have been involved in the sport of lure coursing since the 1970’s, both as a participant, as a judge and lure operator. I served on the first AKC (American Kennel Club) advisory panel for lure coursing when AKC first started lure coursing. I am currently approved by the American Kennel Club to judge both conformation (Hound, Herding and Working Groups, Junior Showmanship, and Best in Show) and lure coursing. I have been honored to judge throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, South Africa, Australia, Korea, Germany, Japan, and China. I have also been honored to judge multiple local as well as national specialties and Top Twenty National events. In my non-canine professional life, I am a Director of Nursing / Registered Nurse and an internationally known canine sculptor, working in both bronze and stone. Approximately 10-20 % of the American Kennel Clubs use my bronze sculptures as perpetual trophies. I am also a published author of a fictional novel.

Back to Table of Contents 79 DEAR EXHIBITORS,

We are all people who share an abiding interest in our dogs and in participating in the world of the Dog Fancy. Some of us are only exhibitors and some only volunteers, but many of us are both.

At the Alberta Kennel Club we are proud of our more than one hundred year record of service to the Fancy. At all times it is our intention to give you the best Dog Show that we possibly can.

We need to speak about respect for one another and while understanding the pressures on both the Exhibitor and the Volunteer; we believe we all can do better. Dog Shows offer us an opportunity to meet and to compete ideally in a supportive environment. Dog Shows need organizers and participants but if we cannot find common ground, then the organizers will leave and participants will have nowhere to compete.

Rude and disrespectful behavior can’t be tolerated on either side.

If we have erred, please let us know. We will listen to concerns that are reasonably and politely expressed and will fix what we can. It is not our intention to upset you.

What we will not tolerate is behaviour that is in contravention of civil behaviour or our expressed requests, such as pick up your dog’s feces, don’t park where not permitted, leave your benching space as clean as you found it, don’t raise your voice in anger etc., etc. You know, all the things we learned from our parents about how to get along in life.

The Alberta Kennel Club will have zero tolerance for rude language or bad behaviour and will invite disruptive people to leave the Show and no refunds will be offered.

Thank you,

The Alberta Kennel Club Show Committee

We look forward to welcoming you to the Delta Calgary South from August 1-4, 2019 while you are in Calgary on behalf of the Alberta Kennel Club to attend the Summer Show at nearby Spruce Meadows. Situated in the heart of South Calgary, within walking distance to shopping and restaurants, we offer complimentary parking and Wi-Fi, and we have recently completed a $16 million renovation.

Our hotel is easily accessible via MacLeod Trail and Deerfoot Trail and complimentary parking is available in two spacious lots. In addition to our three on-site dining facilities including a restaurant, lounge and pub, we have two swimming pools and whirlpools, and two well-equipped fitness centres along with a yoga room.

Our Delta guest rooms with two queen beds have been fully renovated to include a 42” HD TV enhanced by a proprietary Marriott/GuestTek smart system that carries applications like Netflix and Youtube, and several power outlets on the desk along with four USB ports. The rooms also feature a cordless phone, safe, fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, iron & board, free Wi-Fi and bottled water.

A preferred rate of $139 plus taxes is in place for your group in a courtesy block whereby the special rate will apply as long as we have Delta guest room availability at the time of your reservation request. We do encourage you to contact our Reservations department at your earliest convenience. A special pet charge of $20 will apply to your room during your stay (significantly reduced from our standard pet fee of $35 each day).

We are also pleased to extend a 50% discount on breakfast from 6:30am-9:00am at the Atrium Café. In order to receive this discount, please tell your server that you are with the Alberta Kennel Club.

To request a room within the group, kindly email [email protected] by Thursday, July 4, 2019. Please identify yourself as being with the Alberta Kennel Club Summer Show-Exhibitors group in order to qualify for the very special group rate, based on availability. An on-line reservation link will also be provided to the group organizer.

Cancellation policy for a guest room reservation is 48 hours prior to the day of arrival.

Kind regards,

Maria Powell Senior Sales Manager Delta Calgary South
